Our Words Of Old A few years back we wrote a novel (ok, like almost a decade now!) It was a stream-of-consciousness deal very much inspired by Kerouac. (And yes I wrote it over the course of a month, highly...

I'm a few months late on this Author ( Jack Sparrow , Ruckspin ) live session for Marry Anne Hobbs' XFM show , but I made up for that by listening to it five times yesterday. It's essentially their latest album with a few other original tidbits, I'm bummed I didn't get this release in my " Best of 2011 " list. Author (Live): After Time (feat. Quark) Roman Sunshine (feat. Quark) Dashiki HYC Turn VIP Sun Mothership Fix Roots Vibration [...]
Guest post by Bob Baker of TheBuzzFactor . Apple caused a stir some weeks ago when it launched iBooks Author, a new free app that indie authors and book publishers can use to create multimedia ebooks for the iPad. Another great thing about this development is that Apple is giving content creators a way to take the titles they produce with the new app and sell them (or give them away) in the iBooks Store. What does this have to do with you and your music? [...]
Stewart O'Nan has become a favorite author in the Muruch household. I (Vic) first fell for his writing in 1994 when his stark and mesmerizing debut novel, Snow Angels, was released, and Brendan loves O'Nan's 2007 novel Last Night at the Lobster enough to re-read it every winter. We both recently read (and loved) O'Nan's [...]

Combined Jack Sparrow and Ruckspin create the standout UK Bass and Dubstep outfit know to their friends, fans, family, aquintances and the general population as Author. Their self titled album was released earlier this year and is maybe best described as a fusion of jazz horns, strings, piano solos, deep bass, and dark yet ambient dubstep. Imagine Digital Mystikz (DMZ) making nasty love to Cinematic Orchestra , and the subsequent offspring being fed a strict diet of non wobbly dubstep, roots, and jazz fusion. The mix below is a live [...]

★★★★☆ The offshoots of intelligent drum &'n' bass and jungle -jazz from the mid/late '90s, stapled by Alex Reece's "Pulp Fiction," Doc Scott's "Far Away" and Foul Play's "Total Control" get remoulded for the dubstep set. One particular weapon is key: luxurious horns. They may live a high life, waking up by lighting a huge Cuban, but it's one earned from casually totting up fatalities. Author could be looking out over the city, the Leeds UK cartel counting their money from a plush hotel room balcony, or making Grand Theft Auto come alive, riding around shadily [...]

You may remember San Diego based director / photographer Charles Bergquist from our post a while back on his projections collection . We're all big fans of his work and through Ghostly and Tycho we have worked with him a lot over the past year. I am currently working with him on the new Tycho live visuals set and realized he would make a great contributor to the blog. Charles will mostly be doing video and photographic posts with a focus on process / equipment. So everybody give Charles a warm welcome, his first post [...]

If you are a lover of Richard Prince's work, time is running out to see an exhibit of rarely seen as well as works that have never been exhibited before. His series "TV [...]
Last week DJ Shadow released the "stems" for his collaboration with Yuki from Little Dragon. The various elements of the track were made available to all and sundry to remix, twiddle and butcher at their leisure. And wouldn't you know it someone from the Wes Cun'ry called Authors got his paws on them and made this cracking little refix of Scale It Back.

Photos by G. Nile Rodgers October 20, 2011 was a night I've been looking forward to for a very long time. It was the night Nile Rodgers stopped by Barnes and Noble in Union Square in Manhattan to discuss and sign copies of his autobiography "Le Freak - An Upside Down Story of Family, Disco and Destiny." It's pretty safe to say that anyone who has ever heard pop music likes at least one song he's written or produced. His list of accomplishments is [...]

Author is the brainchild of Jack Sparrow and Ruckspin , both based out of Leeds. If there is anyone wanting to get into an discussion about the future of dubstep, all I can really say on the matter is that I really hope it sounds like this. Still keeping deep roots bass line, currently making my chest vibrate, that should please all the original dubsteppers. Author sounds as though they are bringing a trunk full of jazzy brass instruments, a la Cinematic Orchestra and a bucket or [...]

As I'm sure you're aware, Dubstep has transformed quite a bit over the past couple of years. I don't really want to get into that discussion, but I do want to show some love to a couple of the artists who are still producing the kind of dub that's acceptable outside of the US; Author, a duo by way of Jack Sparrow and Ruckspin . The alias recently put out a two track EP on the UK based Tectonic Records and I recommend it to anyone who likes Dubstep, but isn't into having their [...]
Following their previous collaboration on Get Darker's This is Dubstep 2011 , Leeds based producers Jack Sparrow and Ruckspin recently came together to form Author, a project focused on experimenting with dubstep, collaborating with live musicians and drawing on a wide range of eclectic influences, such as Kruder and Dorfmeister's infamous K&D Sessions and Cinematic Orchestra. The impatient among us - aka me - won't have to wait long for some substantial output because their self-titled debut is set to drop next month on Pinch's Tectonic imprint and judging by the current samples I've heard, it should [...]
