Three long years of hard work, touring as the bassist for 3OH!3, DJ sets, and a week of recording in random studios/spaces around the US has finally paid off for 24-year old Kamtin Mohager. On April 27th, his musical project The Chain Gang of 1974 will release its debut full-length album White Guts via Golden Gold Records. Planetary New Media described the album's sound as "somewhere between a smattering of basement Jesus and Mary Chain bass-chunks, a slow-growing disco-house quirk and a general lo-fi-y-ness sounding like an early art-school David Byrne, stoned while watching [...]

Tonight's bill at the Hi-Dive is a no-brainer. The Chain Gang of 1974 is a one man army (and he's also the guy behind the drum set for 3OH!3 on tour) , Jonathan + B-Pro is the second coming of Prince with more balls and dare I say better dance moves, and Rhinoceropolis regulars Jospehine & the Mousepeople. Show starts at 10. Phoenix-1901 (The Chain Gang of 1974 Remix) [mp3] Jonathan + B-Pro -Hypnotized [mp3] [...]

We've been meaing to put up a lil sumthin sumthin about these guys for a while. Created by frontman Kam, the Chain Gang of 1974 are an up and coming indietronica hipster dance-hop group from Denver, CO. They are currently playing with extended BDN family members 3oh!3 as their back up band all summer at the Van's Warped Tour. From what we've heard, it sounds like the tour is going great and we can't wait to get the full experience on August 9. I caught up with Kam after [...]

Gogol Bordello A slow day that found me playing cornhole during a quiet lull before Gogol Bordello. The crowds were visibly thinner, and not so many black Tool t-shirts to be had. The irie mystic feeling was in the air, with The Wailers doing their best to keep the spirit of Marley alive. The crowd helped out by smoking their fair share of gonj, enough to resuscitate Bob. The lineup heavy on the local talent had me seeing 3OH!3 for the first time and a blues legend. Fresh off of their smaller show at [...]
Yesterday was the 15th Annual Westword Music Showcase and one of the best turnouts I've seen at this Denver event. A few days ago I posted a Special Edition Snobcast where I wrote an extensive preview about the bands I felt were highlights this year. This wasn't meant to diminish any of the other bands playing, it's just that in most cases I had already seen many of the other bands worth seeing. So now that the showcase is over and done with I'm sure you're wondering to yourself (or maybe even out-loud), "Hey Father Guido! [...]

We're giving away free tickets to the show!! Just email us at godonnybrook@gmail.com with the reason we should pick you, and you could be added to our super secret guest list. The Golden Triangle sounds like a mystic land of enigma from which no one returns, but it's actually the area of Denver that the 15th annual Westword Music Showcase will overrun Saturday with 85+ ace bands, both local and national. On Saturday, come peruse ten stages of goodness with me; we'll see local bands worth vigorously loving like Everything Absent or Distorted , Young Coyotes and Houses , as well as influential Denver punk pioneers [...]

(photo by Everyone Is Famous ) In my pre-teen years I was a jungle baby. Life was Malibu grand prix full moon parties and drum and bass until 5am; it was 2 hour drives to see AK 1200. But soon, I moved onto De la Soul Lord Finesse and Tribe, matured listening to Aesop and Atmosphere. Eventually, in my old age, I found myself drinking like a fish at electro clubs. It???s not surprising then that I find myself attracted to Chicago???s The Hood Internet. In case you don???t know, Hood Internet is an Internet [...]

I return from the warm and open arms of the Denver Post Underground Music Showcase this weekend with an invigorated and genuine excitement about the music that is being made in this fine state. I heard some incredible stuff. Even if you live nowhere near Denver, take a listen to what my weekend was like because there are acts that I feel could be nationally noteworthy right now out of the Denver scene. The festival was a screaming success on the sweltering hot streets. Even after going to about a jillion large-scale [...]
