This super limited set of CD-rs (each in a run of 100) document the recordings that led up the The Alps' beautiful record III released on Type last year. The tracks on A Path Through the Sun and A Path Through the Moon sift through layers of gorgeous drone, stream of conscious field recordings and seared folk. Though these are the bits that didn't make up the eventual album, that's no slight on the quality, both discs are full of The Alps keen sense of space and heavy hand on [...]
I am highly anticipating their upcoming album and was uncertain what direction they would take it in. This track that leaked via LA Friendly is exactly what I was hoping for. It is upbeat with funky lyrics that make me dance around my bedroom. Featuring Jahmal from the Carps and the vocals are flawless. I can't wait to see these two tear it up at Coachella in April. -M (short post I know, so much to do, so little time) Download audio file (MSTRKRFT - Breakaway (feat. Fritz Helder and the Phantoms at first make me think the last night's party dude is fronting a resurrection of The Ones (remember that song , btw? Not sure why I do). The truth might actually not be far off from that. No doubt they are fabulous and all that. Not sure how they hooked up with MSTRKRFT's Al P but i kinda dig the output on Making a Scene . The edit flattens out the original (in a good way) and also kinda creeps it out (again, in a good way). Oddly for me, it counjours [...]

Who is yr favourite MSTRKRFT dude? JFK or Al-P ? JFK has the 'stache and the DFA '79 street cred in spades, but Al-P still does it for me what with his Girls Are Short and Horny Emotion work. This is another winner. Fritz Helder & The Phantoms - Making A Scene (Al-P Remix) MYSPACE

I want to begin this article by thanking the myriad of bloggers who have been tirelessly uncovering the lost psych and prog bands from yesteryear. I've spent countless hours digging through the tunes and bios of unsung musicians that plyed their wares during the heyday of the genre in the late 1960s to mid-1970s. Over the past few years these bloggers have introduced me to literally hundreds of artists from around the globe who, in the face of giants like Pink Floyd, Genesis, Hendrix, et al, have all but disappeared into the ether. The quality of the music runs [...]

I hate airports. I wasted 7 hours in an airport tonight and I am still not on the snowy alps. I wish there was fast and efficient travel without airports.
I am always excited at the prospect of more flights getting us out. Even if they are just taking is to Dubai. There's room for expansion. But, Wataniya Airways just unveiled this banal logo. I mean, you have a whole airline, get a little creative and stray out the lines. The typeface is nice but it's been done and the logo is just boring and vapid. It looks like they played around with one of the Star Alliance triangles or this charter airline from Sarajevo: [...]

Photography by Tsuru I'm very excited to share our latest Presents... feature, Podcasts!!! Very creatively, I might add, called Tsurucasts, because I'm the ultimate narcissist, well, except that Tsuru's not my name, hmm... Anyway, so here's how it all went down. First, graphic artists & member captgeech, the designer of our amazing Society Shirts , suggested, when talking about "what's next for tsururadio", that we do them. Due to my unbelievable ignorance to the podcast phenomenon, I laughed it off... Who the hell would want to [...]

The Alps are a San Fran collective consisting of members of Tussle, Tarentel & Arp . They've got some exquisite sounds, their new LP 'III' is chock full of them. Get it here . The Alps- A Manha Na Praia (Z Share) ( YSI ) Speaking of Tussle , we had the Prins Thomas remix of 'Night of the Hunter' on these pages a few weeks ago. Time to check the original, it's pretty special. New record 'Cream Cuts' is out [...]
