Several Chicago rockers are banding together at Lincoln Hall on Thursday, Sept. 1, for raise money for Girls Rock! Chicago . Mike Kinsella, of such revered emo groups Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc and Owen - just to name a few, will join Braid frontman Bob Nanna, Fall Out Boy's Joe Trohman, Spitalfield's Mark Rose, The Felix Culpa's Dustin Currier and Weekend Nachos' Drew Brown on stage to perform as 80s pop legends The Cure. This isn't the first time Kinsella has assembled friends to cover a uber-popular 80s artist for a Girls [...]

I'm a fan of creative and innovative takes on music. Do some approaches just baffle me, like "How on earth did they come up with that choice?" Indeed. an 8th grade choir covering a song about fellatio for instance. Or a glee club covering a punk song like Fugazi's "Waiting Room." Blue Ribbon Glee Club out of Chicago, are a "punk rock glee club" and they cover stuff like Fugazi, The Pixies, T. Rex, and others. That's right kids, you can buy a Ramones shirt at Urban Outfitters and punk has now gone [...]
Chicago's Blue Ribbon Glee Club has recorded an amazing version of "Waiting Room" by Fugazi. You can watch the video below. (Thanks Freddie and Lia!) » E-Mail This » Add to Del.icio.us

With the recent popularity of the cheeseball Glee television program it seems that everyone's inner geek is suddenly rising to the surface. All of a sudden it's not gay or uber-dorky to admit one's affinity for watching melodramatic teens sing their adolescent frustrations out in 5th period glee club. It is also for some reason unbeknown to this writer perfectly acceptable to use the forum of Twitter to express ones excitement each week's episode, or to take the whole debacle a step further by live-tweeting while watching episodes. But I digress. The specatcle that is [...]
THE BLUE RIBBON GLEE CLUB , one of me personal favorite punk cover choirs (like there's a bunch of those), have a new 7" coming out and here's a video for their cover of 'California Uber Alles' by the DEAD KENNEDYS. It's just too good not to post.

We're kinda becoming synonymous for posting these chilled down covers. This one however is pure brilliance! The Blue Ribbon Glee club made up by 40+ Chicago hipsters recreate The Pixies - Where Is My Mind purely via acapella. I always had this mindset that great songs should be left great aka un-touched/remixed/covered. If you can't do it better why do it at all? The Blue Ribbon Glee club, turned me around: The Blue Ribbon Glee Club - Where Is My Mind? (Pixies Cover) www.myspace.com/theblueribbong leeclub [...]
I was afraid that Chicago's Blue Ribbon Glee Club might be a bit too precious for me to appreciate, but I gotta say, this stuff made me crack a big ol' smile. Blue Ribbon Glee Club - Where Is My Mind? (The Pixies) Plus Also: Blue Ribbon Glee Club - Waiting Room (Fugazi).

Day 2 at Hideout was great, even for the little bit that I got to enjoy (and in spite of Michigan getting crushed). True to form, I arrived late, delayed by tennis and college football. The Wolverines have gone from bad to dreadful; it was so painful to watch them. Back to the main topic... When I arrived, The Blue Ribbon Glee Club was on stage. They are a curious Chicago-based group who
