DJ Faroff's mashup of The Beatles & LCD Soundsystem (with a lil Kinks thrown in) is faroff from being new, applying for jobs has been getting in the way of my music research ( know of anything? ), but this is one solid mash. "The Brits Are Playing at the Warehouse" is bringing that Beatles sound forward more than just mashing it up. So here's something different: Roberta Flack just released a solid album of Beatles covers on February 3rd. Check out the preview above. Favorite songs? "And I Love Him," and "Here, There, and Everywhere." If you like the Beatles or not, this is a good record. Roberta Flack is legendary so hearing her cover some Beatles songs is unique and interesting. Having only been released yesterday, Dr. Dogs latest album Be The Void has already offered a lot to discuss. In that sense, Ill try to fit most of my thoughts into this blog post, though Im sure I wont get to all of them. I would be remiss though if I failed to mention the great amount of Beatles-interplay that happens throughout record, arguably more so than their usual stylistic appropriation. So far this week it seems like a number of covers are surfacing (hopefully we aren't too behind on getting these gems to your ears) and wouldn't you know it, I have another one for you! This time we have a local favorite in Minneapolis ' own Cloud Cult with their performance of The Beatles ' "Help!". A charity project organized by Vega Productions has a slew of artists covering classic Beatles tracks. You can buy the entire compilation, Minnesota Beatle Project Vol. 3, on their website . One of my favorite artists, Cloud Cult, covered the Beatles classic song Help. It's recognizable as the original, but it is also entirely a Cloud Cult concoction.
