"Gossip Girl here. Your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite." Now, while your phones may not be constantly ringing with blasts from Gossip Girl covering the latest news regarding Serena (Blake Lively), Blair (Leighton Meester), and their slew of family and friends' privileged lives (flawlessly balanced between turmoil and perfection), the phenomenal soundtrack is sure to stay ringing in your ears. From the drugs and partying to the twisted relationships full of lies, deceit, and love, CW's Gossip Girl has found the ideal tracks to set the backdrop and atmosphere for the fast-pasted, [...]

Back when I started doing these mixes every month, I saw it as a manageable way to keep recommending music without the effort that it takes to do a researched, singular writeup. It seemed to me that picking out 10 random songs wouldn't be all that hard - I always have new things that I'm listening to, as well as my entire musical upbringing to highlight. A part of the experienced mixtaper in me was never satisfied with these as "mixes." For one, there is only so much you can do in 10 songs... they really seemed more like [...]
Back in February, LA locals The Broken Remotes released a single called "Boxer's Arm" -- in December '08 , lead singer Jon Leahy told me he'd broken his arm right before the recording sessions started in December. Ironically enough the name of the fracture was the Boxer's Fracture.I love the mix of urgency and stagnation in the guitars. It sounds like something is trying to build up but

It was a night for big guitars Monday — and, as it happened, big turnouts. The Buzz Bands LA celebration at the Echoplex featured a foursome of bands whose fervent indie rock played well to a crowd that exceeded 400. The Broken Remotes kicked off the night with a set of buzzsaw, rhythm-heavy rockers. Amusement Parks on Fire [with Michael Feerick, above] followed with 35 minutes of gorgeous, gargantuan shoegaze before the Lassie Foundation [with Jeff Schroeder, top photo] took over and fashioned its own pop-leaning wall of sound. Magic Mirror closed [...]

The Buzz Bands-hosted party certainly isn't the only show in town tonight, but, well, for selfish reasons I will tout it first. It's a night of great guitar rock at the Echoplex — doors open at 8:30, with the Broken Remotes playing at 9, Amusement Parks of Fire at 10, the Lassie Foundation [pictured last week at the Viper Room] at 11 and Magic Mirror at 12, with one of my favorite DJs-about-town, Ana Calderon, spinning music in between sets. Watch my Twitter (@krbronson) for an announcement this afternoon about [...]

[File under "self-promotional:"] About nine months ago, to no fanfare whatsoever, I used my laptop and some change rescued from under the seats of my car to launch BuzzBands.LA, a blog that, in a manner, continued the column I did for the Los Angeles Times for seven years. I've been flattered by the attention and support BuzzBands.LA has received, and on Monday, June 15, I'd like to celebrate a little by throwing a party at the Echoplex. There will be four bands playing, DJ Ana Calderon spinning tunes between sets and maybe [...]

The show will feature the best shoegaze LA has to offer including performances from The Broken Remotes , Magic Mirror, Amusement Parks On Fire, and a special performance by The Lassie Foundation . So much music, so little time. I've fallen woefully behind when it comes to acknowledging non-album releases (EPs and singles) from L.A. bands, so this edition of the Buzzsicle will make a dent in that. Buzzsicle 5 is an hour's worth of music — 16 songs that have caught my ear in the past few months. Hopefully, it'll provide you a little introduction to, or a refresher course on, the likes of t he Broken Remotes, Star Parts, the Tender Box, Avi Buffalo, Amateurs, Le Switch, Seasons, Courtenay Green, Evan Voytas, the Polyamorous Affair, the Airlines, Ronald of [...]

I've made it pretty clear that in this post-Pavement world we live in, I'm a sucker for anything that will fill the deep dark void I have from the. Thankfully, The Broken Remotes are another band I can turn to. They are an L.A. band that Octavius from KXLU turned me on to. I've only heard stuff off of their 2004 album, Throw Me The Keys , but I am eagerly anticipating their new one, Tonight's Last Stand , that is due out December 16th. Some of their [...]
