While we first became aware of Bronx emcee Noah Vinson via the oh-so-smoove "I Love You", the rapper on display on new solo tape The Life offers a far more varied bag of mic tricks than that aforementioned preview would suggest, finding Vinson impressively juggling classic East Coast rap braggadocio cool, conscious-dipped inspirational anthems, dizzying trash-talking lyrical exercises and one number that slyly warns of the dangers in dating in the social networking age over the course of the solid set's twelve tracks. It also holds what Noah [...]

Tweet One of my favourite punk gigs of the last decade was The Bronxxx at tiny little venue in Birmingham. Why was it good? Simple, I was scared. Punk gigs should have the vague sense of threat. At no point did I think a member of the audience would harm me, as a rule audiences at punk gigs tend to be very well mannered and community minded. The sense of danger came from the band themselves. It's hard to say why, they just had an air of menace [...]

Ten years ago this week, the Bronx played their first proper show at the Troubadour. They were loud and abrasive. They broke things. They were hotly pursued by the record industry and signed only a few months later. They seemed destined to be L.A.'s next punk icons, and although they never reached those heights, the Bronx have, against certain odds, persevered. In the years since, they have released three albums, survived two near-death experiences with their tour van, survived lousy luck with record labels, survived a few other things that might have felled lesser guys, traveled the world, [...]

Pick up the phone! Answer Brooklyn's Chordashian , the duo of Felix Feygin and Michael Banks, dropped today their brand new single "Call Me", which features one of the members on vocals for the first time. This tune is quite different from the pair's previous releases, but is also something that showcases their ability to create catchy, groovy songs that sounds so good. The single comes backed with a "Night Out" mix by Chordashian themselves, and a quality disco rework by rising Mexican producer Bronx , who turns it [...]

The mosh pit — a huge circle of flailing, banging bodies — started early and pretty much never stopped. Crowd surfers abounded; fans climbed the speakers and dived; and the Fonda Theatre shook like there was no tomorrow. Because, in a sense, there wasn't. The occasion on Monday night was the final U.S. show of Refused's yearlong reunion. The Swedish hardcore punk band, which had already stamped themselves as must-see with SoCal shows earlier this year at Coachella and FYF Fest, went out with a bang. Midway through the set, frontman Dennis Lyxzén even did some [...]

The Refused 2012 reunion tour offered up their final American appearance last night at The Fonda in Hollywood, which means that regardless of the praise that has been given across the board all year for this band, there is not really anyone left to convince. If you had any interest in checking the Swedish hardcore pioneers, the hope is that you did, because the short of it is that despite nearly 15 years of inactivity, Refused reemerged at festivals and medium-sized venues this year as a vital force, putting together concert experiences that have few, if any, equals. [...]

Check out my photos of Refused at the Fonda Theater over at Stereogum .
Refused are nearly dead. Having reformed earlier this year in Sweden , Refused proceeded to tour extensively playing blistering sets at Coachella , FYF Festival , and Fun Fun Fun Fest . They stopped by the Fonda Theater in Hollywood for one last lesson in destruction as the the whole floor of the venue was one massive swirl of humanity. Refused play one more show in their hometown before dissolving. Warming up the crowd were Los Angeles-based street punks the Bronx, who ditched their mariachi gear for a slamming set. Check out the photos [...]

File under: Too Much for a Monday: ► Leonard Cohen plays a sold-out Nokia Theatre. The 78-yard-old icon's latest album is titled "Old Ideas" and came out in January. ► Swedish hardcore outfit Refused plays the final date of its reunion tour at the Fonda Theatre, supported by the Bronx — who have a fourth album on the way and are playing just a few days short of the 10th anniversary of their first club show (Nov. 10, 2002, at the Troubadour). ► LP rocks the [...]
