I love the Beach Boys, I make no bones about it. While it is seemingly very hip to claim the high water mark Pet Sounds or the ill fated Smile and pan the rest of the lot, I'll take it much further than that. From the early 602s harmony rich barber shop ditties to the 702s hippied out Sunflower & Surfs Up these guys were great at what they did, turning in their fare share of classic tunes along the way. I wanted to be excited by the band's reunion [...]
Recorded a few months back, today's release was Grammy inspired.

While Beach Boys covers should always be approached with caution, I had a good feeling about this one - not to mention it seemed like an opportunity to give last night's tribute at the Grammys a run for its money. As it turns out, Pete Yorn just might be the guy for the job here: all sun-burnt harmonies with a twinge of '60s psychedelic garage-rock, Yorn clearly reveres the iconic California group while bringing a welcome dose of his own more affected vocal approach into the mix. All told, it's an inspired take that even feels a bit joyful to [...]

This is the Best of the Music Industry? EDITORIAL: Grammys, 2012. Seriously, there was once a time when the Music Industry would spend millions of dollars developing bands and performers. At some point in time ( they blame the internet piracy thing) they sort of hammered away at people's tastes to the point where they don't have any. So what are the Grammys for? Interesting fact there was once 109 categories and now there are 78! Is the music industry shrinking although it still thinks in big business terms [...]

The Beach Boys looked their age and then some, almost like some SNL skit lampooning old rockers.

There are three things most viewers learned from Full House : For one, it's totally understandable to drive a car through the dining room; two, Mike Love prefers vegetarian pizza; and three, John Stamos is an active member of the band. That last part is actually somewhat true since Stamos had been a part-time Beach Boy long before the show's existence. Oh well. Anyways, as Zap 2 It reports , Mike Love slipped a little news last night on the Grammys' red carpet, where he insisted Uncle Jesse would be tagging along in the [...]

Credit: Allen J. Schaben / Los Angeles Times Last night we witnessed a very safe ceremony for the 54th Annual Grammy Awards. The fact that I'm not as outraged about the performances and the results as I normally am has had me stewing on this all night and all morning. I'm always the one in my circle that cheers on The Recording Academy to make better decisions so they can be both relevant while not getting too caught up in The Long Tail looking for the year's very best, so why can't I feel better about last night's [...]

I know I am a little late on this, but here are the albums that I am looking forward to hearing the most. Please understand this is not my guess at what will be the best albums of 2012, or my attempt at finding the pulse of what the general public is most excited about. These the 12 albums that I am personally the most excited about. Also know that I have excluded several albums that have already been released that surely would have made this list, had I done a month ago, including the new ones by [...]
