The Brighton Port Authority was an outfit who built a huge word-of-mouth reputation on England's south coast from the early 1970s before petering out in the mid-'90s. From what can be pieced together, they were a loose-limbed jamming unit. At its core were musicians Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim) and Simon Thornton, who gathered various singers and session men around them, built the rather ramshackle BPA studio, and would occasionally hold multi-day warehouse parties from which their semi-legendary reputation stems. The BPA's modus operandi appears to have been to convene for sessions at times pre-agreed according to astrological [...]

White Lies ' debut album, To Lose My Life , has gone straight to the top of UK charts. The band has up and reinvented itself completely having been previously incarnated as Fear of Flying, a more poppish band. White Lies invokes the familiar broodish sounds of Joy Division a la The Killers but done so much better, in fact millions of times better. To Lose My Life has found it's place in regulary rotation on my iPod/laptop with its infectious hooks and ruddy bass lines. This [...]

I have been hearing good things about Emma-Lee Moss, aka Emmy The Great for the past few months or so. I was told that her style is similar to acts such as Laura Marling and Johnny Flynn. So, being a fan of both and the UK folk/anti-folk scene, I decided to check out Emmy The Great's soon to be released record, First Love . After spending much of my weekend listening to it, I have officially fallen in love with Emmy The Great! First Love is just full of incredible songs. "Absentee", "The Easter Parade", and "City [...]

Sunday Post I'd like to start off the Sunday Post with a shout out to everybody at Lo-Pub and the Goodform guys Jamall Knight and Mike B that allowed us to treat the dancefloor to a sensual electro massage last Thursday. Sam Roberts and The Stills were on hand as part of their afterparty whilst on tour in Winnipeg which gave the show a touch of celebrity. All in all many drinks flowed and the Lo-Pub once again redeemed itself as Winnipeg's best [...]

Just repeat after me, I will execute the weekend faithfully, wait, I mean, I will faithfully execute the weekend. Uh, whatever. So help me, Bud! Here's the first new feature we promised for the new year and we don't take them oaths lightly here. So, we've cooked up some brand new tunes this week along with a few not so fresh ones we found under the couch cushions in between the Milk Duds, popcorn and, oh yeah, bottle caps. Load up your iPod with these before you [...]

The BPA is the new alias that Norman Cook a.k.a Fatboy Slim uses these days. His new album 'I Think We're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat' is out on February 3rd. In the meantime enjoy the typically awesome Twelves remix of the new single "He's Frank" which features Iggy Pop (most recently seen advertising Car Insurance) on vocals. The BPA - He's Frank ft. He is creepy but there's no doubt that he is totally an icon. This is the brand new video for "He's Frank (Slight Return) by The Brighton Port Authority featuring Iggy Pop. He's not naked & covered by censor bars, but even as a puppet, Iggy Pop is such a badass that the puppeteers can't control him! Now, I featured one video already for this song but it was for a club mix, this is the original version that you'll find in The BPA's debut album I Think We're Gonna Need A Bigger [...]

Ho my god. I love jumping on a new Twelves mix. They deliver every damn time and keep stepping up their game. Why aren't they big yet? Like Justice big? The BPA ft. Iggy Pop - He's Frank (The Twelves Remix) MYSPACE

This is the 2nd post about The BPA's "He's Frank" track... but now I've got the full video and a grip of wicked remixes for you! I've got these in .wav right now and you better bet they're gonna be my indie dance crossover slam dunk when I'm DJing! Iggy Pop's voice is not one you forget, or ignore... Speaking of... I watched Trainspotting the other day and of course there's all that talk about Iggy Pop (and "Lust For Life" of course)... and it triggered memories of seeing him [...]

Norman Cook seems, by now, to have had more musical modes and eras than Madonna. He started in The Housemartins, spent a fair portion of his life as Fatboy Slim, and has played around with Beats International and Freak Power in between. Now he's started up a little project by the name of The BPA (which is short for The Brighton Port Authority, so yer knows). Personally, this looks to be his

Long time ago, that Anavan sent some stuff around. Fresh in 09 they're dating your screen with their latest flex "Rollah", a hard-bitten drink to sip. Stretch your arms, this one is perfect for 24/7 weightlifting and salsa-dancing with the Swiss Guard in Austria. It was going to be a remix for the song ToeJam ft. Byrne and Rascal , but it ended up in a Anavan-original using Dizzees vox. Push push! Mp3: Anavan - The BPA ToeJam (Rollah Rmx)

I've been waiting for this EP for a bit. I have to pat myself on the back for initially introducing Junclassic to J. Slikk and getting that Jun/ BPA thing rolling. This is the product of networking and quality Hip-Hop music. A shared love of ill beats and thought-provoking lyrics. Entirely produced by Slikk and Cynergy Soundz , this EP is something to keep you warm while the hawk is out... DOWNLOAD Tracklist: [...]
For most of us, it's cold, snowy, and downright miserable outside. But in many respects, this week is also one of celebration. For one, we're currently taking in the sights and sounds of Chicago's Tomorrow Never Knows Festival , and if you've been reading our coverage, you'll know it's been unbelievably awesome. But that's really only the beginning, as in the coming hours and days, we'll be unveiling a few more goodies that would warm even the coldest of souls. So until then, sit back, relax, and enjoy this week's edition of our Friday Mixtape. TNK Fun: [...]
