Hey! It's the 10th birthday of the iTunes Store, and Apple has very helpfully put up a sort of timeline going back through the store's 10-year history, with all kinds of nifty trivia about what songs have performed well ( The Black Eyed Peas !) and what artists got an early start on iTunes (a lot of them!), and it's a nice opportunity to reflect upon huge-selling songs and albums past, especially from a few years ago when things were, well, a little bit darker. Apparently there were some rumors earlier this week that The Black Eyed Peas were replacing Fergie because she's out of commission at the moment, what with the whole "carrying a human life inside her" thing. The other day I skimmed an amusing article online that re-imagined the 2012 Summer Olympics relocated to the United States. What would the opening ceremony have sounded like? According to the article, not so good. It conjured a mental image of an overblown Hollywood blockbuster-style affair directed not by Danny Boyle ( Slumdog Millionaire ), but by Michael Bay ( Armageddon , the Transformers series), and headlined perhaps by the Black Eyed Peas. I think it's fairly safe to assume a large sum of money has changed hands, as George Clinton's claim against Black Eyed Peas for ripping off bits of (Not Just) Knee Deep has been settled. The Black Eyed Peas defence was that they thought they'd licensed the samples and had innocently used them.
