Enough of 2010 - let's blow this damn year to smithereens with a blast of Cheap Trick 's 'Auf Wiedersehen' live from Japan back in the hey of the day. One of the rockinest of all the Trick rockers, I've loved this lil ditty to suicide from the first time I heard it. I even attempted my own cover version of this for my 2006 covers project . Happy New Year everyone!
Lightspeed Champion, aka Dev Hynes, aka one third of defunct NME darlings Test Icicles, has a new ep coming out in December. He worked with composer Van Dyke Parks, who people may remember was involved with Brian Wilson's Smile debacle album. It is a relaxed affair as Hynes takes us [Read more]

As we all know Jewelry is going bye bye now. So I let them have their own space. I think its quite sad they are leaving but... sometime you have to move on to... move on. Maybe they should have came back in the first place? Who knows? This is one for their last performance together and this song ad the best song to see them out. *sighs* Such terrible outfits they are wearing... Anyway, I like the song. I don't think its be posted yet so here it is. [...]

Kicking off our new series called Esperanza Extra, which will showcase our favourite picks for strictly dancefloor-oriented music, we have no more than Rills & Step. The Turin suspects who already collaborated with us with some great digital releases are making their vinyl debut showcasing 3 stunning floor killers. On the A side, we have 'Rodeo Drive', a deep burner with some disco infused sounds all over the place, already tried and tested this track can make serious damage, now it's time for you to test it. On the B-Side, 'Sunset Boulevard' is a Chi-Disco hypnotic driving track which we [...]

Out of Philadelphia, PA and into my ears, thanks to a recommendation from my brother, came the music of The Bye Byes . Man, I cannot even begin to tell you how exciting it is to hear music which sounds amazing and beautifully different then everything else out there right now. The sound is reminiscent of the late 60s/early 70s, not the disco frou -frou sound, but the "dance-easy-pop-snap-your-fing ers-and-do the "s" bob with your head-while-you-listen" sound. Trust me, once you hear it you'll understand. The tracks are complete, the arrangements are well executed and the lyrics [...]
After a slow week for shows it finally starts to pick it up tonight. In Baltimore the Golden Fest continues at the Golden West Cafe with performances by Lo Moda, Ed Schrader, Matrimonials, and... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

While I won't be writing too much on The Bye Byes (because I hope to be able to ask them some questions) I do just want to let you know they are a hot band. My brother told me to give them a listen and so I looked them up on MySpace of course. And even with the downgraded quality of MySpace tracks I really like their sound. The Bye Byes have a fresh vibe with a classic 70s twist. I love it. This is perfect Friday music, it's upbeat and cheery. With [...]

Add your own adjective to finish off the title (plus it ties in nicely with a little gem later). Snow, ice, rain and damn cold weather can't keep this fine weekend of music away. Lots of talent from the region and elsewhere are out and about. Here is what's happening. Friday Photo Credit: Band's Facebook The XPN Free at Noon session does it again and brings Annuals to the World Cafe [...]

A majority of my favorite local artists play constantly around the city of Philadelphia. Just about any night of the week I can expect to find at least one or two great Philly bands playing somewhere between Old City, Fishtown and West Philly. One of those few exceptions is retro pop rockers The Bye Byes , so it's always a treat to see their name on a bill. Front man Pete Shauger 's pop sensibilities shine through as the foursome plays simple rock 'n roll riffs on songs such as 'Leftover Lois", "I Am The Office" [...]
Tonight in Baltimore Metro Gallery has an awesome FREE show with Sweden's Fredrik. If you had hip hop on your mind, check out Mr. Lif, Mickey Factz, Cubbie Bear, Bad Habit, and DJ Remedy at Bedrock . The Shackeltons, Arizona, and The Bye Byes play the M Room while Matthew Sweet and The Bridges take down the Trocadero . There's an amazing show at the Fire with [...]

Once upon a time, way back in July (well it feels like forever ago, anyway), I caught a rare live show performed by Philadelphia's The Bye Byes . Since that night, front man Pete Shauger and I have been playing interview tag. Over the course of a three month long conversation, we talked about our respective histories with the saxophone, the MySpace/Facebook revolution, and the band's vacancy for an agent. Enjoy! Jessica, PopWreckoning : I haven't been able to find much in the way of a biography on The [...]
