Click image to download full album Sounds like: Jeff Tweedy, Uncle Tupelo, My Morning Jacket "Wilco - Art of Almost" What's so good? A disclaimer: I am, and have long been, a pretty raging Wilco fan. Not so raging as, say, the people I met at the front of the line at one of their shows (at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, June 2009), some [...]

And now three reasons to pull that damn burrito out of your pants and hop on over to Lincoln Hall tonight... 1. By day, John Stirratt and Patrick Sansone are members of Chicago's very own, very beloved and very awesome Wilco, but by night they're...Well, actually, they're The Autumn Defense regardless of the sun's position. Former Loud Loop writer and all around good person Jason Shough had plenty of nice things to say about the band's latest record, Once Around , back in November . And it's [...]

The final day of Solid Sound served as a showcase for Wilco members' side and solo project. The crowd arrived early to line up for drummer Glenn Kotche's solo set in the Hunter theater. A brief opening set from Darin Gray (whom Kotche plays with in On Fillmore ) on prepared bass guitar provided a rude awakening for the tightly packed, standing room only crowd. Gray pushed the limits of tolerance for mid-day discord, unleashing a tense set of noisy, high volume experiments that saw him attacking his modified bass with finger cymbals among other [...]

Another day walking South Congress in the sun... Bahamas at the San Jose, a very well-named guitar and drum duo, sounded like the islands: laid back, quirky, carefree. Before that some thumping electro-pop from Living Days , somewhat at odds with the beer & taco vibe at Guero's. Kind of enjoyed the improv mood that sprang up at Music By the Slice after they were forced acoustic, so returned there in time to check out Still Corners , who I don't think were ever very loud to begin with. The Autumn Defense [...]

Jonathan Wilson + Jackson Browne Before John Stirratt and Pat Sansone joined Wilco, they had their own little band called Autumn Defense. The guys performed for a packed house at The Troubadour and played some of their 60s-styled tunes from their latest "Once Around." We were treated to an evening of music from musicians that clearly love what they are doing and have mutual respect for one another. The energy that exuded from the band took hold of the crowd and there were lots of smiling faces (and a few couples making out). Opener [...]

Watch Jeff Tweedy Cover John Lennon - "God" Paul McCartney wasn't the only artist last week to pay tribute to John Lennon in recognition of the anniversary of the ex-Beatle's tragic death: Jeff Tweedy joined Wilco bandmates John Stirratt and Pat Sansone's band the Autumn Defense in Charlottesville, Virginia — 30 years to the day after Lennon was murdered — for a brilliant rendition of iconic Plastic Ono Band song "God." The video quality isn't great, but you can hear Tweedy absolutely nail the original vocal (no easy feat) above.

On the final night of their tour, The Autumn Defense held strong at Chicago's Lincoln Hall. Curating a wonderful atmosphere at a very intimate show, John and Pat strolled through a playlist that felt like a couple of pals thumbing through old LPs, sharing songs that felt like lost classics, [...]

Filed under: News , Holy Hell Wilco have already inspired a Toronto sandwich shop with no connection to the band, and teamed up with with Chicago's Intelligentsia Coffee for a mug . Now they've turned to their neighborhood roaster -- which provided coffee at the band's Solid Sound Festival this past summer -- for Wilco-approved beans. The energizing product is now available from the band's online store . The "Wilco Selects" coffee brand was personally tasted by the band's John Stirratt and [...]

I am about to embark on a road trip which will take me to Madison, WI . Madison is fantastic in its own right, but it just so happens that the lovely city between two lakes will be playing host to Dawes on Friday and Josh Ritter on Saturday . Considering my near obsession (fine complete and total obsession) for all things Dawes it's not surprising I'm heading up north, but to have both Dawes and Ritter [...]
