Two giants of New Zealand pop will issue new albums this year. First up, the Bats, who follow 2005's wonderful At the National Grid with The Guilty Office . The disc, which was actually issued outside the U.S. in early 2008, is the band's seventh album. It's due June 23 on Hidden Agenda Records. Next up is The Clean. Mister Pop will be released by Merge Records on September 8. It's the band's first since 2001's Getaway. Fans of the [...]
The Clean is back! After eight years of silence, the band has announced the release of a new album . Mister Pop (Merge) will hit stores September 8th. For those who haven't yet made The Clean's acquiantance, I recommend getting to know them. The band basically founded New Zealand's punk scene in 1978 - while similar to the British and American movements, the Kiwi version has always been lighter, more carefree and melodic. About six years back, Merge collected The Clean's early material on the addictive Anthology . Recommended tracks include "Tally Ho" [...]
*Yo la Tengo, a band who need no introduction, have a new studio album entitled Popular Songs ready for a September 8th release. The Matablog has the first single, "Periodically Double or Triple," available for download . According to Matador, Popular Songs is one of the band's most diverse albums to date, and seeing as though "Periodically Double or Triple," sounds like something taken from an old compilation of French lounge music, I'm going to believe them. *While The Clean may necessitate a brief introduction, members of Pavement, Yo La Tengo, and Sonic [...]
The Clean - "In The Dream Life You Need A Rubber Soul" (MP3) This New Zealand punk band won't stop... and we're pretty goddamn grateful for that. The Clean have been on and off since 1978 and now they are back again with a new full-length on Merge Records titled Mister Pop (September 8th, 2009). The band is one of the founding members of the NZ punk scene and have paved the way & influenced artists such as Pacvement, Yo La Tengo and Camper Van Beethoven. [...]
You got to hand it to the folks over at Merge Records . When they decide to do something, such as having their own music festival , they don't half-ass it. So, we really shouldn't be surprised to learn that when it relates to Merge's latest task - reviving indie old timers, they look to be going all out. On September 8th, Merge will release two brand new studio albums from two of the genre's more influential, and older acts. First will be Polvo , which returned from a decade long hiatus last year. After [...]
Brace yourselves for Mister Pop. The LP will see daylight on 9/8. Visit The Clean on MySpace. MP3: The Clean - In The Dreamlife You Need A Rubber Soul

Rubber Soul Proof that you've made it overseas; when you put out a new single and not one member of the New Zealand music press knows about it. The Clean today released their brand new single via American music website Pitchfolk , a poppy wee number titled 'In The Dreamtime You Need A Rubber Soul'. It's the first single from the band's upcoming album on Merge Records . Titled Mister Pop, it might tell us something about the band's intentions, but we'll have to [...]

The Clean - "In The Dreamlife, You Need a Rubber Soul" From their new album for Merge , Mister Pop , out 9/8 (you remember, the one I said was "rumored" back in March ).

Fantastic news from Pitchfork - New Zealand's The Clean is back! The band is set to release its brand new album, Mister Pop , on September 8th via Merge Records. This is the band's first album of new material since 2001's excellent Getaway . Here's the first single from the album: The Clean , "In the Dreamlife You Need a Rubber Soul" .

New Zealand, anyone? [mp3] Surf City / Dickshakers Union

This post is all about the jangly, amateur sounds of shambolic Indie-Pop. It's a sound that would go on to heavily influence everyone from REM and The Smiths, the C86 movement, Pavement to Brit Pop and beyond. Not that they realised it at the time of course. This lot were just wanting to make a sound their own on often rather limited funds. $60 in one case. This year, we've already seen the scheduled lineups for all sorts of indie rock music festivals: Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Pitchfork. The blogosphere was abuzz, and why not? There are so many things to... Continue reading "Road Trip to Memphis: A Bunch of Good Bands to Play Gonerfest 2009" >

Beyonce has revealed she is a terrible housewife. The former Destiny's Child singer appeared as a guest the Late Show with David Letterman, where she admitted she didn't do any housework and was a terrible cook. Beyonce revealed: "When I'm home I am so lazy. I mean, I literally drop my shoes there. I can't cook. Anything to do with cleaning, cooking, I'm just really bad at it." The Single Ladies star, who married rap star Jay-Z last year, is about to embark on a sold-out seven-month world tour. Beyonce is also [...]

Forming in 1978, The Clean were an influential band from Dunedin, New Zealand. Brothers David Kilgour (guitar) and Hamish Kilgour (drums) joined forces with Peter Gutteridge (bass) and Doug Hood on vocals. This was one of the early incarnations of the band, the would go through a changing line-up until they settled on bassist Robert Scott after 1979 (Gutteridge would leave the group). The Clean soon created their own sound which was a mix of strange sounds, Ramones chords, and heavy organ sounds. The first Clean single ("Tally Ho!") was released on Flying Nun records in 1981. Teairra Mari ft. Nicki Minaj "Automatic" [ clean \ dirty ]: Here's a leak from two chicks that the Hip-Hop blogosphere is trying to F. TO be honest, this is kind of generic - homegirl sounds like Beyonce a bit too much, but the recipe for a club banger for the females is right there in the pudding.

There is no two ways around it, this album is great. I have been listening to Diamond District the most recently out of any other album/mixtape and I don't have to skip any tracks. After posting the first two singles by the DMV trio, "I Mean Business" and "Who I Be" , and letting the lyrics of Oddisee, X.O. and Y.U. sink in I was fiending for more and knew this album had the potential to be great. I was trying to describe the album to a friend as "mid-nineties New York rap but modern day in the DMV" [...]
