Aurora - The Cat's Miaow " The original version of "Aurora" first appeared on the "Weapons of happiness" cassette compilation which came with "The World of Suzie Wong" fanzine 1993. It also appeared on a couple of other releases before finally being compiled on the "A kiss and a cuddle" CD. In March 1993 the Cat's Miaow, using an assumed name, sent a cassette copy of "Aurora" to Summershine Records as a potential single. The song "Ferry no. 63 was included as a [...]
Third floor fire escape view - The Cat's Miaow Those Munch video compilations, even though most of it is just incidental super-8 footage set to sound, are such treasures.

It might never happen - The Cat's Miaow Their best song. Some sweeping thing, yet as unhurried and pensive as anything could be. The chorus is what gets me. Just one line, one thought, one reassurance, Kerrie's voice rising and carrying you through it all. It takes up such a small part of the chorus that there's a few bars of her silence before it turns around and begins again. It's beautiful. And the surprise trumpet at the end. The best song.

Third floor fire escape view - The Cat's Miaow I can't believe that the Cat's Miaow were Australian. I mean it's not like they played live here very often, nor did they seem to focus themselves for local ears, but one would expect at least some residue of their existence. But there is nothing! Literally nothing. I know it was some time ago, but the scant evidence remaining to suggest that this even happened is comparable to what evidences Greek mythology. As [...]
[MP3]: The Cat's Miaow :: Do You Think It Will Snow Tonight? Yes, yes I do — and I am very excited!

And here is The Cat's Miaow's original version : [...]

The Cat's Miaow "I Really Don't Know" was released as part of the Contrast label's split 73 single series, vol 1 in 1993. I especially love Cat's Miaow songs when Bart took on vocal duties. ...And that bass line still kills me. Teresa and Lisle! Two If By Sea! Two If By Sea are, in a word, heavenly. As a band, they are Teresa (The Haircuts, Junebug) and Lisle (Fireflies), who are such a perfect musical match that I can't believe it didn't happen sooner. Their music is – like I said before – heavenly. Their list of influences pretty much much nails their sound perfectly; The Cat's Miaow, The Field Mice, and The Clientele, just to name a few. At the moment I'm completely in love with "Pale As White," with it's beautiful reverbed [...]
The Sugargliders' "Seventeen" covered by The Cat's Miaow Here we go again! A little late today, but to be honest I'm surprised I remembered at all. Today's INDIEPOPdoesINDIEPOP is a case of the cover being far superior to the original – in my humble opinion, of course. The Sugargliders originally recorded "Seventeen" for Sarah Records in 1992. It was their second single for the Sarah (67). Three years later, on their second 7" single, The Cat's Miaow included a beautiful cover of "Seventeen". The single was the second for The Cat's Miaow, and [...]

Song obsessions are those songs that we listen to on repeat. I noticed that my obsessions are often a week long. I also thought that other people might have similar obsessions. I've collected a panel of a few like-minded individuals and gotten their "song obsessions of the week." Quite often it's easy to explain why the song is good; it's much hard to explain why we're obsessed. Maybe you'll become obsessed with one of these. - Adrian ( me ): Johnny Flynn & the Sussex Wit - Wayne Rooney [...]
