About a month ago, a great remix album was released- Nat King Cole: Re: Generations . It features classic Nat King Cole songs remixed by a number of great artists like The Roots, Cee-Lo, Bebel Gilberto, Stephen and Damien Marley, Cut Chemist, Brazilian Girls, Nas & Salaam Remi, and TV on the Radio. It's an unbelievable remix album. When I talk with people who think classic songs should be left alone, I'll be sure to bring up this album to show them why I disagree. [...]
When my friend and I heard the Blue Van , we were sure they were an American band. For sure an American band heavily influenced by the band of the 60s. Boy were we wrong. The Blue Van is a band from Denmark. We were way off mark. Fun fact about this band, they named themselves after the blue van ("Den blå varevogn") that collects the mentally ill in Denmark. Funny. And so, here I am listening to the collectors of the mentally ill. I'm pretty sure [...]

Here is a remix I found in my inbox the other day. I had never heard of The Blue Van but after checking them out on Myspace they seem pretty cool. They have a pretty big following in Europe and were recently nominated for Break Through Artists of the Year in Denmark's version of the grammys. Anyway check out the bands myspace and check out this remix by NYC locals Streetlab and Sean MF'n Roberts.... ---[ The Blue Van - MAn Up (Streetlab vs. Sean MF'n Roberts mix) ]--- [...]
(photo by Toshika Horita) Here's the situation on The Blue Van . They're a band (obvs.). They're from Denmark and they play throwback rock music a la America's yesteryear. The Blue Van were also just up for "Breakthrough Artist Of The Year" in Denmark's version of the Grammys a few weeks ago, where they performed a song on the show . You may have also heard their tracks in ads for T-Mobile and in-program cues in "Scrubs" and the new "90210". We say all of this because, well, there's way more to this band than just [...]
If you find yourself relentlessly humming bits to The Blue Van's new track "Silly Boy" every time you see the new Samsung phone commercial like I do then this video should help (or I suppose it may only exacerbate the problem). View at your own risk as these Danes have produced a severely catchy track. I will have to admit that it while it was most definitely not Samsung's goal, they only made me more attached to my iPhone, as it was it's beloved (and extraordinarily helpful) Shazam application that helped me [...]

"I have love. Oh, I will travel." I really have to cut down on saying how surprised I am by certain aspects of some band. It may have gotten to the point where some of you out there might think I have a constant look of shock on my face. Honestly though, these guys just aren't something I would stamp "Danish" all over. On the other hand, I have no idea what I would stamp "Danish" all over, save for maybe...a viking? Based out of Copenhagen, however, The [...]

I've actually been meaning to post about The Blue Van for almost two years. However, I kept forgetting or putting it off. This actually happens with a lot of stuff. The Blue Van is just the worst example of it. To combat this problem, I've actually started keeping a pad of paper on my desk to write down things I want to post about. Sometimes I feel like the guy in Memento with no short-term memory. Regardless, back to The Blue Van. These garage rockers hail from the [...]

With a Motown drumbeat, a fantastic 60's backup feel, and high energy throughout, this song makes me wanna dance. And when I say dance, I mean in that totally geeky way that only the rhythmically challenged can accomplish. Yes, you know who you are. Thank god this band isn't rhythmically challenged, but gifted. I've been playing this one over and over, and so will you. As soon as you download it. Get on it! You don't wanna leave me blue, do ya? Download " Don't Leave Me Blue " (MP3, 192kbps) BUY THIS ALBUM [...]
There was a time years ago when Rock & Roll was blossoming. It was fueled by R 'n' B and the Blues. Bands exploding were The Beatles, The Kinks, Cream, The Rolling Stones. . .with R 'n' B and Blues inspired riffs. And there was the Hammond B3. This gave a [...]

Fresh off of ACL Fest in our sister city of Austin, we have a festival heavy week here in the Baltimore Region. I have been tipped off on 4 festivals for this upcoming weekend. In addition, there are several other shows this week that are not festival related. The week starts off Tuesday with Chicago's Catfish Haven bringing their soulful sound to Black Cat . Wednesday brings New London Fire , [...]

Since I'm finally able to announce the super secret act on the bill, I thought the NY readers of WNR might like to know about this hell of a show happening tonight. My local favorites Tigercity will be playing along with Denmark beauties The Blue Van at The Annex . Doors open at 8pm with Normandy starting the night off. After the show's over, we'll be moving the afterparty down the street to my bi-weekly, MANIFESTO! . [...]
Hello all. The Rock'n'Roll Star has asked me, as a fellow band member, to contribute a summer mix for your listening pleasure. I have to say it is way intimidating to follow the most EXCELLENT mix by Adidas1, but I'll give it a whirl. So The Rock'n'Roll Star is the new music expert. Adidas1 is the Worldbeat and Hip-Hop master. What do I know? Well, give a listen and leave a comment, because I have no idea. I think I like driving guitars and shiny pop, but it's still [...]
