Two legends of powerpop Peter Case and Paul Collins , from playing in bands like The Nerves, The Beat, The Plimsouls and The Breakaways, played their hearts out to a happy audience at Rhythm Room, PHX last night. I didn't take notes, but Collins and Case played their guitars like it was 1978 again. They sounded great, all four band members vocals were clear (though Collins was having some monitor issues on his side of things), and the rhythm section pumped up the beat sweetly. [...]
Newt may seemingly have Mitt on the ropes right now, but that's no reason to hold up your Pit Romney coverage! Here's the latest update on the hardcore festival season... After a 2011 announcement that didn't exactly thrill me, United Blood seems to have rebounded for 2012, if this initial lineup is any indication. Big [...]

Seattle art-rap duo Shabazz Palaces recorded a set for The Guardian's "How We Wrote" video series which allows artists to talk about the origins of the song they're about to play, ala VH-1 Storytellers. The duo performs "Bronny On A Breakaway" - a bonus track from their Sub Pop release "Black Up." Shabazz Palaces Official Site [...]
The Guardian 's "How We Wrote" video series exists so that artists can talk about a song's creative genesis before performing that song. The latest entry stars Seattle art-rap duo Shabazz Palaces, and it focuses on their wildly oscillating Black Up bonus track "Bronny On A Breakaway." The story behind the song is sort of fun (it was mostly created via outgoing voicemail message), but the real reason to watch the video is the chance to see the group's makeshift electro-percussive setup in action. Also, it's easier to see how hard Palaceer Lazaro is rapping when he's sneering [...]
Norman Doray unleashes a heavy dose of progressive fire on Tawiah's "Breakaway." This a situation where you have an upbeat bassline blended with some of the best synths in the business. Tawiah's voice takes this track to whole new " Le7els ," which leads us to believe that this could be the best vocals since Adele's "Rolling In The Deep." Imagine yourself on the beach in some exotic location listening to Norman dropping this. Pretty damn good right? We look forward to seeing Norman sometime soon, he just made a splash at XS Nightclub in Vegas this past [...]
Big year for France. David Guetta , Arno Cost , Tristan Garner , Gregori Klosman and others have reminded us that their country is a house mecca. Norman Doray has quietly lead his own successful 2011 campaign. With his appearance on the ' One Look ' remix package and the end-of-the-summer release, ' Kalifornia ', he whisked back on to the scene with progressive dance tracks that have lit up dance floors all around the world. His latest release, 'Breakaway' showcases his dance-warehouse sound. Check out the girls [...]

Lapalux manages to fit a whole lot into a dance track. Take this edit of British soulstress Tawiah's "Breakaway" as an example, where you get about a minute of semi coherence and intact vocals before everything erupts out of dingy darkness and cascades haphazardly joyous percussion all over your face in a slightly sexually charged manner. Clocking in at just four minutes, it feels like waking up from a dream that felt like a lifetime. Highly recommended for fans of that weird Boiler Room music. Taiwah - Breakaway [...]

Lapalux, a producer out of Essex UK, takes fellow Briton Tawiah's "Breakaway" for a spin here positively blows the doors from the track. Lapalux comes with a really special remix, blending layer upon layer of disparate yet complementary sound together to create something that is really really moving. Feel like making your Tues afternoon more moving? more precise? more emotionally connected? Spin below. Tawiah - Breakaway (Lapalux Remix) Tip to Abeano Music Lapalux ( Official ) ( Facebook ) [...]

It's time to listen to a bunch of the tracks I have not posted recently. Here is the next NOT POSTED mix. Some people go with no introduction. I've been a fan of Paul Collins Beat since the album first came out in high school. It was a staple on my turntable through college, and it's never left. Needless to say, I had to fan myself like an excited schoolgirl about to meet the cast of Twilight, when Paul Collins stopped by, plopped himself on the red leather interview couch and talked a spell. When I was a kid, [...]

Power pop missing link between the Nerves, Beat and Plimsouls Hot on the heels of Alive's first-ever formal reissue of the Nerves EP and a rare live set , comes this volume of demos cut by Peter Case and Paul Collins in between the demise of the Nerves and the formation of their respective bands, the Plimsouls and the Beat. As with the Nerves, Collins started out on drums and Case on bass, with various guitarists pressed into action for cassette- and home-made reel-to-reel recording sessions. Case and Collins handled the [...]

Today I bring you some of my all time favorite Ed Banger Remixes of tracks from other musicians. These Tracks alone will (hopefully) make you want to dance or at least tap your feet. Lets Begin Shall we? First Off,We have a brilliant Remix form the illustrious and super talented Mr Flash. Though at first i didnt care much for him, His Paranoid Remix by Kanye West (AKA "That Egomaniacal Douchebag ") was Amazing, and as such,I have massive respect for him. This sexy electro makeover actaully makes Kanye West sort of tolerable. Sort Of. A Great remix Nonetheless. [...]
