I spent some time this weekend in Vegas at the insanely fun Hard Rock Hotel. You know you are in the right place when you can play a Munsters slot machine or black jack at a Cheap Trick table while Wolfmother and Led Zep play on the overhead... I spent some time poolside with the iPod on listening to tons of new stuff, most of which I think you need to hear. So here's another burned cd's worth
Friday was a wonderful night for the RMDS crew as we were lucky enough to see the opening leg of the Architecture in Helsinki tour. Although the evening was dampered slightly by missing band members and some unpolished/missing songs, AIH and The Blow beamed of excitement as they jammed all night long, debuting their new songs. The Blow When Khaela Maricich of The Blow got on stage to begin her

The coolest news around these parts this weekend is my newfound ability to bring music to any room in my house with the new iSphere that my folks got me as a belated birthday present! I love hearing the bass, cranking it loud directly from my iPod, and being able to cruise through my playlists whatever I am doing. It vastly improves upon my previous system of bringing my laptop wherever I wanted to listen to tunes, or being reclusive and putting in the earbuds. Yay! I think you should get one, definitely the [...]

Blow, The : Pile of Gold (Paper Television, 2006) Emmon : Down Below (7", 2006) Good Heart Boutique : Give a Cry (Fantastic Fan, 2006) Made Out of Babies : Mr. Prison Shanks (Coward, 2006) Miss Kenichi : Arrived (Collision Time, 2006)

I'm still in a bit of catch-up mode with writing anything here but I figured i'd go ahead and mention The Blow here even though they've been heavily discussed in a number of other blogs already. Plus, i've been playing the hell out of these two songs for the past couple of weeks and they have yet to sound stale or redundant to met yet. I think that's what the appeal is for me about this band is that the songs are so simple with those hooks that manage to find their [...]
Don't let the picture disturb you. The Blow aren't scary people. On the contrary, Khaela Maricich sings some of the nicest pop melodies you've ever heard while Jona Bechtolt spraypaints a musical backdrop filled with fun dance-worthy jams. And the best news is that these two Oregonians(?!) are set to release their new full length album Paper Television on K Records Ocotober 24th! The album's
The Blow-Parentheses I'm kind of mad at you guys. How did I go a week or something without this song? And nobody told me how awesome it was? There were no e-mails sent to me saying "OMG this song is amazing" or "this song makes me feel silly and grammatical and I don't care" with the song in the attachments? Oh well I'm over that now and I'm here to tell YOU how amazing this song is. Forget
Um pequeno registo para este pequeno filme de animação [Blow ], cheio de significado. Uma crítica, um olhar . Tags: Blow , Internet

The Blow are indie pop music (I guess). And yes, their website is located at the blow dot us . Listen to The Blow: "Pile Of Gold" (mp3) Myspace page is here . K Recs page is here . Emusic page is here .

today i am waiting to be able to go to work so i can be ready to start work for real in a few weeks. problem is, i have to sit here at my house and wait for the lovely folks from purolator to deliver my laptop from dell, and they really don't say when they might be here. (to be honest, the website kept telling me it was supposed to be here yesterday, but we all know that the internet doesn't think labour day should be a holiday). thankfully, the finance dept at dell is all good, seeing as [...]

I think the main motivation behind naming your band the Blow is that if someone tries to be clever and say "The Blow blows! Haha!" their 'diss' or 'zing' will be overshadowed by the retardedness of what they just said. Whether or not this is the real reason behind the Portland duo's name is beside the point; this is my story and I'm going to stick to it until the end of the line. Moving on...one thing you must know about the Blow is that their singer is a woman named Khaela [...]
The Blow Hello out there in the world, girls, boys, men, women, others, VIDEOS! We need simple little videos! From you. You you you in your world that we know nothing about. We are trying to get 25 little mini music videos for use in the upcoming tour. We want them to play on a screen while we sing the new song "Pile of Gold." They can be really simple. The kind of thing you make in one day, or in two. Which is convenient, because [...]
The Blow-Pile of Gold Submit videos here. PS Why did no one tell me how amazing "Parentheses" is??
Special is as special does. Or at least that's what we usually think. Last night's "Special 5th Wednesday!" set was to have an inspired beginning featuring Erasure's cover of ABBA's "Voulez-Vous" back to back with the original, but when we got started, the mixer wasn't on, someone had been using the crossfader on the CD deck, and our ability to check connections and levels was impeded by Chain Drive staff who were very helpfully covering for us because of our unintentionally late arrival. (Sorry, our dear Friends of Judy; we were each waylaid separately by the PBS documentary on [...]
Busy, busy, busy-my apologies. From Philly to Brooklyn in 30 days is quite the maneuver for me, I'll admit that. I'll pop in sporadically over the next few days to drop some quickies on you, though, so don't worry. We have an ace (and accomplished) reviewer joining the team who will be introduced tomorrow. Tonight he is off to cover the Flaming Lips show so we should have some pics and thoughts up tomorrow. But today-ah yes-today. I must run but I'll leave a few gems for you to [...]

It's the end of August... I'll post something else a little later, maybe. [01] Doctor Blind :: Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton Emily Haines has been on my radar for a while. Her solo stuff(Knives Don't Have Your Back) is nice but some of her lyrics make me cringe like I'm embarassed or something. She did the same thing in some Metric songs. This song is pretty much my favorite on the album. [02] [...]

I don't know who the man in this photo is but I think he looks pretty pimpin' -- he's got the whole Goodfellas thing going on from the waist up. He's even rocking a vanity cane. Fom the waist down, he looks like he's ready to run a 10K marathon. * Just a quick little post today to tide you over till the next episode. (God knows when that might be.) I've been obsessive about a couple of remixes from French duo Cassius (a.k.a. Zdar and Boombass). "Toop Toop" is an infectious little treat [...]

The Blow I'm sure you're all well aware of my excitement over the upcoming Joanna Newsom record by now, but another upcoming release that I'm just as excited about is The Blow 's Paper Television . I'm sure most of you, just like me, have already listened to "Pile of Gold" a million times, but if you're still now convinced that Paper Televison is going to one of the most awesome records of the year, check out this equally magnificent [...]

Oh yay for The Blow . I believe "Pile Of Gold" is already sitting on like fifty other music blogs which leads me to believe that I probably can't add much to the collective chorus of praises. I can say "Poor Aim: Love Songs" is perhaps one of my all time favorite EPs. I have listened to it like fifty billion times on repeat. "Pile Of Gold" off of The Blows new album seems to be pretty much on par with that. So, yeah. I'm like totally psyched for Paper Television . You should be too. [...]
Indie rock lives and dies in the voice of Portastatic's, Mac McCaughan, a striking sound, one you wish you could make, so you turn up the volume and sing along. McCaughan shows a talent for crafting the sounds of words, not only their meaning, in the song, "Sour Shores". portastatic + sour shores [mp3] eric bachmann + carrboro Woman [mp3] eric bachmann + lonesome Warrior [mp3] portastatic + sour
