The Black Angels released their last LP Phosphene Dream in 2010 via Blue Horizon. Austin's psychedelic warrior s The Black Angels are back. Blue Horizon (back from the dead) will put out Indigo Meadow on April 2, 2013 and the first single "Don't Play With Guns" is posted below. The single is very impressive and sounds like a whole new chapter. The tune was apparently penned around the time of the Aurora, Colorado mass shooting and it rises to heights that we have only heard (recently) from Thee Oh Sees' masterpiece Purifiers II . The psychedelic [...]

I've been listening to Austin psych-rockers The Black Angels quite a lot lately, on my commutes to work in this frigid weather here in Toronto. And on one of those mornings, I wondered when we'd be able to hear new music from the band. The next day, I got this press release, announcing that the Blue Horizon recording group will be putting out the bands' latest effort Indigo Meadow (in stores and online on April 2). Great timing. The Black Angels ' most revelatory collection thus far, Indigo Meadow marks groups' fourth full-length release, [...]
Love these guys. This song is already stuck in my head. From their upcoming Indigo Meadow LP (April 2).

theblackangels.com Another week, another batch of show announcements to cobble into a blog post, another band with "black" in their name hitting the road. This time, it's Austin psych-rock veterans The Black Angels , who've announced a trans-continental tour this April in support of their fourth full-length album, Indigo Meadow , out April 2. A preview track has been made available to stream, and while it doesn't stray far from formula - you don't make it as far in the drugged-out, trippy drone-rock game by changing it up too much - it's [...]

Austin psych-rock outfit The Black Angels will release their fourth studio album, Indigo Meadow , on April 2nd via Blue Horizon. The follow-up to 20102s Phosphene Dream was recorded in El Paso with producer John Congleton (The Walkmen, Jens Lekman, Okkervil River). According to a press release, the 13-track effort represents a "rather major leap forward for these avatars of psych rock," affirming their "full-throttle commitment to the psychedelic ethos of creativity, community and boundless experimentation." But even as they expand their songs into more far-out aural territories, the [...]

Originally written as a response to the Batman slayings in Aurora, Colorado, The Black Angels ' new single, "Don't Play With Guns," isn't just heavy in terms of subject matter. The first track from Indigo Meadow (out April 2nd), finds the band ditching the poppier sounds of their most recent release for the dark, droning guitar sound of their 2006 debut, Passover. There's even a freak-out of an outtro at the 3:00 mark, another aspect of the band that got lost when they explored those other psychedelic avenues on 20102s Phosphene Dream. This sounds promising. The Black Angels [...]
