I am becoming more and more confident in talking on the radio. I am slowly developing my voice - my on-air personality. There is still room for improvement; namely in the transition from Stuarto's show to mine, but I'll get there eventually. Last Friday's show was centered around indie-folk again, with plenty of psychedelic folk, orchestral folk, and folk-pop as well. As started last week, two songs will be featured at bottom. "Notorious Lightning" by Destroyer off Your Blues "Shanty for the Arethusa" [...]
At least half of the music I post about these days is from Seattle, partly because that's what I'm surrounded with, but also because it's a great spot for music. I was inspired by a short PBS documentary about modern Seattle music. It's only 13 minutes long and gives you a quick rundown of Seattle [...]

Yoo hoo internets, I'm ba-aack! With a friend visiting, and in no mood to waste his holiday watching me fanny about on the computer, I ended up taking an unplanned day off yesterday. We even did one of those tourist things which it is so easy to ignore when you actually live in a city: we climbed Arthur's Seat . And it was bloody amazing! So what, after a weekend of endurance drinking, does this week hold in store? Well, the general idea was 'as much sleep as I can manage', but it looks like this might [...]
Last weekend, we drove up to Newport, Rhode Island for the famous Newport Folk Festival. Needless to say, the pristine weather, oceanside location, and stellar bands made for some truly spectacular shots. Check out the photo galleries below to get a taste of the experience. Well, we're just about halfway with the reposts... Today, we feature volumes 9 and 10, which were originally posted in August 2009. Volume 10 holds a special place in this blog's history, because that's when Aaron from Tsururadio offered to post the mix on his blog. That started a bit of following and it has grown ever since. Aaron's moved onto Tsuruphoto, following his passion for photography. He now has a nudie-zine featuring some edgy but tasteful art, several videos to promote the zine and Tsuruphoto, and the occasional mixtape. We owe a big thanks for his early support, and [...]

Autopsy IV note: A couple of weeks back I posted a help wanted post on the site in an effort to find some additional (and consistent) contributors. For the time being I am gonna post their posts as guest posts for a little while as we nail down the site since the great spam hack of 2011 and as they prove who will be consistent and who's gonna decide this bloggery isn't for them. You know how new music can sneak up on you and sink [...]

There is something truly indelible about George Wein's Newport Folk Festival . You walk the grounds and you walk through history; my father walked these Newport streets in 1965 to hear Bob Dylan plug in (the venue was different, but the streets were the same). The main stage looks out from Fort Adams State Park at the Pell Bridge stretching over glistening Newport Harbor with its fleet of sailboats, kayaks, and yachts, perfection in the setting sun. There's a feeling of ultimate unity - ultimate folkness - between audience and artist, both sharing in the warm knowledge [...]
The Cave Singers emerged as one of the big winners at the Newport Folk Festival this past weekend, as they delivered a terrific set which was featured live on NPR ( still available to stream ). The Pacific Northwest Band traverses a lot of ground, comparing as much at times to Waylon Jennings or Mellisa Etheridge as they do to the Eels or Seattle contemporaries/tour mates, The Fleet Foxes. This recent stripped-down performance for KEXP highlights a current personal obsession thanks in large part to its million-dollar guitar pattern. Here is Seeds of Night... [...]

The block party on my pathetic block in Chicago is pretty much a glorified bake sale with a shitty bouncy castle which I'm not even allowed to bounce in. So the leap from my wholly depressing, completely sober, and awkward neighborhood reunion to the Capitol Hill Block Party is a paradigm shift to be sure. And to boot, it's less of a block party and more of a bona fide music festival that just happens to take place on Pike Street between 10 th and 12 th . But the focus on the Seattle/Capitol Hill district community [...]

The three man band from Seattle better known as The Cave Singers deliver soulful folk at its best in their latest release, No Witch . Out earlier this year, No Witch is the band's third and strongest album yet, prompting them to tour alongside fellow Seattle folksters, Fleet Foxes. Utilizing the rhythm of the audience's hand-clapping, Marty Lund's sizzling percussion, Derek Fudesco's melodic guitar and Pete Quirk's enveloping voice to bring it all together, The Cave Singers deliver passionate and memorable live performances. I highly recommend catching a show in their ongoing tour, which includes a performance [...]
