Idiosyncratic; with distinctive and familiar hallmarks that make the duo of DivKid and their remix suite noteworthy & successful in their own right. The vehicle of Stusauce, Jamie Berry and SPLINTrd remixing DivKids' 'Pucker Up' is an example of a lovely record which contains the standard of an above than normal average merit. More compelling than visiting a bona fide, run down, evilly run independent bike store; or tolerating the true subculture of a second hand franchise whose only foresight remains stuck in the mindset of the past and to take advantage of the [...]

Tucked in-between the ads on Craigslist for "busty" photo models and pleas from recent Berklee grads looking to teach people the skills they spent all of their busking money on, I was surprised to find the gem that is The Cold Beat . After listening to this album, I'm pretty sure the 90s was the best (and most influential) decade ever. I mean, most good bands that I hear nowadays have a clear 90s-rock influence, and The Cold Beat is no exception. Get Safe is a brilliant mix of punk and 90s pop/rock that can get anyone [...]

So much music to catch up with: Here's a quick snapshot of what's spinning in the Ripple CD player. The Cold Beat - Get Safe Hailing from Allston, MA, The Cold Beat could be defined as a sleeves-rolled up, working class, roots-level indy rock with an arm full of punk tattoos. Having delved deeply into their recently released split 7", I eagerly anticipated Get Safe , the trio's first long player, and I [...]

mp3: The Cold Beat - "Snake Oil" Been blasting this Massachusetts outfit for the past couple of months, and The Cold Beat has crossed over from 'I'll give this a listen' to 'regular rotation' in a remarkable amount of time. If Get Up Kids or Promise Ring made you pound your steering wheel in oblivion and your voice cracked from post-punk pop witticisms, then The Cold Beat is for you. Whether it's the light rockabilly snarl on "Snake Oil" or the careful melodies on "Submerge" Cold Beat is awesome, awesome. "The [...]

Why on earth didn't I write about this way sooner? I dunno, but I know I've been listening to this split from the Massachusetts guys in The Cold Beat and Movers & Shakers . Both bands play gritty rock that just sounds great with the clicks, pops, and hiss than comes from playing this 73. Specifically, The Cold Beat's two songs on the split are a bit more punk/post-punk than what Movers & Shakers do, but retaining that common thread of Replacements-esque American rock. Maybe a little like Red Collar or something [...]

The Vinyl Stitches - Beautiful Mistake, Panther Sex b/w I Said Alright, Runaway Baby Coming from Death Pop Records, those fine purveyors of maximally fuzzed out garage trash comes this absolute gem of a 4-song 7". And without a doubt, this is the finest piece of underground garage fuzz that I've ever heard from that label. Absolutely soaked in the oil-stained concrete garage floors of the Stooges , 13th Floor Elevators , The Velvet Underground and any one else you want to throw into the mix, this is an absolute [...]

The Cold Beat are a fairly new band hailing from the Boston area who have been getting some spins in the ATH offices recently. Sine the band is currently unsigned and releasing material on their own, we know that most of you probably aren't familiar with the band. The trio have been living around the Boston area for years and just started The Cold Beat after stints in a slew of other bands. Now coming off the release of their debut EP Dumbwaiter , the guys bring more new self-released material with a split 73 with [...]
Wow! Putting Dumbwaiter on during a mundane Thursday afternoon at work was like a much needed shot in the arm. This debut release from Boston's The Cold Beat is full of 6 songs with that worn and weathered rock-n-roll aesthetic and just enough punk rock spirit seeping through. The melodies are catchy and the choruses are memorable. The vocals as strained but not pushed past their breaking point; it adds a bit of tension that keeps things interesting. This is raw and passionate music that makes me want to have a [...]
