While there were an insane number of great albums released this year, much of the excitement and buzz of new music and artists came instead from EPs. Often released as a precursor to an LP, the extended play (or EP) prepares fans for what they may find on a full length. For many of the releases in 2011, though, the EP was able to stand alone as a full musical composition. With the rise of Foster The People , Gary Clark Jr. , Alabama Shakes , Reptar , and followup releases from Surfer [...]

Listening to the Philadelphia-based The Canon Logic is like taking a quick trip back to the simple days of 2004, when Facebook was elite and popular buzz groups like The Killers were still exciting—even as they played their plain old five-piece pop-rock and sported only slight bits of make-up. The faint edginess offered by groups born in the age of Bush-era angst has since been duplicated and only sometimes replicated (or, even more rare, reinvented); thus, the experimental tinge that once set those bands apart now leaves The Canon Logic lost in the oblivion of quirky-trendy music fuzz. But, once you manage to [...]

DOWNLOAD : Canon Logic - "Don't Know What You've Got (Til Its Gone)" I've got a backlog of postings and CD reviews to finish and yet I spent too much time this evening trying to Photoshop Tim Kiely's head onto a mid-80's photo of Tom Keifer. The Canon Logic have the lead-off track on the new Engine Room Recordings' Guilt By Association compilation. The theme of Vol. 3 is 80's hair metal and The Canon Logic deliver a rocking power-pop cover of Cinderella's [...]
Engine Room Records has released the third volume in their series of indie bands covering guilty pleasure tunes, and this time they're all taking on hair metal classics. How does it fare? Very, very well.
While the summer is gone, I always look forward to the crispness of autumn. It's a time for changes, swapping tanks for sweaters, and flip flops for fun fall boots. While you may be pining for summer's music fest, you will be excited to know that with the passing of October brings another lovely event, CMJ. We are excited to be attending this year and wanted to share with your some of our picks for the 2011 festival: ANR Active Childe Ambassadors Art Vs. Give it up for pep-rock. There's a skill in keeping your music upbeat without paying heed to whatever darker tendencies lurk in your fringes. For their newest release, Brooklyn's The Canon Logic serve up five tracks of steadfastly positive-sounding pop, all while lyrically exploring what the band describes as themes of "fear, solitude, risk, and perseverance." Rapid Empire is the EP-sized followup to The Canon Logic's 2010 debut album, FM Arcade. The hooky melodies and fat vocal harmonies are still here, but the jangly piano leads have been tuned down in favor of a more balanced, occasionally guitar-driven [...]

Tweet Well orchestrated, emotional, and leaves you wanting to hear it again, this is what music is about. So of course The Canon Logic are from Brooklyn . With so much sureness and heart in "Howl In The Night" it's nearly unbelievable how unknown The Canon Logic are. I caught their EP "The White Balloon" back in 2009 and wasn't that impressed, everything just sounded undefined, like a band who was trying too much, who [...]
. . . 41st And Home - "Wilderness Eyes" [mp3] "Wilderness Eyes" is a song that from the first note I knew I was in love with. This is the kind of song I'm likely to hit repeat on and just let it play over and over. 41st and Home's sound is obviously Vancouverish. I [...]
Tweetvaso link This is exactly the type of music that should sound the end of summer. Not mysterious, dark psychedelia that summons thoughts of snow and cold, but upbeat, catchy rhythms, and sing-a-longs galore to help keep the sun shining and the air reasonably warm. Containing these characteristics, Brooklyn's Canon Logic has released an EP...

Brooklyn rockers Canon Logic return on August 30th to deliver Rapid Empire , their new EP and follow up to last year's full-length debut, FM Arcade . Out on Engine Room Recordings, the five-track release finds the band exploring themes of risks, fears, and solitude through fractured narratives, all highlighted by piercing guitars and steadfast drumming. Only in Brooklyn, am I right? If you're in the NYC borough, you can catch the band on September 8th at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. If you're willing to share your e-mail address, you can snag a cut [...]

As we head towards the weekend, there's some excellent shows this evening in town. Style wise, there's a lot to choose from. Here's our picks for tonight. The Canon Logic combine rock vocals borrowed from The Killers with a sixties pop harmony sensibility. The Brooklyn-based band (who met at the University of Delaware) released their full-length debut, FM Arcade , in 2010. The album highlights the Canon Logic's love for Beach Boys-era choruses, undercut with an indie rock construction. The Canon Logic perform with City Rain, Sleeper Agent and Run [...]
