Between artistic temperaments, egos, money, fame and temptation, it's a wonder the bonds of brotherly love can ever survive rock 'n' roll. Here's a ranking of our favorite brother bands -- from saccharine-sweet bromance to stage-brawling near-fratricide. Hanson You think the Hanson brothers couldn't get any more adorable? BEST of 2009 Music Series by Sean Hafferty Someone You Should Know... David Wax Museum by artist Alec Dempster Like your favorite pair of jeans, there is something familiar, comfortable, and unique about The David Wax Museum . I'd heard good things about these folks, but [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News When any jam-friendly band rolls through San Francisco, the shadow of the Grateful Dead somehow looms over them. That shadow is sometimes literal, as many of the city's venues have direct ties to the Dead and still feature framed concert posters or photographs from the band's heyday on their walls. The Black Crowes acknowledged and honored this history on Sunday night when they closed out their five-night stand at the original Fillmore -- the auditorium where the Dead performed many of [...]

Filed under: News , Exclusive It's that time of year where people like to make lists and check them twice. While every music blogger and Facebook friend of yours prepares their Top 10 lists for 2009, singer-songwriter Todd Snider gave Spinner a look at his. He gives slots to Phish for their new album 'Joy' (No. 2), and to the Rolling Stones , for an upcoming reissue of their all-time classic album, 'Exile on Main Street' (No. 7). But Snider's top spot goes to -- drum roll, [...]
On the official website for Louisville, KY's HullabaLOU Music Festival , there are two separate definitions given. One for hullabaloo , which is a noun that means "Great noise or excitement; uproar." Then there's one for HullabaLOU , which (according to the site) is a noun that means, "A three day summer music festival July 23-25, 2010 at Churchill Downs Racetrack in Louisville, KY." They're missing another definition, unfortunately. It's another noun, and for HullabaLOU , and it's something along the lines of "a three day summer weekend in hell, likely filled with upset [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music , Exclusive Part of being in a young start-up band is paying your dues by taking on multiple roles beyond just musician. Dawes bassist Wylie Weber has answered the call and become the band's default handyman, gear tech and roadie. "I'm sure my methods are a little unconventional," he admits to Spinner. "A few months back we opened Taylor's amp case and realized that the amp had pretty much caved in on itself. Since we didn't really have [...]
It's hard for me to believe that 2010 marks 20 years since The Black Crowes released Shake Your Money Maker, an album that landed The Crowes a spot as one of the preeminent jam bands on the scene. Just a few months ago, the group released Before the Frost...Until the Freeze and to support their effort the band is currently on the "Stuck Inside Utopia" Tour, which by my calculations is their 17th tour since 1990. On November 7th, 2009 The Riverside [...]

The Decemberists - Photo Credit: Richard Giraldi We've already given you a preview of what's playing in Chicago on New Year's Eve . We've told you about the new club opening up Lincoln Hall and all the great acts scheduled to play there in the coming weeks. Our Daily and Weekly Diversions keep you informed of what's on the horizon. But still, we here at Loud Loop Press felt there were just too many great shows coming up in this fair city of ours that we didn't want you [...]

I left the bar of Nebraska Cornhusker fans to walk down to the Ryman to see The Black Crowes. I had never seen them before and have always wanted to. I wasn't sure if I was going to find a ticket to the show, but I figured I'd try. Then a nice guy who was a big Black Crowes fan asked me to name 3 songs, and I blanked completely. Even if I remembered the names of the songs I knew, they all would have been the hits I heard on the radio. He still gave me his extra ticket. [...]
Hell City Glamours Hell City Glamours Powerage Records 03 November 2009 by Jon Kerr There was no such thing as grunge. You can't walk down the high street these days for kids in white jeans. Having pointy hair and tattoos of Les Paul guitars and go-go girls dancing through fire is still cool and always has been. Or so Hell City Glamours would have you believe. Hmmm...let's pop that little bubble for [...]

Oh! Sweet Nuthin' is the last track on the 1970 Velvet Underground album Loaded . Loaded would be the last Velvet Underground album before guitarist/lead singer Lou Reed left the group to start a solo career. I'll tell 'ya, if you do actually listen to all five versions of this tune - and you happen to listen to them all in a row, you're going to have the overwhelming urge to blast some loud and aggressive tunes as soon as that's done. 44 minutes of Oh! Sweet Nuthin' might bring you [...]

Chris and Rich Robinson formed the Black Crowes in 1984. There are have been a lot of highs and some lows on their records over the years, but they have always remained a hugely successful live act. One of the big reasons for this is their ability to mix in great covers into their sets. Here are a few of their best that have been captured on video over the years. A fun video (with some hilarious crowd shots) of the Crowes covering Bob Dylan's "Rainy Day Woman #12 & 35" at the 1991 Monsters of Rock [...]
Have you ever stood five feet away from a napalm explosion during the height of the Vietnam War? That's pretty much what standing in the front row at an Entrance show is like. As the band took the purple-lit stage, bassist Paz Lenchantin gave drummer Derek James a high five and they both smiled, as if in on a secret. I figure that's pretty much what I'd do before every show if I was about to play these songs live.
By: David SchultzPlaying before a live audience is where The Black Crowes have always been at home. It's that intangible part of their aura that makes their recently released Before The Frost . . . Until The Freeze sound like nothing they've ever released. Culled from five days of performances at Levon Helm's studio in Woodstock, New York, the same locale for the beloved drummer's Midnight
![The Black Crowes – Before The Frost… [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2000814_lg.jpg)
The Black Crowes released "I Ain't Hiding" as a free download a few weeks back and, as a result, my expectations for Before The Frost… lied somewhere between zero and negative three on a scale of one to ten. I reserved my opinions on the track when we posted it, but it's a disco tune that falls flat on its ass. Well I've got great news. That track is not representative of what is otherwise very good album from one of America's greatest rock n' roll bands. For the band's eighth studio album, they gathered some [...]
