CMJ is going on strong, so that means plenty of shows heading towards NYC or on their way back. Either way, more for us in the IA region. Like always, Thursday has plenty to see. Forget the British Invasion of the '60s. The 2000s are having a Swedish invasion. Tonight and tomorrow, you can catch three of the best singer-songwriters Sweden has to offer. Ane Brun and Tobias Froberg are joined by former native Theresa Andersson , now calling New [...]

Tonight is pretty slow for shows...except for The Dig and The City Veins who are playing the Black Cat . Enjoy! mp3: The Dig - Marianne mp3: The City Veins - Freedom After The Fall

A line-up of well-known artists intermixes with the best from the region. Some artists to see on Friday: Beth Orton, Alejandro Escovedo, Chuck Prophet, The Brakes, The Redwalls and The Wars On Drugs. Made my first trip out to For Reno last night to see The City Veins for the first time since I invited them to open up for Robbers on High Street. Rain had threatened us all day but it actually turned out to be a lovely night and Aaron, Charles and Spencer played a great set, throwing in a Nirvana cover to boot. [...]

Washington, DC Playing at IOTA this evening with Julie Ocean and Yell County in celebration of the CD releases from all three local bands. "Freedom After The Fall" The City Veins on MySpace The City Veins on The Hype Machine

A ridiculous amount of regional bands are releasing CDs this weekend and they are all having parties to celebrate. With one Saturday exception, they mostly go down tonight. The Brakes are unleashing the bluesy-roots rock Tale of Two Cities upon the populace at Johnny Brendas in Philly. Not to worry DC. You can catch them Monday at IOTA. mp3: Big Money (live) Also in Philly, House of Fire and Bells Bells Bells [...]

While the rest of the music blogging world is heading to Austin, it's time for me to go for mine. I am very happy to announce that information leafblower dot com is putting on its first-ever concert featuring Robbers on High Street with The City Veins at the Rock and Roll Hotel on April 3rd. I've been a Robbers fan for a while now, especially after The Fatalist and Friends EP , so I'm super-stoked to be hosting them here in our fair city. The City Veins are an up-and-coming D.C. band that [...]

There are a great plethora of shows tonight. Usually this never happens on a Sunday, but this is a crazy world we live in, isn't it? In DC you don't want to miss Bowerbirds at the Black Cat playing with Deleted Scenes and Kitty Hawk. Also in DC The City Veins, Lights Resolve, Shanghai Thrills, and Fall Back Plan all play the Red and The Black . [...]

Finally it has happened. When I first popped in MGMT's super great fantastic album Oracular Spectacular, I had two thoughts. The first was, "Dang this is the bee's knees!" The second was, "There's gonna be some killer remixes of this." Sadly I waited and waited, checked the hype machine, checked my email, checked my mailbox, but nothing....until last night. I received an email last night containing the first remix of MGMT's Kids blended with DFA 1979. It's great. Check it. mp3: Peter Dragontail - KFA 1979 (Power Of The Dragon [...]
