He Met Her is a "buzzworthy" LA-based duo currently prepping for the release of their debut EP, Crime Novela, due later this year Consisting of Mowgli Moon (he) and Rocky Chance (her), He Met Her has to be one of the most GORGEOUS duos I've ever seen. Seriously! They're both model-STUNNING. Their sound is a lovely mixture of both retro pop and contemporary electronica, sort of a mix

The Twelves is an electronic music production and DJing duo, made up of Brazilian musicians João Miguel and Luciano Oliveira. They are best known for their remixing of songs by artists ranging from M.I.A. and La Roux to Nirvana and The Beatles . Spin dubbed them one of "9 Unknown Bands to Watch at SXSW" in March 2009 [1] and one of the "25 Must-Hear Artists at Coachella 2011". [2] They appeared on the [...]

While his band, brief late '002s indie-pop sensation Black Kids, continue work on their forthcoming sophomore effort (one we'll be looking forward too, especially if it contains anything as bopping-alone-at-home friendly as "big hit" "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You" or the woefully under-appreciated follow-up "Look At Me (When I Rock Wichoo)" ), bassist Owen Holmes has kept himself even more busy by splintering back off into solo side-project Gospel Music , an act that can currently be found on tour in support of its October-released debut LP [...]
Gospel Music's sound has absolutely nothing to do with gospel music. Black Kids bassist Owen Holmes is the man behind Gospel Music and the band has released a debut LP on Kill Rock Stars, How To Get To Heaven From Jacksonville, FL, with tunes that bring to mind Magnetic Fields and Moldy Peaches. Jaunty acoustic pop twee songs about love, heartbreak and social awkwardness with a bit of a tongue and cheek humor. Gospel Music @ Kill Rock Stars [...]

When I first listened to Sunbears!, I thought I somehow managed to get lost on my drive home and ended up in the '70s - as you do when it's raining and the visibility is low. I can't say I've been lucky enough to experience the '70s before, but I think these guys wish they

A side project for Black Kids' bassist Owen Holmes, Gospel Music is ready to release its debut LP, How To Get To Heaven From Jackskonville, FL. The lead single from the album, "This Town Doesn't Have Enough Bars For Both Of Us," premiered on Pitchfork last recently. "This Town..." is a catchy tune featuring Holmes' baritone sing-talking in front of Madeline Long's background vocals. The new album will be released on October 25th. Listen to, and watch the video for, "This Town Doesn't Have Enough Bars For Both Of Us." [...]

In an age where it is remarkably easy to become a known artist it seems stupidly difficult to remain that way. Someone puts a single up online and some how the right set of ears gives it a listen and the next thing you know they are talking to Sony. Due to rapid advancements in technology the music and art world just aren't what they used to be. Bands no longer make demos they are making singles, and that is why we see so many bands rise and fall. [...]
Photo by Barbara Crane Remember this song? I've been lucky enough to catch The Twelves live twice in the past month, and this track always seems to find its way into their sets. It's nothing new, and yet sounds every bit as fresh and fun as it did back in 2008. And while the Black Kids original was sure to get you smiling, the remix is going to get your body moving--I've yet to see a single

I hope that the song "Friday" is not going to be a staple at high school proms occurring this month. Can you imagine looking back at your prom and remembering that tripe? I had thankfully avoided the song the first time it made the rounds via YouTube sharing, but was forced here to take in the middle school poetry. Worst. Lyrics. Ever. That it was sandwiched in between two great renditions ("Isn't She Lovely" and "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance") only made it harder [...]
You can never really prepare for the mental and physical wringer that is Coachella. Mental, because of the myriad Sophie's Choice -esque positions you're put in as your favorite bands play at the exact same time as your other favorite bands, mere yards away. Physical, because of the inherent dehydrating qualities of spending several hours wandering around the punishing desert sun, augmented by beer. I was resigned to miss this year's Coachella — my first absence since the faraway year of 2008 — until an opportunity to attend presented itself [...]

The Weekend Tunage is a weird one. It's a slot we take great pride in here at The Clink. The slot is aiming to get you ready for the weekend, something to get you fired up and pumped for your Friday night (and, if we can get it posted early enough in the day, make you forget that you're in work). Sometimes it won't be all bouncy and dancy, but it still aims to make you happy, such as O Emperor two weeks ago. Not only that, but [...]

Born and raised in Florida, Black Kids is an indie pop band formed in 2006 by siblings Reggie and Ali Youngblood (guitar, vocals and keys), joined by Owen Holmes on bass, Dawn Watley on keys and backing vocals and Kevin Snow on drums. The band's debut EP, Wizard of Ahhhs , received favorable critical response in 2007 and was followed by their album, Partie Traumatic , which went straight to #5 on the UK Albums Chart in July 2008. Rolling Stone called them one of ten "Artists to Watch" in 2008 and they were [...]

When you hear the word "Brazilian," the first image that comes to mind might not be a pair of disco djs/producers from Rio - especially given the duo's apparent aversion to shaving. But despite this unfortunate fact, Brazilian performers The Twelves have emerged as one of the world's premier electronic acts, being labeled "Rio de Janeiro's answer to Daft Punk." Having remixed such artists as M.I.A., Groove Armada, La Roux, Radiohead, Fever Ray, Two Door Cinema, Metric and Daft Punk themselves, The Twelves (in their own words) "like to take tracks that don't [...]

So after a brief retirement from the blogosphere I am back again. I think my new years resolution will be to post more music here. Over the break I spent a lot of time working on tracks for the EP I'm working on and got a lot done on some remixes/collaborations. I can't say for sure when these will be ready, but I'll keep updates coming. For now I'll just give you guys a playlist of the tracks that I was listening to over the break (DISCLAIMER TO ALL BLOG CHAMPIONS/HIPSTERS: I know you got some of these tracks like [...]
