Forget about the wind, cold, and snow, and come out for this stellar gig Wednesday at 8 pm at Fontana's on the Lower East Side. We'll have drink specials and plenty of music to go around. Not only will we be treated to a special appearance from Ireland's The Brothers Movement (this is what the Verve's new album SHOULD have sounded like), but the night will be book-ended by some of the best indie [...]

I actually have a really hard time with 'Best Of' lists each year because it's sometimes hard to put in perspective which bands, songs, albums, etc meant the most to you - which ones you played ALL the songs more than others with just one or two tracks - which ones marked a special moment that year or struck some personal connection. In a world where the iPod and iTunes has changed the way we encounter and devour music, so many have great individual songs, or just good songs, but it takes a real focused effort to turn out 10-13 [...]
Myspace // "Nothing Means Anything" [Audio] After the Verve and Oasis released letdowns this year, it's nice to know that the Brothers Movement are out there. This six-piece crank out truly inspired big rock songs with honest lyrics, all the while awash in psychedelia and shoegaze. The band's debut single (CD/download) "Blind" is out now. The band is playing a few gigs this month, including spots in Dublin and London -- check their Myspace for full details.

A freezing British Sunday, the perfect time to catch up with my weekly read of all things retro and hip. Without sounding like a blatant plug for Modculture Media, go there, have a walk around one of their Websites or Blogs, maybe stretch your legs abit.We are a little embarrassed in how our lazy attitude to posting is made to look compared to the wondrous peak of perfecto they are regularly reaching. Crisp design and cool information can be appreciated in all these listed places ... Electric Roulette ... Modculture ... Retro To Go [...]

Some people seem to really like the new VERVE record, and I'm a huge fan of theirs but I must admit it's slightly adult contemporary. I miss the old Richard and band, with some darkness, some sadness, not just songs about " Love is this, Love is that " - kind of a snore. That's why when I popped in the full length, self-titled CD by Dublin's THE BROTHERS MOVEMENT , I felt like an old friend returned, that there was a new Verve, and that all was ok. Beyond just The Verve, you get the best [...]
