Crushed Stars ' album In the Bright Rain has been haunting me for past two months. Based on the music and the photo on the inner sleeve Todd Gautreau is a dour fellow, but he does dour with class. Gautreau who is 90% of Crushed Stars has created a low-key masterpiece that combines the melancholy bookishness of Lloyd Cole , the cascading guitars of Felt and the refined elegance of the Blue Nile . He writes, sings and plays most everything except for drums where he employs the help Jeff Ryan of War on [...]

Paul Buchanan , the lead singer of one of my favorite groups, The Blue Nile , returns on May 21 with his first solo album, Mid Air. It's also the first proper music we've heard from Paul since his band's last album, 2004's High . Here is what he says about the new music: I think if I'd tried to make a record that sounds like [...]

One of my all time favourites. Powerful stuff.
After spending the summer as a duo specializing in fuzzed-out ambient/acoustic drone suites performed on dozens of prepared synthesizers, Native America 's Saturday night return to the stage as a three-piece rock outfit did nothing if not show the versatility of lead singer and renaissance man Ross Farbe's hardly-can-be-considered-a-sid e-project-anymore side project. What started as a one-man experiment in field recording and space-folk during downtime from his gig as Sun Hotel's multi-instrumentalist and home-studio engineer emerged this weekend as a drum-tight psychedelic power-pop machine, knocking out a bouncy set of dream-like rippers custom-tailored for the challenging [...]
Having recently signed to Glassnote Records, perhaps their debut album In Light could round out a trio of slow-growing commercial sensations for the star-making label following Phoenix's Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix and Mumford & Son's Sigh No More the last couple years. Regardless of where this band goes, it appears that South Louisiana's indie cred continues to grow with bands like Givers and the Generationals getting more and more attention these days.

Yesterday , we caught up with Wild Beasts for some words. Today, they express themselves through song, although not their own. Tom Fleming from Wild Beasts provided us with a few quick song picks and commentary. Be sure to check out Wild Beasts live this Saturday at the 9:30 Club , tickets available HERE . MP3: The Blue Nile - "A Walk Across The Rooftops" This record was only made to demonstrate the equipment it was made on. Unbelievable. Gorgeous, abstract, redolent of a time [...]
Versatile singer-songwriter and Broadway composer Duncan Sheik releases 'Covers 80s' a collection of British synthpop tunes that he loved as a teenager.
Hopefully by now you've heard Smother , the third album from Wild Beasts. As with all their records, it feels like it comes out of nowhere. And as always, I have trouble finding reference points to give people when recommending them (Antony? Talking Heads?). That's why I asked the band to talk about some of the albums and songs they listened to while writing and recording it, as well as some of the bands that inspired them when they started. Bassist/vocalist Tom Fleming created this list on behalf of Wild Beasts, though it includes some [...]
LMB NOLA: Recently, Big Head Todd and the Monsters played a wake-up song for the astronauts on the Discovery shuttle (becoming the first band to wake up the astronauts with a live song). A lot of your music as a solo artist, with the Duo and on the new Garage A Trois album seems tailor-made to to beam out to the space walkers and aliens. If you were gonna play a tune to blast out into the galaxy, what would it be? MARCO: "The Real Morning Party"
