If The Clientele embarked on a summer surfing regimen here in Southern California and wrote an album around that experience then I imagine it would sound like Indiana's Triptides . "Shadows" is taken from the band's new Tropical Dreams EP, available over at Bandcamp via Beachtapes . Kudos to No Modest Bear for turning me onto these guys. [...]
This was posted on Pitchfork today and it's just too weird not to repost. It's not the greatest cover, but the integration of the Bukowski poem is really pretty brilliant. Titus Andronicus covers They Might Be Giants I really like the Undercover series as a whole actually, there are some really interesting entries. Because I feel like it, here are a couple of my favorites from last season's iteration: Patrick Stump covers The Wedding [...]

For those of you that were super worried that Alasdair Maclean of The Clientele was on his way out from writing music, well, think again. Alasdair has teamed up with Lupe Nunez-Fernandez of Pipas to form a new group titled Amor de Dias , or Love of Days, if you will. The group will be releasing their debut, Street of the Love of Days on May 17th via Merge Records . Listening to this first track, [...]

MP3: Amor de Días - "Bunhill Fields" Whispered magic. Lupe Núñez-Fernández sings in a charming, breathy tone that's both welcoming and slyly melancholic. The electronic beat that backs the acoustic guitar, cello, and brass instrumentation starts off simply enough before picking up the pace; it's like a gentle breeze that becomes a strong wind, carrying you through the Bunhill Fields. Amor de Días is Alasdair MacLean, frontman for The Clientele, and Lupe Núñez-Fernández of indie pop duo Pipas. Their debut album, Street of the Love of Days , is set for [...]

"Bunhill Fields" è il singolo che anticipa l'album. MP3 Amor de Días - Bunhill Fields
Fans of The Clientele know that the future of the group seems pretty ambiguous. Some will say that the band is done, others will say that the band just doesn't know what the future holds. Fans of The Clientele will also be happy to know that this uncertain future doesn't mean they have to be without their beloved Alasdair MacLean. He has a new project coming out in May on Merge Records. Joy! A collaboration recorded over the last three years with Lupe Núñez-Fernández of Pipas, the group is going by Amor de Días. The project is being [...]

Best of 2010 : EPs/Singles | Songs | Albums | Rawky Awards Since I've already made my feelings about rankings, best-ofs and lists in general clear, here are a few things you need to know about 2010: For those of us nerdy and foolhardy enough to keep up with Internet indie culture, there were more "relevant" albums to listen to than ever before. Thanks to a blogosphere in which any band with an MP3 can find someone to like them (and in which I caught a lot of shit [...]
In the five years or so I've been doing this, I can't remember a better year for songs. I actually spent most of Saturday ordering a top 100, went a little crazy and decided nobody needed me to rank seven hours of tracks. So here's a top 50. Every single one of these tracks is incredible, and yes, even Ke$ha. For the record, I allowed two songs per band in a few special cases because not including both Sally Seltmann jams would be a lie (though I did cut two Best Coast songs). Also, No. 51 is Lady Gaga ("Telephone") [...]

Entonces, [...]

Catwalk-Please Dont Break Me I've lived in a lot of different places, and so, every time I hear a band from one of those places, I sort of put their music in context of the city they live in. Catwalk sounds A LOT like one of my favorite bands ever, The Clientele , and the Clientele reminds me of another of my favorite bands Primal Scream , [...]

Yo yo, we've gotten not one, but two requests to fulfill your Halloween dreams. You won't have to be scared about this mix disappointing with bits of spooky, a-tonal, and straight-up darkly danceable tunes. So put on your leather bustier, or your lingerie and kitten ears or whatever other scantily clad outfit you find yourself in this spooky weekend (that includes you, boys) and pretend to be whatever you like as you listen to these tunes for Kelly and Morgan, who are both throwing Halloween parties this week. Enjoy. "Timber Timbre - Lay Down [...]

Terrific spin on paisley, psych and sunshine pop These leftovers from the sessions that produced 2009's Bonfires on the Heath include several memorable mélanges. The title track brings to mind the baroque sounds of the Left Banke, the paisley patterns of the Rain Parade and the sunshine pop of Curt Boettecher. The second track, "Jerry" is even more beguiling, feinting towards progrock with its opening, but quickly giving way to vocal harmonies reminiscent of the Robbs and Three O'Clock, with drifiting piano and a melodic bass displaced by [...]
