Seven months ago, wedged into a sun-burnt and drunken festival crowd, I saw one of the first Taken By Trees shows. Admittedly, I already had her debut CD Open Fields crammed into my suitcase, purchased on a whim while getting off the metro a few days before. Some people reminisce with photographs, my nostalgia fuels playlists. Of course I was expecting to like the show; after all, she's that ex-Concrete girl right? I was not expecting to be so, well, taken. Amidst the louder acts of the day -- I had just had my [...]

Since this post was one of the more popular posts in Hype-History I decided to resucitate it and streeeeetch it out a bit further. Call it savagely beating a dead horse or what you will, but I call it a slap-dash attempt at part deux. 2007's Best Remixes Pt. 2 (16-25) 25. Cobra Dukes - Airtight (Aeroplane Remix) This one was an absolute stunner, for sure. While their Das Pop remix was unfortunately overshadowed by the others on that single (SebastiAn, Brodinski, [...]

An all female tracklist (to oppose the full-on man-fest that was last week), quite a good one as well. Seriously check out Duffy, she's amazing... I also think I've actually got the volume levels right for a change as well. Note the casual removal of the random mid hour newscast as well. Bonus. [...]

Many weeks have past since The Sunday Shuffle has made an appearance and i've been surprised at how much people enjoyed listening to these silly mixes. I've just been kind of busy with other chores to keep up with it on a weekly basis, but I will have something for all of you every other Sunday at least. We'll see though, since I haven't been keeping up with promises too well around here. I kind of have an idea for future installments though, as I wanted to possibly let our readers contribute their own random mix [...]

Music video for Peter, Bjorn & John's single "Young Folks" featuring Victoria Bergsman of The Concretes. The Concretes are a popular Swedish indie pop band, currently composed of seven members. Much of their music focuses on simple melodies embellished with heavy orchestration. The departure of lead vocalist and contributing composer Victoria Bergsman was announced on July 24, 2006. ... http://youtube.com/results?sea rch_query=Concretes http://www.wichita-recordings. com source | tags: Young Folks concretes victoria bergsman

Photo Cred: Marius Hansen There was a weird summer drizzle today and I was feeling romantic. So, I decided to cue up this beautiful soft, slow Rolling Stones cover: The Concretes - Miss You ( mp3 ). Perfect for winding down at the kitchen table by yourself and eating a pesto-and-tortelloni dinner. Oh yeah, if you need a soft, slow track with a little more beat check their new KY Kleerup Remix over at their social networking page .
Today's short story is from one of my favorite authors of short fiction and the man who inspired Robert Altman's Short Cuts , the brilliant Raymond Carver. Carver was one of the great writers of the 20th Century, a man who once described himself as, "hooked on writing short stories." Here is one of his better known and most highly regarded pieces, "A Small, Good Thing," with the full text and mp3s after the jump. Next week's short story is "The Lady with the Dog" by Anton Chekhov, whose death Carver himself immortalized in "The Errand." [...]

Probably old news for frequent blog readers, but fine Swedish label Labrador has now officially released Sambassadeur's new single as a free download. And once again, they show how music marketing should be these days! Oh, and the song is ace, btw.! Sambassadeur - Subtle Changes (MP3) Speaking of old news: it's sometimes hard to keep track of all the newest sounds that travel around [...]
Short Story Saturday is a new feature that seeks to combine my love for music with my almost as passionate love for short fiction. Each installment will include one of my favorite short stories, accompanied by a brief score of mp3s, sort of a soundtrack to the story. Last week, in my first try at it, I chose the classic Virginia Woolf story, "The Mark on the Wall," from which the band Modest Mouse derive their name. For this second Saturday enjoy one of my favorite J.D. Salinger stories, "A Perfect Day For Bananafish." Here's a brief excerpt, [...]

I was always curious as to what direction The Concretes would take with their sound after the sudden departure of lead singer Victoria Bergsman (who seems to have carried on with her own solo project called Taken By Trees ) last year. I'll be honest that her vocals were what initially drew me to the band in the first place, but it shouldn't be considered some sort of travesty that they decided to continue without her on the new album Hey Trouble . I've only sampled a [...]

"She puts eggs in her orange juice/Coffee in her tea/ Puts olives in her jelly/Says that's the way it's gonna be" For the past few weeks I've been working at a music supervision company in New York . I know what you're thinking: "Cool." But it's actually even cooler than you thought when you were just thinking that a second ago. Not only am I working in The Big [...]

Normally when I think of bands from Sweden, there's nothing but smiles and great memories that come out of it. What I'm saying is that the music that's come out of Sweden and hit my ears has always been sunny and delightful. So I've got a good impression of music from Sweden. Of course one thing I never seem to remember is the unfortunate case of The Concretes. As great and as "sunny" of a band as they are, they've had such a run of bad luck I feel really sorry for them instead of exceptionally happy. First they get [...]

You may have read about the ooooh-ahhhh coolness of the new iConcertCal plugin you can download for iTunes which will automatically cull all the upcoming concert dates for whatever city you type in, based on who is in your iTunes library. What I didn't know until yesterday is that it is now available for Windows users as well as Mac. I did actually find myself ooohing and ahhhing when I loaded it -- very cool & helpful and now all of us Windows Luddites can join in on the fun. Plus, it's good [...]
Tipik indie gitar gruplarının dışındaki 'tanımlanamayan' indie kıvamındaki akımları ve ilginç durumları inceleyeceğimiz !nteres Th!ng'de şimdilik konumuz: Orkestra!
