Internet buzzards have jumped onto live recordings of The XX from their recent intimate London shows and uploaded the tracks "Closer", "Friction", "Strangers" and our favourite "Leave" to Youtube Although the sounds are equivalent to a calculator recording a buzzsaw you can still make the the unmistakable vocals of Romy and Jamie XX plus all kinds of tropical infused steel drums and the like. Fans will appreciate the familiar layered harmonies and pulsed beats giving the yet-to-be-named-album a real chance to top the 2009 'XX' release. Tracklisting from the first show... fill in the [...]
If you've been following us on Twitter you've no doubt been seeing the plethora of tweets going out about new material that The xx played live last week at their three London shows. Hell....you might've even posted them on your own site and not given us a via, who knows? What started off as a trickle of videos from their first show turned into more of a steady stream of videos from their last two shows, mostly of one song in particular, as yet without a known title though speculatively [...]
I'm entirely convinced by Chic Gamine. Not a great start to a post is it? It's true though, there's something about them that has me hooked, but then, I also can't help but have moments of objectivity in which I listen and can't see how I did like them so much. And then I hear them once more, and I change my mind once again. It's a cycle and type of indecision that's actually a startling rarity for myself. As you might notice, our posting has diminished somewhat recently, and even before then it has always been focused on showcasing [...]
Deadmau5 gave the viewers of his live stream session a treat the other night by previewing these two tracks, and then within 24 hours both of them have popped-up on his SoundCloud. Fn Pig is the type of music I personally love to hear from Deadmau5, it has a progressive sound and build-up mixed with an up-tempo drop that works perfectly. Closer is a much more progressive track and actually a reworking of a previous release. Check out these two tracks below. It's been quite awhile since we've checked in with Australian duo Contrakids, but that doesn't mean these guys haven't been busy. They keep coming up with the synth-groove gems that are irresistible in some small way each time. With "Younger," it's when the beat kicks in almost two minutes through the song that makes me [...]

New leak off Red Eye's highly anticipated St. Fatrick's Day street album w/ J-Love. Red Eye and crew go for the jugular over a sinister Snowgoons if you aren't familiar with the golden glove wielding super-group , you have been served notice!!!

If you're down at SXSW, do me a favour and check out Chic Gamine. The Winnipeg, Manitoba supergroup has choir-like harmonies fronted by someone that sounds like what Feist used to. Soulful, fun and kinda sexy. Chic Gamine- Closer
Taking a break from touring has been great for Deadmau5, and it seems the time is being well-spent working hard in the studio — or hanging out in Swedish House Mafia's . Deadmau52s most recent releases have had ridiculous genres like " catstep " and " pigstep ," but today's work-in-progress, "Closer," is something the mau5 likes to call "StevenSpeilbergstep." The song starts off with deep synths that sound like the Deadmau5 of yesteryear that slowly build to include a bass beat about halfway through. All these recent previews have us speculating about an upcoming album — we'll be [...]

XXYYXX characterizes their latest release, "Closer," as "ghostwave." It's an apt description: this abstract, evocative track is a dreamscape, simple and seductive. It's more of a rough sketch than a fully realized vision - there isn't too much variation - but I can easily see this captivating me for more than ten consecutive minutes if the group decided to add in a few more variations (a spirited string quartet at the end would just sound perfect .) Little Dragon was a new name for me, but her voice ... not so new. That's probably because she is the featured vocal artist on SBTRKT's track "Wildfire". Reading a lot about her music now and days but haven't got around checking her album, but it's most definitely on my to-hear list! Another new artist is the mysterious " Close " who remixed Little Dragon's "Crystalfilm", he also has a debut album coming up, but maybe more on that later. Now it's time to enjoy this relaxed, deep track with such warm vocals by Little Dragon. Tweet When we headed to XOYO to see SBTRKT 's live show in October , we found ourselves really impressed with the support act, a certain Becoming Real . His set was a series of beeps and bleeps, mainly, and we loved it. I remember being struck by one tune in particular, with the digital beeps alongside the human touch of a female vocal, and I've stumbled across it on the internets. This is Closer : [...]
One of the few Prince proteges to have a hit song, Rosie Gaines rocked the British dance scene with this Hi-NRG track. "Closer Than Close" had a great lyrical hook and a get-up-and-dance beat. If they only made dance music like this today! The music that inspired Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana and The Killers will not be forgotten. And Peter Hook & The Light are making sure of that. Joy Division is living through Peter Hook and his new band, as they're playing all the same songs from Closer and Unknown Pleasures . For fans that didn't get a chance to see it live in the 80's, this tour will be their chance. Lights blinded, fans screamed and Peter Hook sneered as the heavy double bass of Joy Division filled [...]
As a founding member of legendary bands Joy Division and New Order, Peter Hook easily secured his place in music history. Now, 30 years after the death of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, Hook has taken to the road reviving the band's albums Unknown Pleasures and Closer in live form, a show which makes its way to North America this week Just before setting off, Rocker's Chris Adams got a chance to chat with Peter about his career, legacy, and what fans can expect from the upcoming string of [...]

Bassist and band founder Peter Hook has been entertaining Joy Division and New Order fans for most of his natural born life. And it doesn't look like he's stopping anytime soon. His new band, Peter Hook & The Light will be performing Joy Division's Closer and Unknown Pleasures at the Mezzanine in San Francisco this Saturday. While we here at B-Sides are excited to hear this resurrection of a post-punk classic, we're also a bit saddened for Hook. Apparently, he hasn't been [...]

Sometimes stuff slips under the radar, other times you just completely miss it, and then other times you listen to an act steadily for around 2 years, only to not ever give them any credit. Why? Honestly, I have little idea. Hailing from the West Midlands, Young Runaways have been buzzing around for a while, amongst several line up changes they've managed to release 2 EPs, an album and a host of singles. It would seem though from their Facebook page they're only comfortable commenting on their new EP, created and recorded with a slightly modified line up. [...]

GGGGGGGGGGGGGGEMMMMMMMMMMMM. If you don't like this you are strange. I'll throw in another gem that came out about two months ago which you may have heard already. Ekow - Closer (David May Extended Mix) (feat Snoop Dogg and Kylian Mash) Paffendorf - Be Cool (DJs From Mars Remix)
