Bonnaroo officially dropped their lineup today, and it's no slouch. The festival will run from June 7-10 in its usual spot in Manchester, Tennessee. Headliners for this year include Radiohead, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Phish. The bill also sports a reunited Beach Boys crew, and some guy named Bon Iver who happens to be trending after winning best new artist at the Grammys. We can hardly contain our excitement over the Bonnaroo lineup over here in New York! Coachella sold out instantly, but we wont be missing this one! I've never been to Bonnaroo. I've always wanted to go but I never had the money/didn't have the time/wasn't impressed by the line up. But I am making it my mission to get down to Tennessee this year for the 'Roo because, dammit, I wanna listen to good music while on lots of drugs. I've never been to Bonnaroo, and I was hoping to keep it that way in 2012. Nothing against AC Entertainment (the promoters of the fest) or the thousands of stinky hippies that populate Manchester, Tenn. a few days each year; massive outdoor festivals just aren't conducive to a great live music experience most of the time. While Beach Boys covers should always be approached with caution, I had a good feeling about this one - not to mention it seemed like an opportunity to give last night's tribute at the Grammys a run for its money. As it turns out, Pete Yorn just might be the guy for the job here: all sun-burnt harmonies with a twinge of '60s psychedelic garage-rock, Yorn clearly reveres the iconic California group while bringing a welcome dose of his own more affected vocal approach into the mix. This is the Best of the Music Industry? EDITORIAL: Grammys, 2012. Seriously, there was once a time when the Music Industry would spend millions of dollars developing bands and performers.
