By Malvina Rincón It’s Monday, November 7th at The Echo in Los Angeles. Death Kit , One AM Radio , and Evan Voytas take the stage throughout the night. Their respective sonic, synth-pop, spacey tunes prove to be a good mix with the current act in residence, The Chain Gang of 1974 . As the vocalist and musical wonder kid, Kamtin Mohager is The Chain Gang of 1974 . Having released his debut full-length album, ‘Wayward Fire”, earlier this year, Mohager [...]
Last night at The Echo in Silver Lake, I saw a slew of awesome musicians. K Flay, Lesands, The Chain Gang of 1974 and Tic Tic Boom all rocked the place with style. The show was special in the fact that it consisted of artists and groups on a wide range of genres and not [...]
► Bob Mould , whose three decades in rock includes seminal bands such as Hüsker Dü and Sugar and an estimable catalog of solo work, is feted in the program "See a Little Light: A Celebration of the Music and Legacy of Bob Mould" at Disney Hall. The program, hosted by veteran DJ Matt Pinfield, features performances by Dave Grohl, Britt Daniel, Ryan Adams, No Age, Craig Finn and Tad Kubler of the Hold Steady, Grant-Lee Phillips, Margaret Cho and Best Coast. And Mould himself will perform. ► The Cure kicks off three nights of its [...]
Much ado and much to do on the first Monday day of Shovember: ► L.A. quintet Vanaprasta , its debut album "Healthy Geometry" just out last week, kicks off its residency at the Satellite, with Rocco DeLuca , Future Ghost , Newchild and Beatnik Jr. supporting. ► Great lineup for the opening night of the Chain Gang of 19742s residency at the Echo — including the One AM Radio , new Dovecote Records signee Evan Voytas and Death Kit . ► Little Hurricane , [...]

Happy Halloween to you and you and you. I'm sitting here dressed as Ash Ketchum from Pokémon hoping that the snow storm we had on Saturday night (seriously?) wasn't the beginning of winter for us here in New York City. It's currently supposed to be chilly but nice, which is, in my opinion, the best weather for venturing out and seeing some live music. From Feist and Battles , to The Drums and Pixies , we have some extraordinary artists visiting our city this week. See below for our suggested shows of [...]

White Arrows and The Chain Gang of 1974 opened for The Naked and Famous to a packed TLA and they killed it. White Arrows took the stage first and they rocked very stylish Hawaiian shirts. White Arrows music is a very likable combination of Vampire Weekend and The Strokes . The vocals are distinctly from another era of music with a particular snarl reminiscent of the 1970s. White Arrows are in good company on a label out of Brooklyn called [...]
Dakin's taking the week off to play with his cat and get ready for the Treasure Island Music Festival. I'm ready for the festival - Friendly Fires, Cut Copy, Explosions in the Sky, Death Cab For Cutie, Empire of the Sun, Battles, Geographer, Aloe Blacc, many more, bring it! - so I'm suggesting shows for [...]
We can't help you get naked or famous, but we can get you free tickets to The Naked and Famous in LA.

C=T had a chance to catch Foster the People at the small Bluebird Theater last June with the Chain Gang of 1974 and Gardens and Villa which turned out to be one of my favorite shows from this past year. SoCal's hottest item played "Pumped Up Kicks" and Mr. Kenny G sat in on "Houdini" to lend his musical expertise. Foster The People-Houdini (RAC Remix)

Photo courtesy of Luca Venter The Chain Gang of 1974 is a hybrid of so many sounds in music right now; vocals disfigured by effects, energetic dance beats and body-moving synths, the Chain Gang of 1974 will leave you shaking with its upbeat vibe. Originally the multi-instrumentalist/sole contributor of the group, Kamtin Mohager is now backed by a full band, his ideas supported by a full and captivating myriad of sounds. One moment, he has songs driven by thumping bass; others, he is relying on a combination of synths and heavy, bumping [...]

I went to see Tapes 'n Tapes late last week in Denver. Well, actually, I went to see The Chain Gang of 1974 who was opening for Tapes 'n Tapes. My intuition was right (though the headliner was good as well). I really liked what I heard from Kamtin Mohager's musical vehicle, The Chain Gang of 1974, in limited exposure and that in turn was enough for me to take the opportunity to catch him in his former hometown. So I did. Mohager left Denver after a breakup and he landed in LA. He used the personal situation [...]
Denver rocker Kamtin Mohager's project, The Chain Gang of 1974, amplifies the Thompson Twins' one-hit wonder, 'Hold Me Now.'

After touring with Gorillaz , Mick Jones brought his regrouped Big Audio Dynamite to Club Nokia for a headlining show prior wrapping up their stateside tour at Outside Lands in San Francisco. The Chain Gang of 1974 provided support.

Day two of Lollapalooza 2011 included headlining performances by Eminem, My Morning Jacket, Pretty Lights, and Beirut. But, there was an impressive undercard in Ellie Goulding, Lykke Li, DFA 1979, Deftones, Local Natives, Big Audio Dynamite, and The Chain Gang of 1974 - all of which you can sneak peek below. Check out a few select shots from Brad Bretz and Heather Kaplan below, then check in Monday morning for a full report from this year's festival. Ellie Goulding: [...]

I posted about the remix Silver Swans did for The Chain Gang of 19742s "Undercover" but not the original. Where as the remix was more of a cleaned up and more New Order-esque, the original is a gritty raucous of sound overdriven by synthesizers. Compared to the remix it went back to where New Order [...]

I have to address this: while I enjoy the sound of Washed Out, there is this nagging feeling that I have heard it all before. I can't sit through the entire album. I know that saying "it sounds the same as" is a cheap shot, a lazy way of expressing an opinion... but I gotta say, this has little repeat power for me. I probably wouldn't say a single thing about the album if it wasn't showing up on mixtapes and podcasts. It's rather mediocre, and I think I have listened to way too much chill-out music over the last [...]
