Not as many new releases as the previous week (good - for my sake), which is fine because there's really only one record you need to pick up this week: M83's Saturdays = Youth . I just picked it up myself this morning off of iTunes, and I cannot wait to sit down and absorb every detail. All of the tracks i've heard so far seem to skew towards an 80's teenage-angst type of movie soundtrack. It's different, but still contains Gonzales' signature shoegazer/electronic touches. Anything else from this batch of releases [...]

It's not quite the overwhelming slate of new releases we had last week, but it's still a pretty solid list. The highlight of the week is probably M83's album Saturday = Youth , It's definitely worth picking up. I'm also eager to hear the Brian Jonestown Massacre's latest as well. So if you're heading down to your local record store grabbing any of these guarantees a pretty safe bet. Let us know if we've left anything off the list. New Releases, Album Art, and MP3's [...]

MP3: Brian Jonestown Massacre - "Yeah - Yeah" from My Bloody Underground, out April 15. Note: the track begins with 30 seconds of silence-no idea why. After that, it's a classic acoustic Anton Newcombe ballad. His voice sounds ragged, scorched,...

I love Brian Jonestown Massacre. I hate this album. And that's really hard, if not heart-breaking, for me to write. Largely anachronistic in the latter half of a decade rife with the vestiges of grunge and the ubiquitous glut of nu metal, BJM emerged in the mid 90's offering something unique, enthralling, sincere. Anton Newcombe has the heart of a street busker, ever eager to share with anyone who wants to listen. Most of the time you do. But something seems lost on My Bloody Underground. The album sounds tired, which is understandable considering the cacophonous [...]

He's been strung out in heaven. He's thanked God for mental illness. He's .. kicked a guy in the head (we've all seen Dig! , some, like yours truly, way too many times.) And now, Anton Newcombe and company have returned with the 13th (!?) Brian Jonestown Massacre album, My Bloody Underground , the first record to be released on Newcombe's A Records imprint on April 15th. The new record fittingly contains 13 new [...]

BJM - during the "Dig" years I am a die hard Brian Jonestown Massacre fan. The documentary "Dig" featuring BJM and The Dandy Warhol's has been put to use, by me, as both a "thermometer" and "prescription". Many a time, when getting into heavy music conversations, with like minded music people, inevitably, i've asked them, "have you seen Dig?", and 3/4 of the true music heads have. On the flipside, when i've encountered someone, who thinks they understand music, and they obviously don't have a clue, I tell them [...]
While we are waiting for the thirteenth(!) full-length Brian Jonestown record to be released on april 15., this video just came in from one of the fanboys. The quality is of course YouTube handheld shite, but you can in fact hear that Anton and the other fools is swinging. I'm just really into BJM at the moment. Their double retrospective Tepid Peppermint Wonderland sums them up so well:

The thirteenth (!) full-length record from crazy ass Anton and his gang of fools , My Bloody Underground , will officially be coming out on April 15 and will, of course, be only marginally listenable. I kid. I kid. The always controversial group hasn't had something new on shelves in almost four years which is ridiculous by Anton's standards, but this disc promises to be yet another outstanding achievement in mental health and hygiene. Tracklist for My Bloody Underground (complete with video interpretations by Anton Newcombe) [...]
If one was to be suckered in by the hyperbole surrounding Radiohead's latest release you could be forgiven for thinking that they are the great innovators (musically certainly but otherwise read on). Up to this point trying to get a worthwhile free download from the Oxford lads would have required a PHD in html mp3 extraction. The truth is that they are the highest profile act to jump on to the

so, friday night lights second season premiered last week & it picked up pretty much where it left off as one of the best shows on television...but i still had a couple issues, most notably, the transition of lovable sidekick landry from geeky comic relief into a semi-serious cast member involved in an over the top movie-of-the-week subplot...what ever happened to his death metal band crucifictorious, i never thought the writers took that storyline far enough...at least buddy garrity's still around to make us laugh...also, how is it that tim riggins, a 17-year-old high school student, is able [...]
Posted by Matt: Remember those? We used to post them all the time. You'd listen, we'd feel superior...that was the MO around here. Lately, its all been about Youtube though....it's just so much easier. The code is right there, no need to google image search and re-size pics, and then link up the files. It's about time to get back on the horse though, so here are few random songs that will make yer day a better place. MP3: Anomoanon [...]

[Photo cred ] With Merry Swankster's Denver contingent still reeling from last night's terrific Okkervil River show, we quickly find ourselves just hours away from Colorado's most anticipated summer event. Today is Red Rocks' big moment in the bright indie rock sun. I understand the layout of the five stages will encompass unique and efficient methods of the Red Rocks arena. From a stage erected at the peak of the amphitheater's top concession area, to a few indoors at the visitor center located in the bowels of the prehistoric rock, and of course [...]
