This will be the first time in months that I'll be doing Fresh from the Post without the usual Q and A - mostly because of the sudden shift in the force and my midichlorian count hitting an all time low (in other words, life got in the way and I haven't had the time to set up proper interviews). To accomodate me doing other 'important' stuff until I get substantial earnings from running this website (which at its current state is done all for the love of music, aka for free ) - Fresh from [...]
Seein' the Scene is a (typically) weekly photographic presentation featuring images from some of the best local rock concerts Minnesota has to offer. These images are captured through the lens of Minneapolis rock photographer Mike Minehart. We welcome comments. More images from these shows can often be viewed at www.mikeminehart.com. Complete with a new, de-cheesified name, here's the weekly collection of five songs that've made me happy in the past seven days: Cults - Go Outside Cults started making blogwaves last week after posting three songs on their Bandcamp page . DI Pitchfork duly investigated, and found out they were a boy-girl NYC duo. They might not have a MySpace page, but the pair sure can make a great tune. Go Outside combines a glockenspiel jingle that sounds like one of those tacky musical Christmas cards, hippy-sounding female vocals, a [...]

As you may or may have not noticed, for a brief period of time last week, a couple of previous TTYN's were removed by Blogger. I was sent an email on behalf of the IFPI (a British version of RIAA) that says there was "copy written," material placed on the blog and they required to have it taken down. As a result the posts were not deleted but put into "draft," mode. That was cool, but the big problem is Blogger doesn't tell you what the offending link(s) was/were. Sometimes it's easy to figure out, other times it's a bit [...]

This week, music and film lovers who didn't like their own world all that much had quite the pick from imaginary (better?) places to live. Plastic Beach, Sisterworld, Logorama, and whatever the fuck place it is that Flash Delirium lives, let's call it Flashlandia™. Personally, while Logorama would definitely be trippy as hell, I think I'd probably opt for Flashlandia™. It seems to me that colours would just be much brighter there and the bubblegum sweeter. Sisterworld would be cool too, lots of concrete, the occasional droning sound emitting from an abandoned building, leaky taps [...]

As stated before, the ukulele is THE instrument of 2009. So it makes sense to have (at least) one more post this year that uses said instrument. The Chord & the Fawn hail from the Twin Cities. A pair of ladies who craft quirky indie-pop songs that feature the Uke. Listen: The Chord & the Fawn ∞ Love, Sex, and Rock 'n' Roll

If you knit things with incredibly small yarn, or need a constant supply of crate paper, or have mulled wine and MPR going on in the kitchen, this is a show to appreciate you for your fabulosity. Dark Dark Dark Anders Ponders and The Chord and The Fawn Tuesday Dec. 15 9pm Kitty Cat Klub - Free

I was out quaffing lagers with a pal last night and once again Friday arrives with that faintly queasy, furry-tongued sensation we all know so well. Blech. Still, nothing a fine meal of fish and a couple of pints at the King's Wark can't solve I am pretty sure. I have yet to meet the hangover their fine lunches can't defeat. Tonight I am off to act as arm candy for Mrs. Toad at a client dinner with the Dastardly Finance Corp for which she works. Me, my black eye, a scruffy beard and a grudgingly-worn suit - [...]
