And here we leave the 1970s. The first year of the 1980s would turn out to be a fantastic year. If I'm still going to run this blog (as I am writing, I am short on time and, to be honest, motivation), I'll look forward to sharing the records that take me back to that year. * * * B.A. Robertson - Bang Bang.mp3 A pal of mine tells a great story about he lost his virginity [...]

On this day in 1981 an ambitious cable television network debuted with footage of the Apollo 11 launch and a promise from then unknown video jockey Mark Goodman that "you'll never look at music the same way again." Then Rod Stewart and contemporaries (but mostly Rod Stewart) lip-synched on the screens of the few northern New Jerseyans whose cable operator picked up the channel. The rest is history. So let's get nostalgic - because nostalgia's the best - by listening to Blondes Have More Fun on Spotify watching the first hour of MTV's broadcast [...]
Bouuuuhouuuuuuuu! Quitte à mal jouer, autant [...]
Saturday marks the last full day of the barrage of official and unofficial South By Southwest showcases. Yesterday, we presented a gigantic musical guide to the top showcases for evening shows (not even including daytime showcases), plus mini-mixes for our favorite showcases for Wednesday and Thursday. It's hard to believe that SXSW 2011 is winding [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

We're not sure if anyone still cares about Flo Rida , but we thought it was interesting/sacrilegious that he's sampled Yello's 'Oh Yeah!' classic at the same time as will.i.am's Buggles -sampling on ' Check It Out '. Apparently music has run out of ideas. Here's Flo's ' Turn Around (5,4,3,2,1) ' video, anyway: Click here to view the embedded video.

The "Video Killed the Radio Star" guys try on some will.i.am/Nicki Minaj.

The song deserves to be posted just because it samples Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles , making it relevant about 30 years later once again. Sorry will.i.am , you got outshined by a one-hit-wonder band. Fun fact: The Buggles are reuniting for one night on September 28th, 2010 ! Nicki Mina - will.i.am - Check It Out.mp3 - Albert

Yesterday during KanYe West's new institution "G.O.O.D. Fridays" (where he will be dropping a new tune every Friday 'til the 25th of December) he revealed that he and Jay-Z is about to release a five track EP later this year called "Watch the Throne". He also unleashed the first track off the release, 'Monster' featuring Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and Justin Vernon (of Bon Iver). Also, here's another brand new release from the new installment of the "Lime Light"-series, Nicki Minaj's 'Check It Out' featuring Will.I.Am that samples one of my fave guilty pleasures from the 1980's: [...]

I don't want to tempt fate, but if that's not a number one, I'll eat my sofa. As the man responsible for such songs as Diana Vickers ' "The Boy Who Murdered Love," The Saturdays ' "Chasing Lights," and Will Young 's "Anything is Possible," as well as some of the upcoming material from Pixie Lott and JLS , pop writer and producer Chris Braide has seen his fair share of glory in the UK Top 40 recently. Two weeks ago, I had the [...]

With so many other bands from the New Wave era storming the stage once more to play full-album shows, it shouldn't be a huge surprise that the Buggles are reuniting to play their classic 1980 debut album, The Age of Plastic , in its entirety, but there are a couple of key differences between this event and the rest of the items on the comeback calendar. For one thing, there's no monetary motivation - post-Buggles, Trevor Horn became one of the biggest producers in the world (Frankie Goes to Hollywood, ABC, Seal, etc., ad [...]
In the first video ever played on MTV, the Buggles famously sang that "video killed the radio star." That mantra has since become "internet killed the video star," and the Buggles seem to be moving that way too. Singer/producer Trevor Horn posted a blog entry on his website titled "The Buggles Will Return 28.09.10," telling fans to "Watch this space…" The man knows how to generate web buzz. The Buggles have reunited before, once in 1998 and again in 2004 for a charity gig. The cryptic note suggests this might be something [...]

W oczekiwaniu na Port Entropy (21.04)... Shugo Tokumaru - Video Killed The Radio Star (Buggles cover)
Digitally remastered and expanded edition of this 1982 sophomore album from the British duo including bonus tracks. Adventures In Modern Recording is something of a lost classic, with great vocals by Trevor Horn and a sparkling electronic sound that is completely in-step with the prevailing electro mood of the pop charts in 2010. Alongside all the b-sides and remixes of the era, Horn has
I had a couple of emails yesterday inquiring about my Mom who some of you might recall has Alzheimer's and moved to a nursing home last July. If there's an upside to the disease, it's that it eventually steals your memory along with your desire to maintain connections with things or people with whom you'd normally miss when taken from your home and placed in a senior's facility, [...]
