The Blank Tapes are all set to rock one of downtown San Jose's newest venues, Café Stritch , on Friday. Billed as a FanimeCon after-party, the show features The Blank Tapes as the headliner, with the more geek-appropriate Slime Girls supporting. No need to go back to the hotel and change in between – press materials stress that costumes are welcome. Oh, and B T dubs, it’s free. The Blank Tapes recently released Vacation on Oakland’s Antenna Farm Records. You can (and should) buy it here . Check [...]
The quintessentially Californian four-piece kept the sun shining long after it had set in the Mission.

Over the last decade, Matt Adams has been recording lo-fi pop tunes as The Blank Tapes on his trusty eight track. Originally from Southern California, Matt has since taken his vintage vibe up north to San Francisco. The band's latest record, Vacation , is their first for Oakland imprint Antenna Farm Records , and their first recorded with the aid of an actual studio. Matt recently brought his band to DC, and joined us during an amazing spring day out on the patio of The Lodge. Check out the band as they [...]
Matt Costa plays in his hometown during the tour of his self-titled album.

Live This Month: May 2013 — an audio guide through SF concerts this month (Podcast #305) In Live This Month , we sample some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing in the coming month in the San Francisco Bay Area. Few recent artists have transitioned from lo-fi to hi-fi better than Kurt Vile , whose latest album, Wakin on a Pretty Daze , is another winner from the Philly-based musician, full of long, languid songs that feel spacious but not aimless. [...]
Today's music meant to call you back. Enjoy. : Mr Little Jeans - Oh Sailor : It seems like Mr Little Jeans has put herself in a good spot in 2013. She was announced as part of the Iron Man 3 soundtrack (along with acts like Passion Pit and Neon Trees), and now there's this slick single off her own upcoming full length. The LP is expected out this summer. : The Blank Tapes - Holy Roller : Here's a wonderfully jangly piece of retro pop to help get your Monday going. [...]

Particularly loving California today? Then you'll have to make sure you crank up the Blank Tape s' latest single "Holy Roller." Matt Adams, the brainchild behind the psychedelic trio (which includes Pearl Charles and D.A. Humphrey) continues to dispense sunny '60s vibes, and this track suggests the days of touring the country in VW vans with peace signs painted on the sides. Appropriately titled "Vacation," the Blank Tapes' new record is an ode to their trek back to SoCal, where Adams spend his time when he's not up in the Bay Area. It's the first album recorded outside of his [...]
As we enter the warm-weathered months of summer, Matt Costa and The Blank Tapes will be providing the perfect music for tonight's show. Singer-songwriter Matt [...]

Matt Adams, the brainchild behind The Blank Tapes , is set to release his sophomore full length, Vacation, May 14 on Antenna Farm Records. The first single, "Coast to Coast," is perfect for scratching your summertime itch: a laid-back, sparkling tune for breezing down the PCH with all your friends in tow. Culling from the classic sun-drenched Southern California songbook, Adams is carving out his own piece of this resurgent landscape. With Beach Boys-inspired harmonies and a splash of groovy psych/surf moments, this is a delightful pop tune that will leave a smile on your face and an unexplainable [...]
Sunny SoCal indie pop outfit The Blank Tapes pull into town tonight to play The Mod Club opening for Matt Costa. The band release their first proper full length album, Vacation , on May 14th. The group have a sound that the New Yorker describe as: "...like The Archies if Lou Reed has written their songs." That paints a pretty awesome picture. Listen to "Coast To Coast" here:
The Blank Tapes aka Matt Adams looks as if he's taken a page from the 19702s with his long hair and vintage style, and musically he's decided [...]

San Francisco's rocker Ash Reiter has been touring all over the several months with her band in support of their latest effort, HOLA . The underrated album, drenched in heavy California sunshine, was released last fall and can be purchased here . During the touring, Reiter found time to record a cover of Bob Seger's coming-of-age song "Night Moves" with the help of her friends The Blank Tapes' Matt Adams & DA Humphrey and Amber Gougis. "Night Moves" is one of three covers [...]

Every SXSW ends up with the same dilemma for a writer, of how to really enjoy one’s self and see good bands while still writing down what you see. And the answer is that you can’t be in all places at all times. So it was with a heavy heart that I missed the Grand Ole Echo showcase so I could interview Dead Angle and eat some deliciousness at Counter Culture. I tell ya, nothing lightens a heavy heart like some jalapeno cornbread. One [...]
The Blank Tapes “Coast to Coast” b/w “All the Girls in the World” Antenna Farm “All the Girls in the World” is not just an homage to the females of the species, it’s a nice blend of all pop songs about girls—I hear snippets of everything from “California Girls” to the Real Kids’ “All Kindsa Girls” to Cheap Trick’s “Summer Girls,” with the tempo and aggression pulled back for allowing your lazy summer day to get even lazier. But “Coast to Coast” is the hit here, a beautiful summer California tune [...]
We began the week with widgeted ditties courtesy of Bandcamp. To forfend jealousy from Soundcloud, we post the following loved ones. (These widget sites can wax pretty green, or so we've read/heard/fabricated.) Our Testing Lab reports that that first widget, of The Blank Tapes, doesn't show "Download," at least not yet. If you want the load, click here. Likewise with the Colleen Green song, so

Over the next 10 days, more than a quarter-million of motivated artists and industry personnel will descend upon Austin. New York musicians will speed 26 hours and 1,500 miles to Texas’s capital, while Los Angeles filmmakers will make the three-hour flight into Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Some start-ups will walk to the festival, while other musicians will travel halfway around the globe. They all come for one purpose: the 27th annual South By Southwest . The 10-day festival, which includes music, film, and interactive segments, unites credential-wearing hordes in a party-hopping, buzz-building extravaganza. Some registrants will partake in [...]
