Filed under: News Lester-Chambers.com There are too many stories of musicians signing rights away to songs and future royalties, and now a member of '60s group the Chambers Brothers -- best known for their classic 'Time Has Come Today' -- is taking his plight to the masses via YouTube and Facebook, attracting the support of Yoko Ono . Earlier this week, a photo began circulating online showing 72-year-old Lester Chambers hiding behind a [...]
A wonderful new voice from down under.

Continuing our time theme for a bit, here are six mighty fine bands from the past you just may not have heard of yet - or am I underestimating you now? The Chambers Brothers - Time has come Today My soul has been psychedelicized.
The Chambers Brothers - I Can't Stand It "I Can't Stand It" is a stand-out track from The Chambers Brothers' 1967 release, Time Has Come . This is the album where the Brothers' Chamber came alive. They had been moving through the folk scene gaining notoriety (even singing back-up for Dylan on some unreleased tracks), but with Time Has Come , the boys electrified and funkified. This radio-ready single is usually overlooked since this album also contained the Brothers' [...]

Photo from the Celebration of Life in June 1971 (found on the internet) The Woodstock festival in 1969 signaled a new era in the marketing of rock culture to the youth masses. Of course, before the first note of music was played Woodstock was actually a slick, professionally planned event - they had lots of publicity and even the foresight to hire a movie crew - but it turned into something else once the fences came down. So after Woodstock every time somebody put a couple of bands together they called it a "festival" and any [...]

"Don't blow this for us, Gene!" It started for the youngsters in 2000, when "Saturday Night Live" first telecast the sketch pictured above. It was called "Behind the Music: Blue Öyster Cult," but later became (in) famous simply as the "Cowbell Sketch." Yeah, the Cult had a cowbell in its song "Don't Fear The Reaper," but you know that was about the only true-to-life thing in this short, delightful bit of fantasy. We saw Blue Öyster Cult play live last summer, and during the intro to "Reaper," singer Eric Bloom (who Will Ferrell's character [...]
Filed under: News , R.I.P. Surf-rock drummer turned publisher Richard Delvy -- who played in one of the genre's first bands, the Bel-Airs -- has died. According to the Hollywood Reporter , Delvy, 67, passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, at a California hospital after a prolonged sickness. Delvy first got his start as a drummer and producer but his business acumen was equally impressive during his music career. Originally from Bridgeport, Conn., he moved to California at 20 years old and began playing with the Bel-Airs. That group [...]

1. To love without fear 2. To stand up for whats right 3. To go ride when it snows Makeout : Chambers Brothers - Time Has Come Today (don lowed)

The Chambers Brothers: Love, Peace and Happiness No serial comma, no problem.

It seems the East Coast-West Coast rivalry is being dug up again, which we're sure Biggee and Tupac would be amused at. It's 40 years ago this August that the legendary Woodstock festival took place, which saw electric performances by Santana, Janis Joplin, The Grateful Dead, The Who, CSNY, and Jimi Hendrix among others. Now, though, the celebration of four decades of influential music is being disputed by San Francisco and New York companies, who are arguing who owns the rights to the name "Woodstock." Via [...]

Photos by Chris Morris/ PYMCA . The UFO Club, London circa 1967 -70 I've been wanting to do a Psychedelic/Garage Rock post for some time now and having just acquired some new material from Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve , the time has finally presented itself. As you are probably aware, the two Wizards of which I speak are one Erol Alkan and Richard Norris and using their magical production skills they cut-up and re-edit classic Psyche Rock tracks. The duo have just released a new EP entitled [...]
