The Clash's "Guns of Brixton" is probably one of the greatest rock songs ever written. Anyways, it is certainly one of the best rock tracks ever fused with another genre (considering it is maybe more reggae that rock). I love the way it just oozes defiance, rebellion and urban menace. The three covers I collected here are all pretty unique and really shine a light on different aspects of the source material. It's also just really interesting to see what the covering bands took from the original and what they discarded. Arcade Fire's live version pretty much strips the reggae [...]
The Clash - Junco Partner I was reading about how some research scientists working in Indonesia have rediscovered a species of monkeys long thought extinct. This story makes me happy. Maybe they may rise one day. Usurp humanity. Maybe not. In the meantime, here's a wicked Clash track to listen to. Peace. http://www.theclash.com/

Paloma and I upgraded to HD recently which is how I ended up on the Game Show Network the other night. As HD is a new experience, I find that I surf for shows to look at rather than watch . I didn't even know we had the Game Show Network, but when I saw The $25,000 Pyramid listed as I scrolled through the channel guide and couldn't help but be curious as to what a game show from the 1970s might look like in HD. I tried [...]

Jethro Fox. It gladdens our bitter and blackened hearts to hear yet more talented musicians coming from Liverpool keen to explore different musical avenues and happy to leave the jejune revivalists trapped in their own musical cul-de-sac, drowning in a well of dreary nostalgia. Of course everybody is influenced by something, but it's what you do with those influences that really matters. Jethro Fox take his which he lists as ranging from 60s sunshine-pop bands such as The Hollies [...]

Acá el resultado al que denominaron "I see dead People" (Live! I See Dead People Tumblr). ¿Recuerdas la gente que desaparecía de las fotos en Back to the Future, como si nunca hubieran existido? Esa sensación nos trae esta colección de fotos:

The Clash - Career Opportunities Back to work tomorrow. Holidays done. I hope you had some time off and did something relaxing and fun! In the meantime, the break is over and soon, it's time to go back to the grind. Peace http://www.theclash.com/
The Clash Bankrobber Label: CBS Records Released: 1980 Joe Strummer – lead vocals, rhythm guitar Mick Jones – lead guitar, vocals Paul Simonon – bass guitar, backing vocals Topper Headon – drums, percussion 1. Bankrobber 2. Rocker's Galore I have always loved this song. With the haunting vocals, and slowed down beat. In some ways I could relate to it. I never robbed a bank, but I understand doing what you have to do to survive, and the line "never hurt nobody." [...]

One of the more fascinating covers this year has been from upstart Louise And The Pins take on The Clash's ' Should I Stay or Should I Go ' which we heard a few months back, now the collective has surfaced a lovely visual via 'Songs From The Shed.' Enjoy the simplistic yet effective video above. Louise and the Pins - Should I Stay Or Should I Go (Clash Cover)

Wikipedia There's not a whole lot to recommend Burning London , the 1999 tribute album to The Clash . The lineup is mostly '90s-vintage acts who've not aged well and the performances are by and large unremarkable - certainly not a compilation worthy of one of the greatest rock bands ever. But there's one standout - to me, at least - courtesy of The Afghan Whigs , and not just because they were far and away a better band than most of their peers on the comp. [...]

The Clash 's Mike Jones and Paul Simonon reunited on stage at a performance with Primal Scream which was a benefit dedicated to victims of the Hillsborough disaster. In the tragedy more than 96 people were killed when a human crush occurred, due to failure of "police control." The two musicians - who also reunited for The Gorillaz's Plastic Beach - performed some Clash songs in the show including "Jail Guitar Doors," "Brand New Cadillac," and "Guns of Brixton." Reportedly twelve Clash songs in all were performed in [...]
"Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned." I sat uncomfortably in the confessional. Beyond the wood and iron door, night fell about the cathedral. No parishioners walked the pews. A lone janitor mopped the floors in silent circles. Candles burned in a silent stare of remorse as the crucified form of Jesus stared down at me. A mix of mercy and condemnation in his eyes. I'm not Catholic, but my transgression was so great I had no other choice. To save my music-loving soul, I needed confession. "Yes, my [...]

Filed under: News Mike Prior, Redferns The long-awaited Stone Roses reunion is still months away, but Friday night (Dec. 2), one-half of the legendary British band shared the stage for the first time in 16 years. Performing in their hometown of Manchester, England, at a benefit for former Clash guitarist Mick Jones ' Hillsborough Justice Campaign, singer Ian Brown and guitarist John Squire teamed up [...]
