photo by Lauren Slusher The Union Square Ballroom was packed tight with a reverent and enraptured audience for The Antlers ' set during KEXP's broadcast at CMJ. The Brooklyn band mesmerized listeners with a soulful and atmospheric mix of songs from their 2012 EP, Undersea , and their 2011 album, Burst Apart . Peter Silberman's project began as self-recorded bedroom chamber pop, and the Brooklyn band translates that spirit with a live show that is introspective without being exclusive or inhibited. The ever-expanding swirl of keyboards and heavily reverb-ed guitar stays grounded by Silberman's [...]
Jody Kivort I'm not diversifying into the adult entertainment industry, despite what some ads that occasionally get served here might imply, but am instead talking about New York's Escort . Sometimes a lean five-piece band, sometimes a proper orchestra numbering as many as 17 - but always fronted by diva Adeline Michele - Escort have been busting out old-school yet thoroughly contemporary dancefloor disco electro-soul since 2006 but only just released their full-length debut Escort earlier this year and are now taking their legendarily slick and irresistibly fun live show on [...]
The Antlers ' "Drift Dive" , the first song on their acclaimed EP Undersea , now has an atmospheric, but fitting music video. The song traverses the water theme well and fits the mood to the dark, mystical, and downright gorgeous music. You know, gorgeous in that weird way. Check this ethereal video out and submerge yourself. And if you haven't, listen to Undersea . That EP is just ungodly amounts of win. Connect with The Antlers : [...]
As the Brooklyn based band The Antlers noted itself too, today was quite a strange day to release their new ‘underwater’-video for Drift Dive . The band stated the following on Facebook: “Considering all that's just happened in NYC, today is a strange day to debut our new video, but it feels oddly appropriate too. James Case-Leal created this beautiful piece to accompany 'Drift Dive.' We hope it provides you with some comfort in the face of all this devastation. We love you, New York.”. The band’s new video is, as they noticed themselves, oddly appropriate [...]
Like The Antlers with Chris Talbot behind the kit, Sheffield's Blessa take something many a band's been touting since the mid-'90s and polish it 'til it resembles something that's both progressive and compellingly propulsive on début demo, Open Fields. Which is, in turn, something of a burnished, and until today to me undiscovered gem in itself. Akin to Bristol's Empty Pools in that flatline throwback style, it sees the five-piece cross-pollinate the crystalline, chorus-laden guitars of The Cure's Faith with a more leaden rhythm section before the track fully blooms with a jangly glisten [...]
The Antlers. Brooklyn. Undersea. Hurricane Sandy. Drift Dive. Slowly sinking into water. The city, or the music video? There’s something strangely ironic about The Antlers releasing the music video for “ Drift Dive ” on Monday afternoon while Hurricane Sandy bore into The City That Never Sleeps. Perhaps they should have waited a few more days so they could show the subways slowly filling up with water under a deserted Times Square, or maybe they were just egging Sandy on. Either way, you can sink into the gorgeousness of this song properly with the imagery below. If you [...]

The Antlers – “Drift Dive” Video
The Antlers released this sunny video for their Undersea track "Drift Dive" in the midst of Hurricane Sandy's impartial ravaging of New York - a time when a lot of the band's hometown fans, if they still had power, probably relished the video's calming, celestial imagery and were vaguely disturbed by its underwater moments. If you're watching it high and dry, you'll likely enjoy it - it looks like a music visualizer engineered collectively by Carl Sagan and David Attenborough . Check it out. Read more articles [...]

[Video] The Antlers: "Drift Dive"
TOP 20 FREE PARTIES OF CMJ 2012
There are some people who believe CMJ is like any other Friday night in NYC, but they're simply wrong. CMJ is night after night of amazing music and free parties - so many that choosing just one feels wrong. We here at The Wild Honey Pie love CMJ so much (as witnessed by our 3 parties) that we just couldn't help but compile a list of all our favorite events of the week. The best part, they're all free! We'll see you around this week, that is, if we can choose where we'll be. [...]
