A heroic bill indeed: where else will you find The Automatic, Gabrielle, Lulu and Ironik on the same bill? Leave aside the question of whether you'd want to - it's for charity.

Fleet Foxes at 2008 Capitol Hill Block Party Photo : Drake LeLane Drake was out at the CHBP last year , and if he can find a good babysitter, he should be back again in 2009 (but this time with his elbows deep in the pit). Anyway, here's what the initial (but quite deep) lineup for this year's Capitol Hill Block Party ( July 24 - 25th, Seattle, WA ) looks like: Sonic Youth, The Jesus Lizard, The [...]

Blakes showcase new song off of new album The Blakes have been treating fans at SWSX to a handful of new songs off their upcoming album. Following up their eponymously named 2007 album, the new record will reported drop in May of 2009. Posted below is "Monkey", a track from their new album. Enjoy: MP3: The Blakes - "Monkey" (Unreleased) Blakes Tour Dates [...]

This week Drake shines the spotlight on his native Seattle, featuring two acts from his hometown and one from his home label. While I kind of disagree with him a little about Face Control , (I'm still more of a Plague Park man myself), it's a bit of a moot point, as I wouldn't really rank either as desert island material. The new one from Anni Rossi on the other hand, could easily make my year end list (which I usually don't actually do), and as a result, I'll be posting a little [...]

Snow and Garnet Keim's new project, and The Blakes' new tour/EP Well it's been a very busy month for brothers Keim and The Blakes. Earlier this week, Snow and Garnet released the debut album for their new musical vehicle, BEADS , entitled No One Knows . Check them out at their MySpace page to hear four songs. While there's no scheduled tour for BEADS, last night The Blakes kicked off their North American tour in Portland and announced this after the show: We had one of [...]

Thorns of Life have selected legendary producer, J. Robbins ( Jawbox, Burning Airlines, Dismemberment Plan, Jawbreaker ) to record their debut. In case you have been sleeping for the last year, Thorns of Life is a punk rock supergroup featuring Blake Schwazenbach ( Jawbreaker, Jets to Brazil ), Aaron Cometbus ( Crimpshine, Pinhead Gunpowder ) and actress Daniela Shea (featured on shows like The L Word ). I personally cannot wait till this record comes out. If you can't wait for the full length [...]

Besides for Blake's origins in the UK and being signed to Scion records , we pretty much know nothing about him. What we do know is that he makes heavy bass-driven electro tracks with heavy dub influence. Tonight's track is off of his Outlaw EP , joined by similar jams "Outlaw" and "Minority." Scion describes "Leave Us Alone" as an "ominous, rumbling b-line, neck-snapping drums and laser sonics set the scene for a trip to a dark, threatening dystopia, all sweeping searchlights, checkpoints and [...]

I should be getting tired of this but I have More Amy and Blake news. Last week, Amy Winehouse's mother-in-law said her junkie-making son, Blaaaaake, should get $4.4 million, at the very least, in a divorce settlement. I'm seeing a lot of gold diggers out and about. And what's worse is that she's asking for more! According to her, Blake was offered 5K by someone 'close' to Amy to arrange a hit on one of the songstress' drug dealer. Yeah right! Mommy talked to the gossip rag News of the World and revealed this latest [...]

Prior to the band's conception, brothers Garnet and Snow Keim had busked around the country writing music in the late '90s, ultimately leading them to Seattle, WA . The band formed in 2001 when the Keim brothers were served coffee by their future drummer, Bob Husak, in a local Seattle coffeehouse ( Tully's ). Named after a dream that bassist Snow Keim experienced involving an encounter with 18th century English poet William Blake in a metal shop, The Blakes moved to Los Angeles and began their musical career, playing shows and living for nearly two years in a [...]

photo cred: Ben Haley After catching local Seattle act The Blakes open for the Toadies last Friday at the Showbox, I decided that I should waste some time today at work and give these dudes a Wikipedia page (I was surprised they didn't have one already). While the band probably doesn't need my help to get them more exposure (they landed a Gap commercial featuring their song "Magic" back in February), hopefully it steers a few more fans their way. View the page [...]

Last weekend, Victoria, British Columbia played host to the first annual Rifflandia Music Festival . While not quite reaching the same echelon as some of the summer's other major festivals, Rifflandia's jam-packed, indie-friendly lineup combined with its unique presentation certainly served for one hell of a weekend. Thankfully, Colin Coulter was there to take it in for us... Victoria is a city of only 330,000 people, and has a reputation as a haven for the "newly wed" and "nearly dead." So when word came that Canada's Garden City would be the latest Pacific Northwest location [...]
Song obsessions are those songs that we listen to on repeat. I noticed that my obsessions are often a week long. I also thought that other people might have similar obsessions. I've collected a panel of a few like-minded individuals and gotten their "song obsessions of the week." Quite often it's easy to explain why the song is good; it's much hard to explain why we're obsessed. Maybe you'll become obsessed with one of these. - Adrian ( me ): KiD CuDi - the Prayer (mp3) ( [...]

Blood Brothers Make Grave? Pretty Girls Make Blood Brothers? Nah. Jaguar Love . Their full length album hits the shelves/servers in less than one month (August 19th). It is entitled Take Me To The Sea . And if you have not heard "Bats Over The Pacific Ocean" yet, I implore you to click here . The album art looks like this: Listen to one of my favorite tracks from Take Me To The Sea : [...]
