I can't believe I've forgotten to post about these guys. Granted, their one and only album came out before this site even started, but that doesn't mean their music is outdated. Oh ho ho, far from it. Anyhoo, I figure it's time to bam things up a notch by presenting you with The Avalanches, an Australian hip-hop/electronic group. Their sole debut album, Since I Left You is a literal cacophony of old records, classic radio shows, and movie quotes, all jammed up with a dash of deck scratching to tie it all together. [...]
photo by Sara Devine It's been a while since I did any posts about live gigs. I'm not sure why because so far this year I've been to piles of shows. Friday was a scorcher in more ways than one. The one day Irish summer was here as was the SquareD showcase in Whelan's. First [...]

New dubstep sounds coming from the veteran DnB producer Photek . His recent Avalanche EP provides rugged bass beatings through and through. Future sounds without the chainsaw breu step. Check it. Photek - Avalanche ( buy )
Avalanche Ammo has been described as "a one-man eurphoric racket factory." Ant Boland is the man behind the moniker and he hails from the wilds of Kildare. His Animals EP is all tightly wound riffs and arrangements - available for free download from his bandcamp . He plays his first ever gig tonight in support of Alarmist along side We Are Losers in Whelan's, Dublin - tickets are €5, doors at 8pm. To mark the occasion AA sent in this mix for State, and it's pretty bonkers ... in the best [...]
Another bank holiday weekend and another marathon of live music in the Capital. Forbidden Fruit kicks off the festival season in style this weekend while the pick of Friday nights entertainment has to be Alarmist // We Are Losers // Avalanche Ammo in Whelan's. Avalanche Ammo aka Anthony Boland, takes to the stage for the [...]
On 20032s Avalanche , Matthew Good proved that he was a much better musician than the music he had been making. Avalanche was a hulking, thought-provoking, and unapologetically candid record, giving Good enough room to play with new ideas without any limits or boundaries, self-imposed or otherwise. The three albums he released since then never felt like the proper follow-up to Avalanche , and for a time it seemed like Good had permanently settled on the tired trope of the acoustic singer-songwriter. Lights Of Endangered Species is that [...]

Since I Left You , tan [...]

So apparently the Rapture has been scheduled for May 21 . This is good to know as it gives me a chance to throw together a quick playlist for the ascension. I figure six songs should about do it. Can we really know? And it begs the question, did they pay for a whole year of service for that domain name? [...]

"Vivid Live is a festival of music and art held annually at The Sydney Opera House. In 2011 it will run from May 27th to June 5th and will be curated by Modular's Steve Pavlovic". The exciting prospect of The Cure performing way down in the Southern Hemisphere within one of Australia`s most iconic buildings is pure brilliance. Sure, Robert Smith has taken the band on numerous world tours throughout the last three decades, but there`s something quite special surrounding the `Vivid Live` Festival. Hosted at the splendid Sydney Opera House on 31st May [...]

Stone Sour brought their Avalanche Tour to The McElroy in Waterloo last week. The tour consists of Art of Dying, HaleStorm, Skillet, Theory of a Deadman, and Stone Sour. This was a great lineup. All the bands were heavy, but not too heavy...just what I like. I got there after Art of Dying was into their set. I liked them. I'll be sure to catch their full set next time them come through my way. This was my second time seeing HaleStorm. The last time, I got there just as they played the last song of [...]

Canadian rockers The Art Of Dying are ripping it up on the Avalanche Tour this spring. The band recently released their new album Vices and Virtues . On Sunday, they stopped by Uncasville, Connecticut. Our photographer Phil DeSimone (of FromThePhotoPit.com ) was at the Mohegan Sun Arena and took some photos of the band. Check them out inside.
