Ireland produces its fair share of rubbish acts. In many cases a modicum of local success can be achieved by being friends with the right people. It's the nature of tiny pools I suspect. In a lot of cases being the flavour of the month is hardly ever influenced by whether you can dish up a good melody or not. Your hair looks nice, you are going out with guitar playing Saoirse and your song is on the 10 or so songs that are played to death on Phantom. Yep, you've made it....AWESOME. Despite all the hollow chest thumping from many quarters of the Irish media there ain't so much appealing emerging from the musical quarters of our little isle at the moment. Villagers look capable of achieving something, only time will tell. Another band that appear fully-fledged and capable of ruffling feathers are the Brothers Movement who have a curiously low profile back in their hometown of Dublin. They lost their keyboard player to Sweet Jane just last week but that should hardly shake them from their path given that there are a couple of siblings on board to steady the ship. [...]

The line-up is a decent mix of Irish and International acts. Some of the acts are massive and some are in their infancy. We've had our eyes on the Brothers Movement for some time, and we're glad they've unseated the likes of Ashcroft and the Gallagher Brothers for those big, heartfelt songs drenched in reverb. This single is out 19 October in the UK on Rocket Girl , and the album follows on 09 November. FS repped artist, THE BROTHERS MOVEMENT , will release their debut record in Europe on November 2nd, as well as the first single, " Standing Still ", on October 19th on Rocket Girl Records. The Dublin act will be the next release on Rocket Girl Records , the label behind A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS , and will be playing the In The City Festival in Manchester in October, debuting songs from their release. I keep hearing whispers about this band and then when I go to find out more the trail goes cold. Their official site is nonexistent and their myspace gives the Da Vinci Code a run for its money. Do know they are from Dublin and they have are a pair of Paxton siblings involved but the whereabouts of their debut album remains a mystery. If it does arrive it should be a delight given the neo psychedelic tendencies of 'Nothing Means Anything'. Not that we can be there, but tonight and tomorrow night in Belfast and Dublin, Future Sounds act, THE BROTHERS MOVEMENT are supporting DOVES at Ulster Hall and Olympia Theatre respectively. 2009 was a good year for the Irish in Texas as there were 22 Irish artists showcasing in total. What was most obvious that SXSW was not endgame for many of these artists who had toured heavily in the US prior to the Austin gigs or who had solicited an impressive number of gigs while there.
