John Stirrat and Pat Sansone from Wilco. A nice appearance by Nels Cline on "We Would Never Die". Why didn't I know about this album in 2007??? FROM Allmusic.com: It's easy to tag the Autumn Defense as a band striving to re-create the sun-splashed sound of the classic California folk-rock and chamber pop albums of the '60s and early '70s, but while their musical influences are clear, the truth is that Patrick Sansone and John Stirratt have delivered an album every bit as satisfying and beautiful as the [...]

Last week, I presented my picks for the best albums of the year thus far . Here are some of the songs. I'll probably finding myself posting these all again at the end of the year. They're that good. Not a lot of overlap with the albums -- in picking favorite songs, I find myself drawn to tracks that stand-out from a record vs. trying to pick a winner out of a collection of great songs. So you can imagine how good the Spoon song below is if Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is my current AOTY. [...]

It seems that arrows have played a major part in my life this past week. Don't worry, my flock, I haven't impaled myself or shot anyone yet, but I have had few runins with the noun called arrow. There was an arrow in the mind-melting season finally of Lost last wednesday. It's not the most personal interaction with an arrow, but it's still there. My good friend Max found out recently that he has good arches (As I right the word "arches" I'm reminded of archery, which also involves arrows. Coincidence? Not while I'm still breathing.), which in turn causes [...]

This piece of info you won't get anywhere else! - which only proves how right you are in stopping by Indie Laundry every once in a while. In my eternal search for pleasing our readers - and for some other reasons as well :-) - I am currently staying in the great city of Toronto, Canada. This place is blessed with a range of top quality venues and yesterday I went to one of them to check out Autumn Defence (the side project of John Stirrat and Pat Sansone of Wilco ). I actually didn't know any [...]

With Wilco's new album fast approaching, The Autumn Defense are finishing up a mini-tour in support of their self-titled third album, and for me the show surpassed all expectations I had. The Autumn Defense has a very pleasant "mellow gold" 70's soft rock vibe that is very easy to listen to but leads one to wonder how it will translate on stage. From the first song they played (new single "Canyon Arrow") to the last song on their set, they were completely enchanting. It helps when you have a band full of extremely talented [...]

By now virtually everyone should know that the new Wilco album Sky Blue Sky is slated for a May 15th release date on Nonesuch Records with the following tracklist: 1. Either Way 2. You Are My Face 3. Impossible Germany 4. Sky Blue Sky 5. Side with the Seeds 6. Shake it Off 7. Please Be Patient With Me 8. Hate it Here 9. Leave Me (Like You Found Me) 10. Walken 11. What Light 12. On and On and On [...]

The Autumn Defense has probably been best known to this point as the side project of some Wilco members. John Stirrat [/tag] is the frontman of the band and has also been a core member of the Wilco team since the band began, as a matter of fact, Stirrat was also a part of Uncle Tupelo. John, with the help of Pat Sansone began The Autumn Defense in 2000 on his own label, which is run by himself and sister Laurie, Broadmoor Records. The new album from The Autumn Defense , which is a self [...]
Note: This is the first of hopefully many quickie album reviews from Matt Hinrichs, a former co-worker of mine at The Arizona Republic and the proprietor of the great scrubbles.net . Matt is the man responsible for designing the excellent banner at Circa 45 , and he's got distinguished taste in music/arts, so I'm happy to have him add a more editorial-type tone to the site. The Autumn Defense self-titled (Broadmoor Records) The Autumn Defense serves as a mellow side [...]

If you have internet access and are a music fan you have probably already heard that the new Wilco album will be titled "Sky Blue Sky". The announcement from Jeff last week was confirmed and a couple news sites made it more official. Its the first album for the band since 2004 and I know I and many others are eagerly awaiting the new disc. Its due out in the UK on May 14 and in the US the following day. The rumors are flying as to whether or not any of the [...]

I heaped praise on The Autumn Defense 2003 album Circles back in March of last year and have since wondered if/when they would record a proper follow-up. Well they have and it is being released this month by Broadmoor Records . Still mining the '70s kinks-esque, singer-songwriter landscape they so eloquently articulated on Circles , John Stirratt and Pat Sansone again prove this is no mere Wilco side-project, but a viable entity of its own. [...]

New Releases Tuesday isn't back up to full speed until next week, but smooth retro pop-lovin local boys The Autumn Defense are sneaking one under the radar this week with their latest release, a self-titled affair on Broadmoor Records . Expect more 70's AM rock goodness ala CSN, Steely Dan and The Beach Boys. Download: Autumn Defense - "Canyon Arrow"

The Autumn Defense's claim to fame is that the band features Jon Stirratt of Wilco. But the band sounds nothing like what you might expect from a Wilco alumn. This is blue eyed soul meets british invasion stuff. This is not tough music. This would lose in a knife fight with Mide Ure. This sophomore release from The Autumn Defense comes out in January of 2007 and can now be pre-ordered at the Broadmoor Records website here . By and large this record is a mix [...]
