Last month, there was activity on The Avalanches myspace page that suggested that the near-nine year wait for a follow-up to Since I Left You was at an end. While the message " putting the finishing touches on album 2 !!!!!!!!! " was promising, I'm not holding my breath. Instead, I delved into the archive and found this 20 minute mix from Robbie Chater and Dexta Fabay of the band from a 2001 BBC Radio One broadcast from Ibiza. Taking in some probably rare and definitely unique Carribbean rhythms including a celebratory cricket [...]

Kalenderen siger søndag, hvilket betyder tømmermænd /dovenskab/ afslapning for mange mennesker. Walking On A [...]

How exciting: everyone's favourite totally-misleadingly-named-unt il-now blog is welcoming a new member to the band. I do mean Disco Delicious, in case that was ambiguous. Expect a new level of professionalism and a steep decline in reader disappointment. In the meantime, I've once again had an Avalanches fanboi relapse, so prepare for some classic excellence. Actually, I'll post a couple of remixed Avs tunes, because they're both killer. The Cornelius mix of Since I Left You is pretty much what you might expect if you're familiar with their stuff. A bouquet of pretty bright [...]

i wasn't too impressed with cut copy 's live set last year at good vibrations, so i was pretty determined not to enjoy their new album in ghost colours released this year on modular records . however, since the mighty avalanches are still taking their time putting the final touches to their long awaited follow-up to since i left you (they're crazy in the coconut!), i decided, grudgingly, to give label mates cut copy a try, and boy was i glad i did. a guilt-free journey into the depths of 80s dance, [...]

From 2000, a live set by Australia's the Avalanches for Radio 1's Breezeblock. The Avalanches have featured on this blog before . The sampladelic sextet have been together more than ten years but produced only one album. The set list is: The Beach Boys - Cool Cool Water Capitol Arthur Lyman - China Clipper Van Dyke Parks - Sweet Trinidad Warner Bros [...]
This stuff writes itself folks. Ever since I got wind of The Avalanches getting close to finishing their second album- I have been listening to those Aussie geniuses non stop. But yesterday I shuffled across another Modular artist, one of the best chill songs EVER- "24k" by The Whitest Boy Alive. It's actually a cover [...]

Tracks from a couple more singles from the charity shop rummage - mega star David Bowie and Australian cut and paste artists the Avalanches. David Bowie needs no introduction (and I don't know enough about him to try). From 70s glam rock to his D'n'B experiments in the late 90s, he has always been willing to explore new avenues. But with ever-decreasing returns since the 80s. The featured track is from his 1993 single "Black Tie White Noise" and is pretty forgettable. Jack Dangers (aka Meat Beat Manifesto) attempts to spice [...]

woot woot for stock photos Well... its on the horizon (hopefully). I know, I got just as hard (and probably wet too) when I first read the headlines today. But we still have to keep our fingers crossed, as first reported by NME , the Aussie turntablists' sophomore offering is on its way. As written on their myspace page : "putting the finishing touches on album 2 !!!!!!!!!" And exactly how awesome is that? Lots. Lots awesome.

His hair is properly groomed and coifed to 50s perfection. The Guelph-based singer-songwriter has honed his skills for the Magic—a spunky indie-pop group. "Mr Hollywood" emanates waves of orchestral, feel-good melody. Expect huge things from the Magic as they recently concluded a stint opening for Islands... 2. It's been a little over eight years since their brilliant debut album ( Since I Left You ) saw the light of day. In today's MySpace update, the Aussie electro act exclaims that their sophomore effort is just around the corner and that they are working out the 'finishing touches' in anticipation for an autumn release! Follow the band's progress here. MP3: The Avalanches - Since...
According to Pedestrian.tv , The Avalanches are putting the finishing touches on their long awaited follow-up to 2001's Since I Left You , an album that contained approximately 3500 samples, most impressive of which was the first ever legally licensed Madonna sample. Largely the reason Modular Records is on the map today, The Avalanches made one of the best dance albums of this decade and the anticipation for the sophomore LP is of magnum proportions. The Melbourne, Australia-based electronic collective released a statement in early 2007 about the new album - [...]

During my daily peruse of the ever reliable NME.com (I just read it for Tabloid Hell really), I came across an article claiming that The Avalanches are nearly finished their second LP. Wanting a substantial source I checked out The Av's myspace page and it looks like NME was right (for once). If you check out their current status it says "putting the finishing touches on album 2 !!!!!!!!!", but there doesn't seem to be any indication as to when it will be released. Rest assured the Panic Manual will keep you posted as events [...]

It took a while for the Midnight Juggernauts' latest album Dystopia to really set in for me, but parts of it have since grown on me and I just can't stop listening to tracks like "Into the Galaxy" and "End of An Era." The Midnight Juggernauts track that really hit me over the head was "Shadows", mostly because of the dance-heavy rhythm and those colorful psychedelic synths. Another thing I thoroughly enjoy about the track is that bass that just thumps incredibly hard, similar to that of someone who's been raging on X for hours on end . [...]

I spent the last four days at my old home in Avon, Connecticut . Now that I live in New York City, I've come to enjoy visiting there for the same reason I despised living there: having nothing to do. Waking up each morning, I could sleep in, enjoy a cup of coffee, and turn my brain off while watching a movie without worrying that there was something else I should be doing. Here are some notes from a weekend of doing nothing. -Is there anything more miserable than a graduation ceremony? [...]

What are The Avalanches* up to these days? Other than a compilation and the occasional remix, mum has been the word on a follow-up to 2001's groundbreaking 'Since I Left You'. I decided to check out their website yesterday, there was little in terms of news but I did come across a tasty clip that I had to share. Have you ever wondered where the 3500 samples they used came from? Well I don't, but I can at least share a few they used for the albums title track. I've posted the album version first, [...]

i dont know where you live, but down here summer sure as hell seems to have sprung. that means the hyundai's windows are coming down with even greater frequency even when its 90 plus degrees, but even sometimes i puss out and put that air on. i cant deal with africa hot. in any event, here is round one of two of my top 20 summer records for the '08. the avalanches. since i left you i dont know much about dj records, but i [...]

Nah... but seriously, I feel embarassed for having never heard of these guys until Kid Color used a Wham! vs Digitalism mashup on his Carded & DisCarded mixtape. But I've living it up now, as The Avalanches are uber talented, and I've had their album, Since I Left You , on repeat since I got it. 3500 different samples used to make up the album, are you kidding me? The Avalanches - Frontier Psychiatrist Incredible turntablism is [...]

The Avalanches are a gang of DJs out of Melbourne, Australia. They made a big splash back in 2000 with their debut album Since I Left You , which was assembled from approximately 3,500 samples from old records, films, and TV shows. It's a nearly perfect party album that is impressive front to back, while the track "Frontier Psychiatrist" was released as a single and has become their most well-known song to date. The Avalanches took home all kinds of Australian music awards for the album, and it was included in the book 1001 Albums You Must [...]

The folks over at Internet Jogging (the j is soft) had a great idea - remix Sony's excellent new "Foam City" commercial that debuts next week with a song that's much less lame. Here are our entries: Cut Copy - Visions (from In Ghost Colours , the best album of 2K8) The Avalanches - Diners Only (from Since [...]
