She's preparing for the media push behind her and Matthew Sweet 's collaborative album 'Under the Covers Vol. 2,' and she's in the beginning stages of writing a new Bangles record. "I'm really enjoying it," Hoffs tells Spinner of the writing process. "We're kind of under the radar to some extent, but we're always on and off the road during the year. We're sort of approaching [...]

The end of February/beginning of March is time of year when everyone in Canada fights a terrible case of cabin fever and/or seasonal affective disorder. I've been so grumpy that I don't even want to blog, much less go to work, do my dishes, go the gym, etc. Here are a few tracks to help pull you (and me) through the rest of winter. I remember this one from my parent's record collection: The Mamas & the Papas - California Dreamin'.mp3 Buy: If You [...]

You know what? I got glowsticks in the mail today, and I have absolutely no idea from who they are. I know they came from Hong Kong but that's it. But yes, it made my day. Ws really cool to get something, and that unexpected. Awesome, thank you whoever sent it. The Kinks, oh how I love them. Even though Ray looks like Dennis Lyxzén from The (International) Noise Conspiracy, which is by far the most overrated band ever. They are complete shit. And Dennis can't even sing, stupid ass. Why can't they stop with that rubbish band? [...]

The Asteroids Galaxy Tour kick off their new Sonic Arts EP with a couple knocks on a cowbell and then launch into a series of horn blasts cribbed from any number of classic soul bands, effectively announcing that these Danes are here to party. And that is exactly what "Around The Bend" is all about. Over a funky beat, Mette Linberg lets you know that she is down for some "hot love on a platter," which judging from her looks should be enough to get her a decent following. Between the catchy [...]

I Rage Against The Machine. Cioè. Ma che è? Ecco. Justice [...]
"I got nothing." I love it when Jon Stewart says that. But seriously, I've got nothing to say today, maybe even tomorrow. Sometimes I'm overflowing with thoughts for the blog and I can't keep up with myself, but right now I'm dry. Empty. Without an original idea. I couldn't even come up with a song for the next contrast podcast , that's how bad it is. I am listening to a ton of music. I re-upped my [...]

September has nearly gotten away from us. Things have been quiet here, I know. I've got a few posts up my sleeve - just no time to do them. So, with a few hours left in the month, a few versions of a simple and perfect pop classic. Download: "September Gurls" (Studio Rehearsal) mp3 by Big Star, 1974. available on Nobody Can Dance "September Gurls" mp3 by Superdrag, 1996. available on I Know the Score [...]

Post show last night, we all hit The Cutting Room, Chris Noth's bar right around the Flatiron building, and they've got this drink called "The Ginger Snap" there- holy shit, man. On paper, it's ginger infused vodka, vanilla vodka, & walnut liqueur, but on palette- to quote Brandon- "it's Sex Nog!" This is the kind of drink you actively develop a drinking problem for. Don't forget, WCLiaC is @ USM tonight with Sherpa and Ragnaröck . Goddamn I love hoodie weather. What up, Dreamtime . The Bangles "Hazy Shade of Winter (Dreamtime [...]

I've always loved walking. The best part, one really gets a feel for their surroundings, rather than the carousel effect of watching the world through the window of a fast moving car, bus or train. I enjoy walking so much that I often try (unsuccessfully) to convert my fellow Southern Californians to leave the car behind and hoof it - this is a place where peeps will jump into their auto to drive two blocks to a fast food joint. Now, there's places humans shouldn't walk and I found that out during a Summer in the Nevada desert. I walked [...]
Tonight's post is vagtastical. Be Your Own Pet Bicycle Race Bicycle, Bicycle (Summer Summer EP version) The only time Pitchfork and I have been in complete in total agreement is in regards to this band. We both loved their first CD, liked very much their second and were completely and totally fucking bummed when they decided to call it quits this month. I had the lucky opportunity to see the whirling teenyboppers from hell when they played Lollapalooza a few years ago and I am so [...]
Part two of our 80's tribute series, we follow up all the rockin' with a little new wave pop. Jake Shimabukuro - Time After Time (Cyndi Lauper) The smooth Hawaiian sounds of Jake’s ukulele became a youtube hit with his While My Guitar Gently Weeps cover , but this take is almost as soulful. I wish the lounge background music was stripped though. KT Tunstall - Walk Like an Egyptian (The Bangles) A live take here, [...]
Kids, it's really freakin' hot outside. Like Matt, my initial plans for our meteorological playlists got shelved when inspiration (and a wild thunderstorm) struck, but now that the weather's settled a bit (Massachusetts is no longer being hit with Florida-like tropical rain) and the temperature's consistently on the muggy, toasty side, I thought it would be prudent to resurrect my first list to help provide some relief. Without further ado (or, sadly, explanation - it's too muggy to type), here are my favorite cold weather tunes. To quote Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mister Freeze in Batman & [...]
