The other day my friend Dainon urged me to listen to this when it was live on the internet airwaves, I was instantly tangled in tightly. Jay Henderson fronts the Salt Lake City group Band of Annuals , who I've written about and loved before. This song immediately reminded of another fabulous band that he introduced me to, Blind Pilot - especially songs like this , and some of the ache of fellow SLCer Joshua James [...]

Awww Yea-uh! Back again with a handful of tunes I've been diggin' on lately. You know the drill: listen... enjoy... buy. Wilco - Jolly Banker A couple weeks ago, Wilco made this Woody Guthrie cover tune available for download on their site. It's another example of music completely transcending time and history - the satirical song that was penned back in the dust bowl days as a slight to the fat-pocketed bankers rings just as true today. Nice choice Jeff. In related news, Wilco has announced [...]

band of annuals are an alt-country outfit from salt lake city, and this week's edition of our sunday night live series - "something true," loaded up with harmonica - comes from their 2006 live at the warehouse ep. band of annuals - something true (live)

Most days Monday through Friday while I sit and type and answer questions and plan important things, my day is pleasantly peppered with my friend Dainon sending songs and other things that bring me joy. Lately, this dayjob of mine has been quite busy and lots of the stuff I'm connecting best with comes from him. Today a song popped into my inbox that I loved from the get-go. Salt Lake City artist David Williams is preparing to release a rich live EP called Wyoming , and [...]

Tomorrow night has got some great local shows to check out. On top of the great show over at Thee Parkside we just wrote about, one of our favorite local bands, Or, the Whale , will be performing a special acoustic show ("Porch Set") tomorrow night over at the Hotel Utah Saloon . Joining them will be Salt Lake City's Band of Annuals and Los Angeles-based Leslie and the Badgers . Download audio file (01-shasta-rainydawg.mp3) Or, the Whale - Shasta (Live on Rainydawg) [...]

...but it sounds closer than ever with the sublimely sepia ebb of Band of Annuals and their sleepy, country-inflected male/female harmonies. A Christmas gift from a friend out in SLC, their album Let Me Live (2007) is one of my favorite new discoveries. If you love Whiskeytown like I do, this can help fill in some of the cracks and gaps in your heart since the Caitlin Cary/Ryan Adams project parted ways in 1999. Band of Annuals (not to be confused with The Annuals [...]
dammit, i knew i should have paid attention to the band of annuals' let me live a lot sooner than 4 days ago. seriously, this is the finest slice of americana i have heard since the everybodyfields' nothing is okay - which was my favorite record of 07. as far as i am concerned, its the best whiskeytown record that they never got around to making. but, i dont want to make band of annuals seem like a whiskeytown rip-off, but they share a lot of similarities that it would be to their discredit not to [...]

One of the most impressive alt-country bands I've heard in recent times are Band Of Annuals, hailing from Utah in the US. Front and centre to their appeal is the vocal interplay between frontman Jay Henderson and keyboardist Jeremi Hanson. Comparisons to Whiskeytown can be made and I'd recommend their album 'Let Me Live' which you can get here . Their debut album has also been re-released and can be bought here . Band Of Annuals - Blood On My Shirt [...]
It is definitely Autumn. The weather is getting a bit cooler, kids are back in school and bands are out on their fall tours. It's the last hurrah down the beach. The Dewey Beach Music Conference starts tonight and runs through Saturday. With over 100 bands from all over the country at 7 different venues, it is sure to have something for everyone. The best part is all nighttime shows are absolutely free! Local acts playing that we have covered are Philly favs [...]

In any form of writing you're going to hear similar themes - whether it be lost love, anger, lust, fear etc. - this is what writing is for. It's meant to channel those emotions into something relatable. One theme that continuously pops up is the yearning for home. I'm sure there's some kind of psychological explanation for an ordinary human being's need to have a place to call his own and to yearn for the familiar since it's an emotion we all feel. As relaxing as any vacation [...]
Today's show is a bit of a South by Southwest showcase with a few other bits thrown in. Band of Annuals Well, I'm extremely relieved and quite happy at the moment. I had my very first in-studio performance and interview today with Salt Lake City's alt-country unit Band of Annuals , and it couldn't have gone any better (for the first time). The bands members include Jay Henderson on acoustic guitar, vocals, and harmonica; Jeremi Hanson on vocals, wurlitzer, and organ; Brent Dreiling on pedal steel; Jamie Timm on electric guitar; and Charlie lewis on percussion. They really are quite fine folks and I'd like to thank them once again for coming [...]

Hey, folks, today's show is an archived edition; it's the February 6 episode to be exact. Sorry - things are busy, but please don't fret because on tomorrow's show we'll have an in-studio session and interview with Salt Lake City's Band of Annuals . The A.W. Feldt interview shall be rescheduled (hopefully for Friday), but if you really need to hear him play live, he's opening for the Band of Annuals tomorrow night. Please refer to the post below for details. Check out these BOA tracks: Band of Annuals - The Ballad of Casey Jones [...]
Band of annuals (Formely the Annuals) hail from Utah, Salt lake city. Alternative country meets sweet pop melodies. This album 'Let me live' which is available here was recorded with the help of Scott Wiley who has worked with Ryan Adams as well as Elliott Smith and you can certainly hear the former on this great album. Some real sad bastard stuff mixed in with some sweet melodies (Think Ryan Adams dueting with Gillian welch ) fans of alt country will love this album. They have toured with magnolia electric company [...]
