![[News] Y Not Festival Lineup](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4941615_lg.jpg)
You know what I enjoy even more than the UK's biggest festivals? The smaller ones. Last year I ventured back into my home county of Derbyshire to hit up Y Not festival , a homegrown, grass roots built from the ground up festival. Boy did I have a good time. The likes of The Wombats, We Are Scientists, Pulled Apart By Horses, Roots Manuva, Little Comets and a host more across numerous stages graced the fields. This year promises to be even bigger, and with the winning the best small festival award last year, they're going to [...]

You may think it's mental showing up a full 2 days before the madness known as SXSW officially begins on a Tuesday, but it was part of my concerted effort to ease myself gently into the maelstrom. That's the benefit of having been through the craziness at least once before; not only do you not get lost every 5 minutes in Austin, you also have the foresight to take it easy as you can. I arrived in Austin Sunday afternoon after a very bumpy, turbulence-filled plane ride from California [...]

One of the greatest things about SXSW is the ability to see one of a kind performances. When I heard that Tim Wheeler was playing a solo acoustic show on Monday night, I chalked that down as one of those performances. Every year, the British take over the Latitude 30 every year and bring forth a slate of new and exciting bands for the public to hear. Sometimes, though, they also snag a few seasoned performers to help boost attendance. Monday night was the Northern Irish night at the Latitude 30 and with Ash in town for SXSW, it seemed [...]
I just bought tickets for seven different shows between March 20th and June 16th. I should really start buying earplugs by the gross. Ash Girl From Mars (Live in Tokyo) Girl From Mars (Live from the Numbskull EP) Girl From Mars (Live from the Twilight Of The Innocents Bonus Disc) I really need to update my sources of music news. Not only was I not aware that Ash recently released an amazing 3LP edition of their excellent A-Z Singles series (it [...]

Even though I'm a 16 year veteran of attending SXSW, I'm reluctant to do much in-depth research for fear that my head will cave in from information overload. The festival is certainly no longer limited to the latest buzz bands. I admit I'm looking forward to seeing bands that are festival veterans and maybe even a rock n' roll legend or two. I also willingly break the unofficial rule for Austinities by checking out local band showcases. I know I can see them throughout the year, but why is it so wrong to support them during SXSW? I've selected five Austin bands and five non-Austin acts worth checking out [...]

The other night I headed over to the Czar Bar here in Kansas City with a few friends to catch a town favorite, She's a Keeper . I had heard the names of the openers before, but couldn't remember hearing any of their music. I was late arriving and only caught the last of Attic Wolves , a KC local that you'll soon be hearing more about from me - but I got to catch the entire Jack and the Bear set, and it was fantastic. I really think they stole the show. This crew can [...]

It's Thursday and that can only mean one thing: we're serving up your music video orders with the speed and sass of a waitress at a greasy spoon diner. Today's episode of At Your Request marks an historic moment in AYR history. For the first time ever, the song pulled from our famous Heart Of Pop was from a pop star. So enjoy today's breakdown of the vid to Kelly Sweet 's emotional electro-pop smash "Ashes Of My Paradise" — as requested by Ms. Kelly Sweet herself! Got a video from [...]

Truly a fantastic song/video. Although she is getting heavily compared to La Roux & Elle Goulding, I think she sounds a lot similar to Margaret Berger. Hopefully 2013 will bring a lot more of Kelly Sweet and Betty Who . Filed under: Yankee Panky Tagged: ashes of my paradise , betty who , kelly sweet , la roux , new

Any band with the word dog in it is bound to come under Ralph's scrutiny at some point and Russian Gun Dogs are no exception. Hailing from Coventry, Russian Gun Dogs have created a big buzz around them, with many tipping them for big things. Having secured support slots with bands like Pigeon Detectives , [...]

I saw a lot of great shows in 2012, from all the great shows in NYC during CMJ, from my trip to Bonnaroo, and my duel visits to Chicago for Lollapalooza/Pitchfork. I saw many bands both big in small in a wide variety of venues, and made many good memories along the way. When it came down to it, these shows were my absolute favorite concert moments of the year: 1. Radiohead @ Bonnaroo (June 8, 2012) 2. My Morning Jacket @ The Capitol Theatre (December [...]
