Well, at a time when indie music would seem to rule all, but no-one knows exactly what it is, The Bicycles seem to have it down right to the last note. I bet their t-shirt size says not L or Xl, but Indie - just small enough to hug you like one of the animals who adorn the cover of The Boy Least Likely To's album. You know. So that's kinda what they sound like: hand-claps, funny-but-nice chord changes, unprofessional but utterly charming vocals, addresses in Canada. The perfect entry into their world is [...]

It seems like I end up posting incredibly poppy songs at the beginning and end of each new work week. This was probably unintentional at first, but it's definitely become a bit of an accidental theme over the past several months. Because let's face it, who couldn't use a wonderful happy dose of pop to get started on a Monday morning or get up and out the door on a Friday afternoon? And today's featured song, The Bicycles' "Gotta Get Out", definitely brings the indie pop right to your doorstep. "Gotta Get [...]
The Good, The Bad, and The Cuddly by The Bicycles is quickly becoming one of the funnest albums for me to listen to in any situation. The songs are extremely short (most fall around 2:00) and they grab your attention right from the beginning. Many of the songs like "B-B-Bicyles" and "Please Don't Go" seem to reference 60's surf pop, and songs like "Gotta Get Out" with its trumpets,

"Having a substance should not be considered a crime, because so far it's victimless. If you want to talk about distributing substances that are lethal, yeah, that oughta be brought up, but then, let's be serious. Tobacco is far ahead of anything else. Alcohol is second. Hard drugs are way down the bottom, and furthermore most drug use, though it's very harmful for the person, has very little social effect. The crime associated with hard drugs is mostly a consequence of criminalization. [Q: so should we go after the people who make cigarettes?] If the principle is, let's not get [...]
A good part of my youth was characterized by my irrational fear of upside-down roller coasters. I spent my childhood in Dayton, Ohio, living about an hour away from King's Island (and later Paramount's King's Island), an amusement park in Mason, Ohio in the same vein as a Six Flags or-I'm sure-any other [...]

Got a friendly lil' email note from Matt of The Bicycles. So friendly in fact that I had to have a listen. Sometimes good things happen just like that... Matt and the rest of this Toronto group serve up bite-size pop nuggets guaranteed to put a smile on your face and a tap in your toe. How can you not love a band that places the following notice on their download page: "Now you may think you already have 'Paris Be Mine' but *this* is the mix that's on the album - spot the differences! clapclap!" That's right, download it [...]
The Bicycles - "B-B-Bicycles" The Bicycles - "Gotta Get Out" I know, I know the question you're all asking yourselves: "wha??" It's The Bicycles! They come from Toronto, and they make it sound like the easiest task (easier than drying a towel or moving a chair side to side) to write a song that fits in your pocket better than keys, your own hand. With "B-B-Bicycles", I've never had the hots for cymbals more in my life. It's the theme song to some Blue and Green Crimefighting Show, starring a nobody (for now). With "Gotta Get Out", the glossy melody [...]

Untitled Document I like a lot of music, but there is certain music that I find distracting, either because its so good I cant concentrate on anything else or its super loud or noisy and I just get frustrated. When I am working on something I like to have music thats melodic and unobtrusive. [...]
The Bicycles are my new favorite thing. Their new album, The Good, The Bad and the Cuddly is a genre-jumping ball of fun and delight. Guests on the album range from Jay Nunes (the Meligrove Band), Mike Olsen (Hidden Cameras) and Gentleman Reg. MP3: The Bicycles - Cuddly Toy With "Cuddly Toy," ...

The Bicycles are my new thing. Their new album, The Good, The Bad and the Cuddly is a genre-jumping ball of fun and delight. Think Beulah writing songs for lovestruck middle schoolers. Guests on the album range from Jay Nunes (the Meligrove Band), Mike Olsen (Hidden Cameras) and Gentleman Reg. MP3: The Bicycles - Cuddly Toy With "Cuddly Toy," I picture Matt Becket of The Bicycles sitting down his significant other for an important talk, only to be tossed an acoustic guitar [...]
The Bicycles roll along the musical streets of Toronto aiming straight for your indie pop heart. They are also, without question, steering for your sweet tooth (teeth?) as well. This great quintet have been rolled in sugar scraped from early '70's vinyl (Drew Smith, second from right, is wearing, what I believe is, a Partridge Family t-shirt in the photo). The band caught a 'sweet' break when

Mp3 Soundtrack: Pela/[ MySpace ]: Venom This is off Pela's latest CD, All In Time. Which you can purchase here at CD Baby on the cheap. I've been hearing all about Pela lately , especially after the Norah Jones thingy. So when I was at my friends office the other day, and saw their album laying around in a bin, I grabbed it and took it home with me. I am so [...]

I'm f*ckin around with some video and photo editing sites online. Eyespot and Jumpcut , specifically. I am attempting to make wicked rad video montages of the latest bike parade. But that parade happened last Monday, as it will every Monday for the rest of the season. And now it's Thursday, and I still haven't made a suitable video. So I am just going to post up the pics I have, with an update following that for the videos (hopefully). [update. here is the video .] [...]
