One of the most amazing singles last year came from Southend's Baddies , a hotbed for recent musical talent including These New Puritans and The Horrors. The single 'Battleships' was touted as The Futureheads meets Queens Of The Stone Age, a thrilling 134 second rollercoaster ride. I immediately pegged them as ones to keep an eye on in 2009. A year or so on, Baddies are about to release their debut album, 'Do The Job'. It's already out digitally (on the cheap as well, only [...]

Don't you love it when you discover a AMAZING new band? That's what happened when I found out about Baddies a couple of days ago. One of my mates from my home town puts on nights, and he sent out a Facebook message saying that we HAVE to check out the band that he's booked for this Thursday night. Seeing as he's got Jack Beats (yes, Jack Beats!) booked for his club in Bedford the following evening, I thought I'd take his advice. And crikey - I wasn't disappointed! So say hello to Baddies. These guys [...]
Baddies latest single, out September 14th. Taken from their debut album 'Do The Job' released September 21st.

In a never-ending quest for ceaseless procrastination in between the mild debauchery of weekly festivals, it seems vaguely appropriate to compile some sort of hideously clichéd sounds of the summer thus far collection. In no particular order. Obviously. 1. Golden Silvers- True Romance (True No. 9 Blues) Lyrical perfection from Gwilym Gold and his spangled heroes of the rejuvenated disco generation. 2. Baddies- Battleships Frantic borderline insanity from suited and booted Southend upstarts. With added barking. 3. Jack Peñate- So Near So near yet so [...]

Holding to State ’s strict morning diet of natural, non-alcoholic beverages, we begin day two by squeezing our expanding frame in to see a band every bit as pure as the carton of apple juice we hold. First Aid Kit shot to You Tube fame on the back of a Fleet Foxes cover – the two sisters and their pastoral, folk sound making a very ‘homey’ version of ‘Tiger Mountain Peasant Song’. The rest of what they do is, well, nice . There’s something Little House On The Prairie about them, especially when after [...]

Out with the old and in with the new as VV Brown’s new-wave Motown reignites exhausted minds and burned bodies. Swamped out by enough speaker stacks to blow tons of tents away into the sun-soaked sky, the likes of Shark In The Water and Crying Blood pierce the musty, bustling particles of Glastonbury air, reenergising better than a warm Red Bull. Up next over on the John Peel tent, the compère’s reeling off another hideously misguided stab at MJ, before Baddies bumble onstage, ripping ferociously through One Eye Open and Battleships in their sharp suited custom [...]

Baddies' new single "Holler For My Holiday" is released June 1st. This is the video for that.

Baddies are a (little-difficult-to-label-gen re-wise) quartet from just down the road from me in sunny Southend-on-Sea. The Essex coastal town has speedily become a spectacular musical-hub of activity in the past few years - producing acts such as The Horrors, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and These New Puritans – so are Southend's latest turnout set to be as successful as their fellow locals? Well, yes I think so, considering Baddies have been bigged-up by pretty much everyone in the music industry of late. Everywhere I look, Baddies are compared to Queens of the [...]

Behold! a few more songs we very like-to-love by artists scheduled to play at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas next month. Sorry about the generic titles this year for these SXSW posts. Last year it was Franglish and oh-so-chic. This year, well, as you see. (Fortunately it doesn't seem to affect the music.) Click song titles to play songs, artist names to go to their SXSW

We've just recently discovered Baddies , a rockin four-piece from Southend-on-Sea, England, and since we seem to be suffering from a bit of UK wanderlust today, we're delivering you their video for the single "Battleships." Enjoy.

From what we're heard on their myspace player......this looks like a band to watch out for. I mean who knows, they could give Franz Ferdinand and their tight pants rock a good old ripping for their money NME - "Rawcous rock righteousness from Southend. Sounds like Future Of The Left torturing Howlin Pelle Almqvist" BBC ONLINE – “Like Franz Ferdinand coming out of prison and losing faith

Something a little different from me for this blog, I've had a weakness for a deep dubby sound for years. Ben One sent me this tune and I'm feeling it. Along the lines of Stereotyp, it's got enough energy for a rave, but enough vibes to keep yr average stoner happy. Not his usual sound, it's definitely one he's got on lock. The original tune, "Iceburg", is from the Baddys in Brooklyn, and sounds so different I didn't dare post it for fear of harshing yr mellow. PLUR. Ben One - Foxxy [...]
