One thing that has always stood out to me about Ezra Buchla 's music is its timeless quality. So much of what bubbles to the surface from the contemporary underground (is there still an underground?) seems to be a fun house mirror reflection of our current mass culture, or the mass culture that was prominent when this generation of artists were coming of age. Although Buchla (who happens to be the son of Don ) has some traces of grunge in his aesthetic, he seems happily removed from the tide of the current electronic subculture. If you're lucky [...]

As our list continues, we not only were able to find some of the best songs this year, but were floored with some new discoveries as well as some returning ones. Enjoy our Top 100 Songs of 2011 as our list continues. 75. Germany Germany - Intro IV (Order/Disorder) Crisp loops and melodies were easy to swallow here. Germany Germany's 2011 album, Adventures , was certainly that. This whole album showed much promise and replayability throughout 2011. 74. The Pear Traps - Home As simple [...]

North Carolina's indie-pop rockers The Black Rabbits will be stopping in Richmond on their current tour supporting their full Length album "Hypno Switch." This is one of those albums that I had to do a double take with. I was surprised at how much and how quickly I was enjoying it. The Black Rabbits will be performing on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Studio 8 West. Also performing are The Absent Center , Young Adult Fiction and Those Manic Seas , who will also be [...]

So much to catch up on...here's a few tracks to tickle the earbuds. Veteran noisemongering indie rockers Comet Gain have given us another track from their excellent album Howl Of The Lonely Crowd , this time it is the marvellously titled Clang Of The Concrete Swans . Download Comet Gain - Clang Of The Concrete Swans mp3 (from Howl Of The Lonely Crowd) Acid Baby Jesus deliver (as you might surmise) a full throttle blend of scuzzy garage rock, and they do it better than [...]

The Black Rabbits are an indie rock quartet that formed in Orlando. They write songs full of dichotomies. According to lead singer Jetson "It's loud yet soft, edgy yet pure, it has retro elements and modern ones, it's both serious and playful at the same time." The band has already met with a moderate amount of success after only releasing one EP ( self-titled 2010 ). They've played the Grammy Showcase during the Florida Music Fest, been interviewed by MTV as an up and coming band, featured on Fox News, and appeared [...]

Nite Versions goes Rock Versions. Just for now. I find this in-cre-di-ble indie-rock foursome called The Black Rabbits (hello Asheville!). It consists of two brothers, Jetson and Skyler, and their friends Yuki and Kim. I'm really in love with their modern Strokes-esque sound; they're really good! The band is releasing their new full-length album called "Hypno Switch" on June 21. The Black Rabbits - Hypno Switch The Black Rabbits - Hurry, Hurry
Most Likely To: make you relapse. Blood Bunny / Black Rabbit is an EP for Black Heart Procession fans who enjoy the progressive and more electronic wave of the band's music. For the eight-song release (consisting of five remixes and three original, unreleased songs), the band enlisted synthesizer-happy musical associates such as Mr Tube , Eluvium , and Jamuel Saxon . As for the new material, "Blank Page" and "Orchid" are the most promising of the three tracks. [...]

We've all been running a little lethargically with the holiday season upon us, so I thought I would kick start Monday with a bit of amplified heat. We're bringing you a new single from Pujol , and this one's got the backing of Jack White , seeing as he's the man who produced it, not to mention the man putting it out on Third Man Records . You'll find furiously pounding drums in the forefront, with some really clever guitar work going on throughout, all bringing some powerfully energetic [...]

The Black Rabbits self-titled EP hints has a sound best described as lackadaisical, with alt/pop-rock drums carrying loose instrumentation, vocal melodies fitted snugly between. This group is distinct in its ability to mix moods, showcased especially in the track "Hypno Switch", with dark lyrics balanced against a bouncy chorus that is easily hummable. The EP, ending on the campfire-acoustic "Painter, Poet, Prophet, Priest", reveals the band's softness, a commendable flexibility that would make a full-release from this group danceable, interesting.

The worst thing-and the only bad thing-about The Black Rabbits is their name. It sounds so common, so plain, so much like so many other bands out there. In fact, it sounds a lot like a band that The Black Rabbits sound a lot like: The White Rabbits. It almost made me toss this EP out without even listening to it. That would have been a mistake. The Black Rabbits are from the rhythm and blues school of indie rock-think Spoon-that stresses funk and beat and hook. It's purist indie rock-no tinges [...]

The Black Rabbits are two girls and two boys from Asheville, North Carolina that seem to be enjoying making music based on their favorite influences such as Pixies, Strokes and White Stripes. On April 1st they released their self-titled debut EP and are now working on the full album. Their music mixes modern and more classic sounds with ease, although in some cases some beats and rhythms sound all too familiar. If they manage to write a bit more original tracks, they have both the talent and the energy to stand out. Let's wait and see until their first full [...]

Based in Asheville, NC (I thought that place was for hippies only?) The Black Rabbits cite influences like The Pixies, The White Stripes, and Nirvana. They've definitely got that alt-rock sound, but they've also got a catchy bounce to their step. Listen to/buy their EP at bandcamp . "Hypno Switch" feels a little like The Strokes. The chords are agreeable and the vocals are confident. The Black Rabbits deliver no-nonsense jams (all songs from the EP are under 4 minutes) with just enough pop in them to quickly burrow into your memory. Check it out. [...]

My old friend Paul Gala got in touch with me the other day and dropped this one off just in time for Halloween! Some of you may remember Paul as one of the members of South African electro band " Black Rabbit ". Black Rabbit are (sadly ) no more but Paul and Mia (the stunning vocalist from Black Rabbit) are now married and kicking it in the U.K. Paul assures me that we will be hearing a lot more from him in the future, which is awesome as he is one very [...]

In Pursuit of 'Wonky' Within the midst of bass heavy music genres today, the recurring word has and still is to an extent, 'Wonky'. The last few years have seen some of the dance scenes most notable producers in search of the so-called 'Wonk', and that definitive 'Wonky' sound. And as the dance floors of our nation became persistently more Wonky as the days rolled by, with help from mass insurgences of white wonky powders shaking bodies from the waist below. It wa sn't going to be long until our nation were just wobbling [...]

Tom Neville kicks off the collaboration-selection of EP releases for his label Love Minus Zero with an EP hook-up with one of London's coolest and most fun party peoples: Black Rabbit. Tom Neville has one of the most impressive discographies in dance music; he has remixed everyone form The Ting Tings to The Verve to Britney Spears - and that's only in the past year... Black Rabbit started in 2006, with creators Guy Williams, Justin Robertson, Bones and Kelly Love exploding on to the scene with an acid house party vibe where anything goes as long as it's good. Previous [...]

Peter Mulvey is yet another acoustic singer song writer who hasn't quite made it to the top but has all the talent and professionalism needed. He's been around long enough and his self produced debut album "Brother Rabbit Speaks" was created in 1992 which showed the self motivated and self produced quality that Peter has in his pocket. To get an idea of his sound, think Newton Faulkner but a bit less rhythmic and more melodic approach while his singing voice is more mature and consistently boasts top notch lyrics. Peter has a showman feel [...]

Back Tracks I felt like droppin something older today with some quick tunes from Tigerbass . Everything is new new new and whats next but we need to stop and smell the bass roses. Tigerbass has defined the bassline ghetto house movement with releases from DTL, Kid 606, Black Rabbit, Drop The Lime, and C.L.A.W.S. I wanted to focus on two of my favorites with....
