One of the best things about living in South Carolina is the amazing radio station of WNCW. They feature all types of music from Bluegrass to Jazz and everything in between. Every year they do a list of the top 100 Albums of the year and number 9 this year was the Belleville Outfit which incorporate every style you could can think of.Check out these 2 tracks and decide if they are alt-country

Well... It's that time of year again. The 2009 Americana Music Association's Awards and Honors Show will be held September 17 at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. The event is part of the Americana Music Festival and Conference taking place September 16tn - 19th in Nashville. As I did last year ... I'll be taking a look at most of the awards categories and trying to handicap the field. We start today with the nominees for "Best New & Emerging Artist." First up is a [...]

Gypsy jazz, blue swing and country harmony Though the Belleville Outfit makes their home in Austin, Texas, three of the members originally hail from South Carolina, and two more were drawn from school connections in New Orleans. Only violinist Phoebe Hunt is an Austin native (and a UT graduate to boot!), and the Southern roots help account for the original flavor in the band's swing, particularly in Rob Teter's pinched, Satchmo-style vocals. Along with the long-running Hot Club of Cowtown, this sextet has become one of Austin's foremost proponents of gypsy jazz. The group [...]

Yesterday , I told you that there is some great live music that's coming to Knoxville this weekend. Now I need to tell you exactly who is going to be here and when. The Belleville Outfit kicks off a great weekend on Friday afternoon (today) with an appearance on WDVX's Blue Plate Special live from The Square Room at noon. The Belleville Outfit is a six piece group from Austin who are certainly no strangers to us here in East Tennessee. They've already played in Knoxville several times including an appearance at Tennessee Shines [...]

One of Austin's youngest and best kept secrets is the new grass string band known as the Belleville Outfit . They have a new record called Time To Stand coming out May 12. "Sunday Morning" captures what the band does best by mixing genres like blues, swing, bluegrass and even gypsy into a sound that's all their own. Sunday Morning
Another year, another missed SXSW. I promise next year I'll try my best to get down to Austin to check out this seminal function in music, but this year I'll be here in Columbus, hanging out, waiting for the snow to melt. But that doesn't mean I can't help some folks out. I know that most of you reading this blog will also be missing out on the festivities in Austin, so I figured I would take a look at the list of bands playing this year, and do what I'm sure many many music fans do [...]

You have six musicians and very, very little time before your first live appearance. Cram everything in two marathon practice session and hit the MerleFest stage. Sextet The Belle Outfit did exactly and stunned the audience. Their debut album hits the shelves of your trusty record store February 5. Wanderin' is a great collection of jazzy tinged Americana - imagine dipping an Over The Rhine album in a country sauce and stirring it with the bow of a fiddle. Naming your group after a Django Reinhardt song sets the standard very high [...]

The Belleville Outfit is a loose conglomeration of music school students, Austin musicians and most of all friends. The 6 piece band mixes easy jams with acoustic instrumentation. They describe their music as a combination of "gypsy swing, big band jazz and cross-genre Americana music." Their debut record Wanderin' comes out February 5. The title track below is modern bluegrass a la Allison Krauss, while "Somebody Like You" adds electric instruments and jams a little harder than your average newgrass group (for example The Duhks, Crooked Still, Nickel Creek). These guys [...]
